Has anybody been able to get Netflix to work on Safari? It works on the same beta on my MacBook Pro, but I get an unsupported browser error when loading a video page. I cleared the cache and there are no content blocks.
This is on a 5,1 with upgraded video and WiFI/BLE. No patches.
No it used to work in the Friendly Streaming app and the Electron player app but got Netflix to work in the Friendly Streaming app buy installing SilverLight on Mojave

as you asked I went back to 10.15.3 from the dosdude1 installer. zapped Pram (3 chimes), redid the scripts.
still having the same problem :(
im gonna try the args script one more time.
Did you run this in terminal as well I think I ran this before running the swupatch sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.libraryvalidation.plist DisableLibraryValidation -bool true

This is the one I used as I installed the update before jackluke came out with Catalinaswufix5 so maybe with that one you don't need the Asentienbot's terminal script I posted above

I just discovered dosdude1's Catalina update for unsupported Mac's. I now have Catalina on my Mac Pro 5.1, and it runs perfectly. I was unable to get the install to work from a bootable thumb drive, so I installed it directly to my SSD. Worked great. My question is now, am I able to get updates?

The only updates you can get is from the App Store or if you use Xcode or Safari Technology Preview the software update in system preferences is partially broken if you want beta updates you to use the swupatch in the terminal providing you have a beta profile installed if not you have to wait for a updated Catalina Patcher to download the point release updates then create a new Catalina Patcher to install

Hello jackluke do you think the core brightness framework from 10.15.4 Dev Beta 1 will work on bringing night shift back in the display settings

Thank you for the reply Timothy. My Mac is registered in the Beta program. I guess I'm smart enough to follow directions, because I installed Catalina successfully, but I don't know what I need to do in Terminal. What do I need to type in to get Beta updates? I really appreciate your help. I never thought I'd get Catalina on my 2012 Mac Pro.

run this script in your terminal then about when the update is about 10% or so downloaded close your terminal and open again and run this script but I also suggest installing easyres and brightness slider from the App Store they are free as the display settings in System Preferences is broke but fix able and also if you use Night Shift an app called Shifty as it is broke as well

this is the second patch make sure you unzip them

Successfully installed 10.15.3 on my 3,1.

Threw in a 2TB Samsung EVO 860 SSD on an OWC Accelsior PCIe card at the same time as the clean install, and everything seems to be humming along nicely so far.

Dosdude's work is greatly appreciated - have made a donation to say thanks :)

Hello jackluke do you think the core brightness framework from 10.15.4 Dev Beta 1 will work on bringing night shift back in the display settings

I've already tried, but the night shift tab in displays won't show, the dictionary key of night shift in com.apple.preference.displays is "displaysNightShiftTab"

I also tested this applescript:
Code:
tell application "System Preferences"
reveal anchor "displaysNightShiftTab" of pane id "com.apple.preference.displays"
end tell

But from 10.15.4 beta got an Alert with that applescript, while on any previous macOS it worked.

Anyway on 10.15.4 beta NightShift is correctly working with the button from Notification Center, assuming that CoreBrightness is pre-patched.

AirDrop Catalina pre-patched (only for Broadcom cards) to those interested you should post the output of these Catalina Terminal commands:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"

Meanwhile here are some Wifi kext that I've pre-patched (tested and working) to AirDrop on Catalina unsupported Mac, they are hyperlinks so just click the one for your machine to download:

AirDrop Catalina MacBook7,1 and MacBookPro6,2.zip

AirDrop Catalina patched MacBookAir2011 4,2.zip

MacBookPro8,3 AirDrop Catalina.zip

AirDrop fix Catalina MacBookAir4,1.zip

MacBookPro8,1 Airdrop Catalina.zip (This machine has two different board-id)

Macmini5,1 AirDrop Catalina.zip

MacBookPro8,2 AirDrop Catalina.zip

After downloaded, open a Catalina terminal and copy/paste:

sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

Then from Catalina Finder replace (do not merge) them inside your Catalina /System/Library/Extensions/

after from a Catalina terminal send these commands copy/paste one at once:

sudo chown -R 0:0 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo chmod -R 755 /S*/L*/E*/
sudo kextcache -i /

(the "kextcache" takes some minutes to complete)

At next reboot you should have AirDrop in Catalina Finder.

