Have you seen the reviews for taptalk lol, no thanks, the site and forums were working perfectly a while ago, no reason why they can’t again.

If this keeps happening, might be time to retire soon, iPhone, iPad batteries are getting hammered, the heat is another issue all together

I’m using Tapatalk right now. People like to gripe for no reason. Tapatalk + Lockdown to block the ads is the best experience for all three forums I use it on.

Way better for battery too…

Not a fan of it, I’d be more than happy to give up ad blockers If they could fix this site/forums 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡 not holding my breath for a fix 🤦‍♂️

My phone gets hot when browsing the forums, consistently, for about three days now. iPhone 12 iOS 14.7.1 with Adblock enabled.

Hope this helps.
Yep 😡 my 12 pro max is heating up like @Pearslikethefruit while on holiday in Greece😂 battery drain is terrible, feels like I’m using the OG iPhone back in 2007. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I use plenty of sites with ads but none of them turn my phone into a hand warmer except macrumors
Well Macrumors site isn’t doing it with Lockdown firewall running either. My phone is cool to the touch.

A response would be nice, a fix would be even better..🤦‍♂️
It’s obviously not affecting everyone. You’re running a beta. If it was my site, the first troubleshooting step I would require would be to go back to iOS 14 and if that fixed it, nothing to fix. There is no point in releasing a fix for a non-production environment.

The beta isn't the problem, was working fine on all the iOS 15 betas until recently, people are also having this problem on iOS 14. 🤦‍♂️😡

But you didn’t have the problem on beta 4?

It started happening 2 days before beta 5 got released, was fine until then.

What’s this firewall Trick you’re talking about?

I use that to block ads rather than AdGuard. When you open the app it has a firewall feature that tunnels traffic system-wide. I turn that on and it blocks the vast majority of ads everywhere.

I’m on IOS 14.

the issue isn’t consistent and comes and goes.

Im fairly sure it’s caused by the adverts, but they need to identify which adverts are causing the issues and prevent them from showing.

Haven’t been on this forum and site all day on my phone and battery life is amazing, I’ll be giving up Mac rumours soon if this isn’t fixed

Can we please fix these forums once and for all, even with a content blocker my phone is getting really warm and I’ve lost 3% in 5 minutes while being on here.

Get ads that don’t drain people devices, really over this crap 🤦‍♂️😡

Just lost 8% in the short time being on here and phone is very hot.

FIX THIS CRAP ALREADY 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I’ve tried a lot of things, even blocking the adds that help run this forum… but I can’t keep coming back on here the way it’s destroying my battery, health and heating up my phone. It’s madness.

Our ad network did look into it, and couldn't track it down, and I spent time looking into it and couldn't reproduce it. But if it is happening with an ad blocker then it's not the ads - which may help narrow it down.

That leaves only a few options:

- Xenforo itself. You may want to try browsing around the Xenforo forums, which is a stock install of Xenforo. https://xenforo.com/community/ - if it happens there, it's something related to Xenforo, and perhaps an interplay with some versions of iOS

- There aren't a lot of other options. We have a few add-ons installed, but nothing that's changed recently. I can look into any more scripts that might be causing it, but I don't think we have anything that would be a likely culprit.

- Do you have any other content blockers enabled on your iPhone? I'm not sure how possible it would be for something like that to trigger battery issues, but I know there was an issue with a desktop Safari extension which caused massive memory issues.

Anything more specific might help.

And I realize this is usually a BS thing to try. But if you could clear your mobile safari cache/history/saved data, it is possible that could help since it doesn't affect everyone.

Sounds like it is happening with ads blocked.

It's happening with both content blockers and without content blockers, every other website I visit is absolutely fine, this is the only site and forum that drains my battery like no tomorrow, phone gets red hot warm on here also.

Haven't used my iPhone on here today and battery life is excellent 6h45m usage with 47% battery left, the other day I had to charge my phone at 1pm in the afternoon after being on here, had 37% left for 2h50m usage.

It has to be the site and forum, since every other site I visit doesn't affect my battery and phone never heats up.

It's happening to people on iOS 14 and 15, people with content blockers and people without out, has to be the site and forum that's the issue. 🤷‍♂️

This started happening again, 2 days before iOS 15 beta 5 got released.

add blocker on, deleted, off... still running hot on my IP 12. lots of people in multiple forums specifically your website, is running hot phones and draining battery fast.

None of the websites I build, even with video running, create any heat or battery drain like this. I've seen 25% drop off my phone in 10 mins on here.

It saddens me that this feels like its not being taken seriously... what about everyone thats complaining on here? its not just me and LFC2020. ?!?!?!?!?

Can you try the steps I’ve described above?

- does it happen in xenforo
- can you clear Safari data / history

arn is like answering to posts left and right, the issue is being taken seriously.

That said, on my end I don't see what others are seeing. My phones does not get hot nor is battery depleted.

++++++++

@arn

Edit: My iPhone XS did not get hot, but just tried it on my iPhone 12 Pro. It did get hot, like really hot. As per ads, nothing that was interactive. Just regular run of the mill ads. I browsed like 3-4 minutes and battery did drop from 79% to 75% in that timeframe. As soon as I closed the Safari tab with MR-forums, the phone quickly chilled.

On my M1 MBP, I have non noticeable usages or memory demands. So not sure what is the root cause of the phone v laptop difference in heat and usage rate. Is there a way to toggle the forum to desktop mode on the mobile site?

It's the same site on either mobile or desktop.

Hmm. Can you try the same on https://xenforo.com/community/

I tried Xenforo and everything kept cool and no % drop. However, there is one obvious difference I did notice.

On Xenforo, the website always finished loading and there are no ads. On MR-forums, the forum (or sub-forum), or thread never finished loading per Safari (the blue loading bar was always at a 60-70% way). While the data was already presented and I could read and respond, Safari was still loading. I looked around the loaded page (post/forum) and the ads and data were loaded. That said, I am not sure what else Safari was loading from MR's servers. This second try dropped me 3% of battery in 3 minutes.

I do have Chrome installed on my XS and that is a difference between both phones. Let me download and install Chrome on my 12 Pro and see if the issue persists.

I turned off ads on your account. Can you tell me if it is still doing it without ads?

edit: and can you take a video of it not completely loading?
