Well, it's done updating.. It did do a weird thing. It wanted me to sign into iCloud after it booted up. I entered my password and it sat for a bit.. everything real stuttery. Then it said it's having trouble connecting to server. I clicked skip then. It then booted rest of way and OCLP came up asking if I wanted to install root patches. I clicked yes and it did that(wanting me to go into settings about a slew of things to be allowed(didn't do anything with those)) then asked to reboot so I did that. It rebooted and I signed in. All set! Everything so far seems to work. Also replaced the wifi-BT ribbon cable and BT came back. We'll see if it stays. It was fine for a bit then just yesterday disappeared again. We'll see. Anyway, thanks Devs! and

Yeah I came back to it a few minutes ago and noticed it had populated. I think I clicked the Sonoma update and it sat for a bit then started downloading but it's downloading 13gb! is it downloading the whole thing? Pretty sure I didn't click on Sequoia update...
Root patched machines will always download full size updates due to the fact macOS thinks the volume is "broken" and needs "fixing", since the seal has to be broken in order to patch files on disk. It reseals and restores the volume to unmodified state and that's why root patches get removed after every update. Completely normal.

OK, I kinda thought maybe something like that.. I've only done full USB installers when changing macOS on these. Thanks.

In case you didn't know, the Safari update changed my default search engine to google..

You're welcome! 🫡

Congrats for successfully installing the dot update and re-install the root patches. Cheers

- Failed sanity checks, cannot continue with patching!!!
- Please ensure that you do not have any updates pending

Is there an easy way to fix this in Opencore 2.4.0 without starting from scratch

First you need to disable automatic updates in Settings. Then you need to delete the update snapshot from disk either manually using disktutil or, I believe, there is an utility for doing this that was posted in the OCLP Discord, although I've never had to use it.

Assume that's in Mac prefs rather than OCLP settings (makes no difference). Where's the update snapshot? Couldn't see that utility on Discord. It's a shame, Open Core seemed to be fine last week. This makes it a bit useless cos you can't Post-Install Root Patch

I just wanted to post here, since no one else seems to have, that the 14.7.7 KDK is available, re-apply root patches to install it. I did earlier today, and everything is running smooth.

Did you download the KDK directly or via the OCLP app? When I open OCLP 2.4, it does not prompt to download updates.

Part of the reason I haven't wanted to use Sonoma, or Sequoia, is the Red menu bar issue with AMD GPUs. I recently found a fix for the issue by setting a desktop picture with a bright top, to keep the menu bar bright, which eliminates the red tint issue. Typically I liked using the dynamic wallpaper that was the default, but since I have to change usage habits for stability, I decided to go back to using custom wallpapers I download. Here is one I like, and have set for my Sonoma desktop. Looks like a nice picture / open window on the iMac's screen.

Nice

Google image search is a great way to find some good free wallpaper. The ones I got were either 4k, 5k, or 8k. One, or two were 1080p.
I usually use a pic I took up north back in 2013 I think on the west coast of mi. for main screen and one of the Linux Mint scenic backgrounds on my ASUS 24in display. On this 2012 I've just been using the default Sonoma one. I've just made fresh usb installers of OCLP/Sonoma and Sequoia on this 2012. It's been running well on the 14.7.8 OTA update. I've been thinking of wiping this 2012 again and going to Sequoia on it to see if it's any more stable than it was last time I tried it. Maybe in a few weeks..

OCLP 2.4.1 is released. installed, updated and re-patched, all seems good.
Yeah I replied on Mr. Macintosh last video wondering if he'd done it yet. I'm sure he knows about it. He's their moderator on the subreddit.. I'm kinda waiting for him to put out a video if it's worth doing and if there are any issues, etc.. It happed over an hour ago. I happened to have OCLP open on the 2012 and had been doing the usb installers and it popped up on me.

@LookingOut What happens when you use the GitHub utility to compare an old KDK with a current KDK?
Screenshot 2025-09-09 at 6.11.09 AM.png

... Maybe we can't rely on the compare for KDK binaries. I don't think Apple would release a new KDK if it didn't have any changes.

To your point perhaps yes. I took this as a possible reason that revised KDK files don’t always download when made available after a rebuild of the OpenCore-Patcher. Or are they just downloaded when doing a dot update if available?
