i'll never understand why people don't want to make the internet a more positive place. when was the last time you walked up to a stranger and said 'your shirt is god-awful, you're a moron for wearing it' or 'your website is ugly, what a monstrosity! i hate it, Person i've Never Met!!!'

i'm not saying the internet should be negativity free, i'm just saying barely anyone picks their battles. no one actually thinks 'does this REALLY affect my way of life, or am i just being a jackazz?'

negativity has a place and is an essential tool for change. but people seem to be so narcissistic on the internet, 'change' just amounts to 'do what i want the way i want it or i'm a very vocally unhappy person and everyone should know this.'

someone even mentioned this new redesign sacrifices function for form, and yet another mentioned jony ive. i have yet to notice how either of these are based in reality.

Where's the drama in that?

Don't like the new design:
  • page feels "heavy" instead of "light"
  • too much blue, bringing my attention to the not-so-important areas
  • the content of the posts should stand-out from the rest of page - this doesn't happen

Have a hard time focusing post to post.

Under the old forum, each post alternated shades of grey on background. Made skimming, reading easier. Break from one poster to the next was very clear visually.

...interestingly, the forum looks a lot like Tapatalk. Bright white, with blue break lines

And I thought Yosemite was ugly...

That Jony Idiot sickness has now spread to MacRumors...

That's SIR Jony Ive to you, one of the greatest industrial designer who has ever lived, a creator of cultural icons and one of the masters of form, function and exquisite beauty. So sorry for you that you just don't get it, it does require some intelligence; you should go back to Windoze ME and it's lovely interface. I HATED the old forums, it always kicked me out, kept asking for passwords, cumbersome, awkward, I rarely posted because it was so complicated, it was like something from 1997. About time. Good job.

Still having this same problem on Windows of the main forum page showing all forums not showing, see pic.

If I want to browse forums I need to go into new posts instead of being able to choose where I want to go.

What version of IE is this?

The style isn't the problem. Browsing it through the day is fine but when night falls. Even with relative normal room lighting, not crazy bright or sillily dim and even with my screen at 90cd^m2 it burns the backsides of my eyes.

This (change) has been painful and I feel so lost and I left for a few days hoping it was a bad dream and now I'm back. It just looks weird and things seem to big and spaced out weird now. I guess I'll have to get used to it but I've been barely checking the forums as of late because of this drastic change.

I get it. Redesigns scare me more than anything, since there's an emotional look/feel to it that can easily alienate people. That's why we ended up on the same design for 14 years. :)

Spending some time on it will help. We are making tweaks to make the transition easier. I think the notification system alone makes the experience much more compelling.

We're documenting changes here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macrumors-theme-change-log.1889170/

A few features are coming back over time. Right now we are still putting out fires.

We slightly darkened the background color to address brightness concerns

Either that made a big difference, or I guess I'm just getting used to the new look now. Cheers Arn and co - transitions such as these are always difficult. I still find that there's a bit too much scrolling to get to the bottom of a page of posts, but I guess this is something I'll get used to.

All in all, the positives of this re-design far outweigh the negatives :)

@arn I see that the post count number and line across the top of a post was changed to a darker blue. I think this looks much nicer than the green color used earlier today. :)

The color is based on what forum you are in. But if I have to explain that, then it's probably a bad sign :)

Ahh, I get it now. I hadn't realized that followed the color coordinated forums from the main forum page.

So the green I was noticing before was when I was in the Community Discussion forum.

That's a nice subtle visual aid I hadn't picked up on...

I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first, but soon after that I caught on that different forum sections had different colors.

I think the new forum looks great! I also like the Spy section where you can see a constantly updating stream of new posts as they come in. Like I need a reason to spend any more time on here instead of working, lol.

Good job, MacRumors!

I guess what I meant by "Home Page" is the main landing page where articles are posted when new -- the main www macrumors address (not the forums.") I think it would be very easy to miss here in the forums. Fine for continuation; and of course if you would like to do this in the forums, it's your choice. But, I was hoping the MR staff would create and manage the poll.
I agree, it would be easily missed.
Heh, I was more confident, if a forum staff member did it, as well. I don't have the time right now. Maybe later. Where would be a good place to put such a thread (I mean as a normal user, who don't has extra permissions). Also for a member there are only I think 12 choices in a poll, that can be set up.

Am I missing something or can we STILL not delete a post ourselves? I was going to consolidate three different posts in a row (since they don't self-consolidate anymore) so I didn't get a note from admin but I couldn't delete the 2nd and 3rd posts anyway.

PLEASE let us delete our own posts!

Much better design! I really don't understand those that liked the old version better. I always thought I was posting to some 1990's blog site with no thought to form. It felt like it was designed as an after thought and was using the same old forum template that everyone and their grandma used. Nice job MR. Glad to be back in 2000's.
