The system volume will only be converted to APFS if you are booting from a SSD. However, you should have gotten new boot firmware installed during the High Sierra installation that will recognize APFS volumes for booting if you hadn't before. Note that running APFS on hard drives was discouraged on High Sierra. It is more usable on hard drives under Mojave but still isn't fully optimized for hard drives. With the updated firmware, you will want to disable the APFS Patch in the Mojave Patcher post installation if you upgrade.

Has anyone found an inexpensive USB 3.1 or 3.0 PCI-E card for a MacPro which is supported by the native drivers in Mojave? I assume if we identified which usb chip sets are supported, there must be some low-cost generic cards which should work without additional drivers.

I bought one in 2017 in eBay. Just search for "usb 3 adapter Mac Pro"

That image appears to be of an Inateck card like this one on amazon...

    https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Expr...35805&sr=8-6&keywords=Inateck+usb+3+pcie+card

Oddly that one seems to claim that it isn't compatible with Yosemite and above but I have seen some instances where 10.10 is blacklisted for other cards. Can you boot external USB drives with macOS on this card?

The inateck card works perfectly fine inside my cMP 2,1 running El Capitan.
Some mentioned problems with bluetooth connections after installing this card but I use a magic mouse and keyboard on that machine without any trouble.

I can also recommend: CalDigit FASTA-6GU3 Plus and Sonnet Allegro USB-C PCIe

I need some help with dosdude1's macOS Mojave Patcher. I successfully used this utility to install macOS 10.14.0 on my
MacBookPro8,1 (Late 2011) and it work great, until Apple release the 10.14.1 upgrade. So I restored from a backup and waited. Same thing happened when Apple release the 10.14.2 upgrade. So again I restored from a backup. This time I tried to follow the updated Mojave Patcher documentation and create an new Patched Installer using the macOS Mojave Patcher version 1.2.3 and the latest macOS Mojave Installer (10.14.2.2). The patched installer does not boot. I have been unable to find a copy of "Install macOS Mojave.app" in version 10.14.1, as directed by the Mojave Patcher document. So, I either need a copy of the 10.14.1 install app, or a way to fix the patched installer I created using the 10.14.2 install app.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

No, you can't. If you go for the CalDigit card I mentioned above you can boot from external esata drives.

That shouldn't be a problem. Do you have a spare drive? Try to do a clean mojave install on a separate drive and see if it works.

Did you check to force rebuild caches?
Otherwise I would try to install mojave again and re-apply the patches one more time.