After you have a working AirDrop, I suggest to apply this additional fix to enable an extra AirDrop feature that apple removed from Catalina: "AirDrop Search for older Mac"

After a working AirDrop on Catalina, if you have also a Bluetooth 4.0 card (or BT4.0 usb dongle), to add Continuity (Handoff, hotspot, etc.) check this example: enable continuity from terminal
Can you teach me step by step how to use it on my Mac mini 5,1

Hopefully jackluke can help you with airdrop as far as dark mode I use an app called NightOwl https://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/NightOwl.shtml

i somehow replaced a file within electronplayer with a file out of my spotify mac app and now netflix is working perfectly and in 1080p :) i dont rlly remember what file i replaced, but i have the patched electronplayer uploaded to my icloud drive (a friend of mine needed the file as well and it works as well on his mbp) ..dont know if i get into trouble sharing a download link

Hoping someone can help, I updated my iMac 10,1 to 10.15.3, everything is working well except I have a massive movie library and all my tv's have Apple TV's on them....the problem is I cannot play any movies I purchased from iTunes...I get the old HDCP error that THe selected movie won't play on your display. This is new since I upgraded, but it is also effecting my Apple TV's where I cannot play a movie that is stored on my iMac that I purchased from iTunes. If I delete the movie file on my iMac and try and stream it, the video is blank but I get audio. The only way I can watch those movies is to use the Apple TV app on the Apple TV and stream them from my purchased movies. Googling for the last few days shows me nothing other than this was an issue years ago and had to do with external monitors...so my guess is it has something to do with how the built in display is being seen by Catalina.

For 10.15.4 beta users, through the Displays.prefpane fix method of @TimothyR734 that consists in replacing the entire "10154beta1 MonitorPanels.zip" in the Catalina /System/Library/MonitorPanels/ you'll get a working prefpane on .4beta≥2, but there is no way to enable the Night Shift tab options in Displays (only the Notification Center button will work).

As @TimothyR734 pointed earlier, after you applied the Night Shift patch (or a patched CoreBrightness.framework in the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ ) you can use this third party app that will work for Night Shift scheduling and other extra features: https://github.com/thompsonate/Shifty/releases

Hi all,

On my Mac Pro 5.1 the patch updates keeps asking to update the audio legacy patch, which as far as I know shouldn't have been installed in the first place. Could someone please tell me how to get rid of this particular patch? I installed Catalina "on this machine", using dosdude's patch after I booted from an external usb disk onto a ccd in bay 1.

Thanks

I have generally just been the quiet guy watching on from the sides as so many of you put in the hard yards to keep our unsupported Macs rocking with the latest betas of Catalina. I am so grateful for those with a deeper understanding of the guts of the operating system to keep us up to date with all the changes we need to make for our aged Macs to keep going.

I am replying in a way to post 8,868 above of @jackluke and saying about not being able to have NightShift on the Displays prefpane thingy. I have somehow got it going as you can see from the 2nd screen shot below and I am running the latest beta that has been proving troublesome with the blank Display prefpane.

I used the Mojave MonitorPanels file that @jackluke supplied in a previous post. I opened the file and copied the contents and then went to Catalina /System/Library/MonitorPanels and opened it , deleting its contents , before pasting the Mojave Monitorpanels file contents.

I did the same with the Mojave Monitor.framework file. Opened the file and copied it's contents and then opened /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MonitorPanel.framework , deleted its contents , before pasting the MojaveMonitor.framework file contents.

To be able to make it easier with copying and pasting these files into the guts of the system I have attached the CatalinaAutoMountWriteable.plist zip too. Place the CatalinaAutoMountWriteable file into /Library/LaunchDaemons and then reboot.

I am a very definite newbie when it comes to this forum and indeed to Macs but somehow or other I managed to get the NightShift prefpane working. Not sure if I did something else besides what I stated above but it is working nonetheless.

If I understand correctly, you removed the files before replacing them with the Mojave ones? I'll test this when I can but if it works, it would be interesting since I've had to do similar stuff before :)

That is exactly what I did and it seems to work perfectly. I surprised myself as I really am a dumbass when it comes to this kinda thing. Just been trying to apply the changes to system files that others have been using and came across this ' fix' by accident ;)

Well done, so theorically also using the Privateframework MonitorPanel.framework from 10.15.3 (or previous Catalina builds) should work, I write this simply because on Catalina is preferable to use 64 bit only unix exec, while the Mojave ones are 32 bit too.

Anyway you and @TimothyR734 deserve a mention for this Displays.prefpane 10.15.4beta fix.

I only just tested the method using the 1st 2 attachments from Page 352 post 8786 ( for the Mojave MonitorPanel files for S/L and S/L/PrivateFrameworks) and as it worked I didn't test with the equivalent for previous Catalina versions. It appears to work perfectly thus far with the Mojave.

Thank you for the thought of saying that I deserve a mention of sorts. Perhaps test out the method for yourself 1st and then put it out there :(
