I just used Time Machine to restore the Skylight file to yesterday's copy. Didn't even need to restart to get back to playing Snood. 🙂

Yes, it looks like someone uploaded another Legacy Video patcher within the last 30 minutes. This one fixed the problem with Office 2011!! Thanks whoever did it so quickly. You guys are amazing!!

Also along to this, I found that 32bit apps I have won't work.

The patched SkyLight binary is missing the 32-bit code (since it was taken from Catalina). It does work great for 64-bit programs I agree.

Patched version:

gfxshared$ file SkyLight

Just updated Mojave Patcher to version 1.3.5, which includes a new patch to fix the weird dark grey Menu Bar and Finder Sidebar issue in Light Mode on machines with non-Metal video cards. For those of you that installed the older version, and found that 32-bit applications stopped launching, that issue has now been fixed. These changes have also been pushed via Patch Updater to current users.

FYI: If this is a component of the 'bluesky' patch suite, be aware that it breaks XQuartz and Macports emacs. May not be important to most users, but caused me some fun and merriment. Had to uninstall the bluesky patches (+1 for providing a built-in recovery path) and reinstall XQuartz to get functional again.

Also, for my $0.02 worth: It might be safest if the patch updater didn't offer the updated legacy video driver in the case where none is currently in use. Perhaps this is an artifact of my having originally had the legacy video patch before reinstalling Mojave to accommodate a GTX780 with metal support? I almost clicked through the update prompt before realizing it would undo the past 3+ hours of work.

It is not a part of BlueSky. The Legacy Video Card Patch will only be available via Patch Updater if the Legacy Video Card Patch is already installed.
 
@dosdude1 and other devs that have made it possible to upgrade "vintage" Macs -- I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!

My primary machine right now is a 2009 MBP and between memory and disk upgrades and the patcher, it is better than anything you can get new -- total cost of ownership was about 135

And while it was a relatively small thing to have the dark grey bars, this latest update makes my system perfect!

FWIW -- I also had a problem when trying to install where the system would hang if I clicked "restart now". Then if I powered it down using the button (the only way to get control again), it didn't recognize that the patch had been applied and asked me to repeat. Eventually, I just clicked "restart later". Then I restarted manually and everything was happy.

Thank you again! I love rescuing these old systems because they are better than new... I love being able to say that my MacBook is over 10 years old. Back when I was using windows laptops, I was lucky if the hardware would last 2 years!

Well, that's the issue I mentioned above: It was definitely installed to begin with, but I needed to reinstall Mojave over it to get proper support for the GTX780. I'm guessing that doesn't count as an "un-installation", so what can be done to let the patcher know it's not being used and not needed? If there's an official method for backing out patches, I can find no mention of it.

the performance issue is mostly resolved too after installing the new battery

i don't know if it is actually related but after installing the latest video patch i'm getting high GPU temperatures.(even while working with safari)

and BTW i also had the hanging(endless spinning of the rainbow ball or whatever you call it😂) after clicking "restart now" after installing the last video patch but it was resolved by a hard shutdown

I would say it is best for you to keep the expectations of your early 2008 machine quite low in terms of performance and temperatures.
I recently compared running Mojave on a MacBook5,1 and MacBookPro7,1. MacBookPro7,1 runs much, much cooler despite having a higher CPU clock frequency. I can see now that a user removable battery in MacBook5,1 came at a very high price of adding +15 degrees C to the idle CPU diode temperature even to the "weak" 2Ghz C2D.
I would expect your MacBookPro4,1 to run even hotter than my MacBook5,1.
 
Just installed the latest legacy video patch on a MBP 5,1 late 2008. It popped up when I booted it today.
My machine now won't boot. I get the grey screen with apple logo and the progress bar takes about 30 minutes to reach the end. At this point the machine just hangs.
I have a Time Machine backup but there's not enough disk space to recover using this.
How do I recover from here?
 
There's a new Security Update for macOS 10.14.6. I had no problems using the update, but I had to patch the system as usual. The new build is called 10.14.6 (18G1012).
