Can you post a screenshot or link to an example of what you're seeing?

My post here. #82

Its quoted as two but its only one. When I remove one the end quote of the first one the forum automatically puts it back, I whack it, it comes back. I gave up. Seen it a few other times but I managed to whack them out. I think its partly due to the forum saving drafts of other quotes/posts. When you come back in some post you were going to reply to is there. You delete it it messes up the post you're now replying to.

hope that helps?

Hmmm.... it may be the drafts bit that's getting you. Have you tried deleting drafts that linger in which you don't want anymore by using the button in the toolbar?

Neat touch, nesting over the link in any section slides up the content.

Took me a while to see the "Stop watching threads" and "Disable" popup at the bottom with the "Go" option on separate menus.. Is that just for easier viewing and control ? Why can't be be all on one menu ?

I find this new format hard to read. I think the main reason is that the old format had blocks of colored background, with borders that went all the way around them, that helped you separate posts from one another and from profile info, etc. The new format just has a huge undifferentiated field of white and the borders around the posts are not complete.

I think the lower contrast of having a colored background was easier on the eyes than the stark white. I think the oldder font was a bit better but I'm not sure about that. Also, the new format has a bunch of wasted white space on either side of the screen.

The new site looks "prettier" and more modern but for functionality I think it's a big step back.

Is there any way to change back to the old appearance, or something closer to it? Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I don't have the time to look through 45 pages.

Sorry, the old format is no longer available. If you choose the "Fluid" option at the very bottom of the page, the whole site will go wider than the current Fixed max width.

I think it takes a little getting used to, but I think many people have adjusted to the new format.

I don't believe that got transfered over, and is not a feature on Xenforo. Did you have things on your old photo album you wanted? We still have it somewhere.

Editing Posts Expiration Date-
I've just noticed something with the new software, there is a date where posts within a thread can no longer be edited. For a specific kind of post this is bad because, I have built some guides where I've gone back and although the thread is still active, I can no longer edit the first post of the thread that contains the guide. Example: Space Engineers Guide

Can I presume that if I had made this a wiki post, that it would remain editable forever, or would it too have an expiration date?

While the old MacRumors Guide area was still accessible the last time I checked, it can no longer be edited. And I understand the idea behind a wiki post, and I'll say that in many cases, this is a compilation that I have created and would prefer to keep control of what is posted, to keep it from becoming a possible mess, but I would consider going the wiki route if that is the only way to keep a post open for editing. Note under the old software, posts remained editable forever, as far as I can tell.

Any possibility of changing this feature with the new software?
Thanks!

@arn had said a while back that posts stop being editable after a year, on the old software as well. As you mentioned, if you have an OP you want to edit, you can enable wiki mode to make the changes.

I'll look at it. Maybe we will allow long term members to edit longer.

Poll questions are limited to 100 characters it seems, though this message does not tell one that exactly, one had to find what the message refers to.

Multi-quoting is limited to five comments.

@arn

Also my recently created thread did change fonts in the "middle" of the first post, while I was creating it.

It happened right after the inserted quotes. Is it a formatting issue copied from the NEW REPLY window I copied the last quotes from?

I will leave it for now as "evidence" and edit later.

Here is an image how it looks in the EDIT "window":

Maybe mentioned above, but who has time to review 45 pages?

There doesn't seem to be a visual clue on the forums "home page" as to which forums have new posts in them since my last visit.

Also, there does not seem to be an option any more of entering a thread either at the very first post or the first post since my last visit. Most seem to open at the latter, but this one opened at the former.

If you click the thread title it will take to to first unread since your last visit. If you click the date just below the title it will take you to the start of the thread.

Being taken to the first unread post is hit or miss, it's random and unreliable. I'm often taken to posts where my name appears in the list of people who 'liked' the post - evidence that I've clearly seen that post at least once. I think the 'unread' detection function needs adjustment.

Hmm... I have usually around 15-20 watched threads with new posts each morning, and I click the title to go to first unread on each one, and I can't remember even one time it did not work as expected.

Dunno why you would be seeing something different.

What I'm finding is that the 'unread posts' marker is based on time rather than on which posts we've actually visited. For example, last Sunday was the last time I clicked on 'Mark Forums Read'. Now, any time I click on a thread title for a thread that contains posts prior to Sunday, I'm taken to the first post in the thread that was posted after the date/time that I marked forums read. This means that I'm taken to, say, the middle of a thread that I've never visited - the 'first unread' function should have landed me on the OP, which is actually the first unread post because I've never visited the thread.
