"My Apple Certified Retailer in northwest Arkansas told my dad that they were 100% out of all non-Air portables, both Macbooks and Macbook Pros. He also told us that both would be updated on Tuesday, since that's when their order for them is going out. Apparently they are dropping the white model Macbook and going with a black option and an aluminum option, as well as adding backlit keyboards and LED screens. MBPs are getting Penryn processors, the choice between 256 and 512 megabytes of VRAM, and the chicklet keyboard found on the air and the macbook. Of course, both new portables will have multi-touch trackpads."

My dream update, LOL. I just want an aluminum casing on the current MacBook!

so still santa rosa for the macbook?

I would love an aluminum macbook...hopefully we wouldn't have to pay a premium for it. It would make more sense paying for the aluminum than paying for black though:)

plus the air wouldn't fit many non pro users needs, the HD is too small, and i think the lack of an optical drive is a major deterrent from many people who may otherwise buy the air

optical drive is useless these days. What the Air needs is a bigger HDD, more USB ports and cheaper price even if it means adding a few grams to the weight.

Why did no one mention the possibility that both the MB and the MBP may be updated tomorrow?

Throw in a Macbook with multitouch and I am visiting the Apple Store tomorrow.

maybe apple will go hog wild and update every computer in the lineup. that would certainly make for some quality publicity.

i am going to be so pissed if this happens. i JUST ordered a blackbook last thurs from amazon and it's scheduled to arrive tuesday afternoon

so close to getting my first mac but so so far away :( :(

So the white MacBook would be gone and Black MacBook would take it's place? Is the Black MacBook material more recyclable than the White MacBooks? Is this the reason why?

I agree with you about everything, except the optical drive being useless. How? I know many people who use their optical drives on a daily basis. Just wondering why you think so.

and unless they drop off around 700 dollars off the MBA, it'll never work

I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation MBA is a bit cheaper. Maybe they need to recoup some development costs right now, but if they sell well and they can manufacture them in greater quantities, it would be nice if they dropped the price a couple hundred.

if the macbook got an update and the MBP did not, the MB could surpass the MBP in specs, and that's not going to happen. The high-end MB already uses the same processor (with the same chipset) as the low-end MBP. What else can they do with the macbook without making it seems as good or better than the MBP?

That would be awesome. I'd definitely buy a Blackbook at the Mid-range White MB pricing.

I've just checked the Swiss Apple Store...it's the MACBOOKS that are gonna be updated, NOT MBPs...

The MBs have a delivery time of 2-3 days, while the MBPs are all fixed in 24 hours...so here is to NEW MBs! And yep, the low-end 2.0 MB is gonna be phased out...no marketing need for it anymore...
