A dream update would be that the iMac, MacBook Pro and MacBook would all be updated tomorrow. :p
I can only dream.

All of the above theories could be true. In teh past couple of weeks in the Uk Apple has spent decent money on TV and posters on the Airbook. Even in places outside London. (Irony as I don't live in London, but live in and have been to lots of cummuting towns and cities that in geographically London).

Theory: shoppers love the Air, but run frightened from the pice (esp non $$ price). Fine, Air is a loss leadere. Its gets people in the store/websites/word of mouth, so tempt them with new laptops and desktops at a price most potential shoppers don't recoil at.

Hence, update everything at about the same time... Get huge media interest.. More switchers... more feedback.. More interest... More orders... (oh yeah, more p-ed off Apple buyers who boight 'too soon'.). Read the messages and if you buy before an update remember its still a brilliant product, so enjoy.

I'm waiting for an iMac update, but that's been an cashflow issue rather than a tech issue for the past year.

The new minis are rumored to launch on March 4. There will be two tiers:

The first tier will be the thickness of the Apple TV. It will incorporate the Santa Rosa chipset, X3100 graphics, 1gb ram, 1.8" 80gb hd, and superdrive standard. Price: $499.

The second tier will be a little beefier, and the case will be thicker as well. It will incorporate the lastest Penryn processors, but only only offer the 2.5ghz chip. It will have 2gb of ram minimum, and use a 128mb Geforce 9300 graphics card. Hd up to 250gb 5400rpm min, with options up to 500gb 7200rpm. It will also have a superdrive standard. Price: $849.

There. Do those specs suffice?

cool! I'll take one of the high-end ones! Thanks for the info! ;)

I was in the apple store yesterday evening, putting a glossy and matte screen side by side (for the 15" pro's). I was helped by a rep (non-genius... just an employee).

After the fact, I asked if the time capsules were going to be available... She said they ship this week.

I then asked her if the Macbook pros were gonig to be updated soon, as I didn't want to spend $2500 on a laptop that was going to be updated in 2 days. She said "I doubt it. The Macbooks would probably be updated before the macbook pros".

I thought nothing of it at first, but now ... Maybe it was a sign???

I wouldn't think anything of it. It's just speculation. The apple store employees aren't told anything as far a product releases.

MacBook specs in the mini. Thats all we want. SR, X3100 and up to 4GB ram.

No.Thats why it shows a weight of 10 lbs.

yes but if you'll notice the sub-class in the product heirarchy is mobile computing. plus the first set of specs under box usually refer to the shipping box and the second under "product" refers to what will actually be sitting on the shelf, ie the MBP box itself which with all the packing materials and manuals and power adapter could easily be 10 pounds, which others have already said.

Obviously since Macworld they have been trying hard to release a new product each Tuesday so I think they would not release several new products on the same day -- they would release the most important update (or the one that's ready to ship first) and release the next one a week later to keep the momentum going, which is more important than ever for Apple to get their stock back up.

So I think the chance of multiple releases tomorrow is slim to none.

Those whining about the potential lack of a MBP update fail to remember the weekly G5 PowerBook rumors.

Also, the MBA is not designed to be a primary computer but one to be used in conjuction with a desktop.

i don't understand the point of pressingpressingpressing for mbp updates if you're not prepared to deal with hardware failures, heating issues, driver bugs, etc, when they actually are released.

i'm sure apple has a good reason for waiting so long. chilllll people. after all, there is a reason why THEY are heading the company, not us.

From a personal point of view, I have never used mine. If I want games I download them from steam or whatever. All the TV shows I can stream in HD from abc.com, fox.com etc. Movies I don't watch on laptop when I have a 1080p TV.

If I want to watch movies on the go I can rip my DVDs to the HDD. Besides its less power draw on the battery than a DVD drive.

As far as installing stuff you can use Remote Disk.

While many US users don't use their optical drives as much as they used to let's not forget that many users in other countries do not have the kinds of high-speed, unlimited-data internet connections most US users enjoy.

That is, outside of the US many users, especially those in rural areas, either still have very slow and unreliable connections, or have to pay for internet access by the Mb or by the minute (which adds up VERY quickly), or both.

For these users optical drives are key to install software, share data between computers, watch movies or rip CDs, as well as do the things US users also still use their optical drives for: Burn CDs for your car, burn DVDs for your TV, etc.

In addition, cheap home networking equipment and cheap USB sticks, external hard drives, etc., are not available everywhere and can be expensive in other countries. So for many users exchanging data between machines and backing up data are still most easily done using an optical drive. After all, international sales account for a significant portion of Apple's revenue.

Don't think that is the target market.

At my local military base electronics store they have a sign up above the old macbooks and the macbook air saying New macbooks coming June 14th. and they also had the new model numbers but i can't remember them off the top of my head. So im doubting that tommarow (tuesday) is a Macbook update.

The MacBook needs an update its still effing white!
As for you Mbp complainers stuff you the MacBook needs this

Two totally different scenarios. Apple and oranges.

G5s were too hot to fit into a laptop. It was never going to happen. Full stop.

Penryn, a mobile processor. Apple has not missed a consumer Intel processor in the 'Core' range.

ummm...

Every one of those say refurbished.

oh sorry, my bad :( i must have got attracted to the bright red, and didnt notice refurbished.

does the bright red lettering on the iMac signify anything?

sorry again!

Update: More evidence from a Canadian reseller (prices in Candian dollars). Mid range MB403LL/A is described as MacBook (MACB) and sells for Candaian $1349.99, $100 cheaper than the current midrange MacBook.

I stopped by the Apple store in the Toronto Eaton Centre on my way home from school today. I was checking out the MBA and noticed that the other side of the table, where MacBooks are usually displayed, was empty. All of the information and prices were still there, but the machines themselves were gone.

I asked an employee if they were making room for new products. She laughed and said that they're just reimaging those MacBooks.

It's a pretty small display. There are usually only 3 MacBooks there, and there were still others scattered throughout the store. But is it usual practice to take all 3 computers out of a display for reimaging? I would think they'd have others to rotate in or something. It is Apple after all, they take a lot of pride in their displays. It got me thinking that maybe we'd see a MacBook update tomorrow instead of MBP. Then I saw this rumor. Then again, if they were replacing the MacBooks, they could easily have just waited for the new ones to be released before removing the old ones from the display.

Anyway, it probably doesn't mean anything, but I thought I'd throw another log into the speculation flame.

Managers
