macOS Tahoe Finder Bug Underscores Apple's Slipping UI Polish

I've run in to all the issues here, and many others. Liquid Glass is a Solid Disaster. I upgraded one of my computers, but the other three won't ever see this mess.

Ok I'm going to say this about Tahoe - I'm a column view guy, and for every single iternation of macOS, I couldn't just have the column width adjust to the width of a file name - and now for some reason it works.

Now as for all the other issues on Tahoe.... some are gone, some remain. My M1 Max seems to be having some OS hanging and freezing that I have never seen before in my 20+ years as a mac user (maybe apart from when using Fusion drives!)

Same with the odd hanging/freezes. Maybe 1.5 seconds when nothing is operable.

QuickTime is another example, it feels like a relic from decades ago. Why hasn’t Apple replaced it with a modern, unified “Video Player” app? What person born after year 2000 knows what "Quicktime" is? There are still many legacy elements throughout macOS that make the system feel dated, especially when compared to the polish and cohesion of iPadOS.

Instead of fancy UI updates, they should've done a spring cleanup on old apps and UI paradigms.
Try selecting 50 files and then right click -> "Get info" (without pressing the option key). In Windows, you'll get the combined file size, on MacOS however...boy you're in for a surprise.

It's gonna take a generation to undo this crap. Apple needs a real UI champion to reign back to quality UI.

Liquid Glass has been touted as historic effort, aligning all platforms' UI for the first time, especially the work done on the new Vision Pro. I thought well, ok... but why? When Microsoft tried to make Windows 8 look like Xbox, it was a disaster. Where is the tiled UI now?
Another angle: Steve Jobs actually performed and likely scripted the demos himself. Tim gives us a nice smile under his rainbow and delegates the rest to others... who don't really do live demos anymore.
Yet another angle: If Liquid Glass is a priority that must ship half baked, but Apple Intelligence isn't, well...

You should go see a doctor about that. Sounds painful. However if you actually meant to type 'dock' and the keyboard misspelling bug didn't rephrase it then no. I don't have a pixelated dock.

Why would anyone leave these ugly ass scrollbars always visible? It's NOT the default LOL this is not Windows. People who leave these things visible actually deserve this.

That's weird, I don't even have the little "handles", I am able to resize by just "grabbing" the border of the cell and dragging it. To get the scroll bar to pop in, I need to move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the entire window, and it goes away the moment I move back into the window.

That was something I tried before posting. I tried skinny windows, wide windows, etc. Here's with skinny. Still no problem as far as I can see.

Edit: see a later comment. Show Path Bar in Finder must be turned on for it to show up. Without that on, the issue doesn't appear.

When I resize the bug appears when I expand it out past all the columns it 'fixes' itself. Obviously more broken than first thought. 🙄

I use column view in finder and it will just add up the totals in the right panel. But yeah the get info or trying to change permissions on multiple files is wild.

Only one goof in a very long and embarrassing list of GUI and UX blunders. The Liquid Glass kool-aid was spiked. Apple really needs to back off the nursery school interface stuff. Ooh, a glass metaphor! Give me a break.

So you believe only default settings need to work, and if any variation is used, it's OK is they don't work as designed? This, unfortunately, seems to be Apple belief too.

For me, I have never - not once - installed a major Apple update until several version in. And for Tahoe, I may be waiting until September!
