Not sure that adds any clarity. The AdGuard extension I just tried only blocks one script -- our ad network, which all ad blockers block.
Hopefully you guys can find out what the problem is, miss using my iPhone & iPad on this great forum. 🥺

Appreciate you looking it.

Since you like using this forum (actively and passively) why not become a Contributor for $25 a year? I think that is money well spent and it also gets rid of the ads. I realize that the latter doesn't properly address your current concern and I am not suggesting it is something to be done in lieu of the former. I just think that regulars who appreciate the site would do well to help support the purpose and overall atmosphere here. Something to think about.

Or save yourself $25 and view the forum through Tapatalk or another forum viewing app. I don’t have ads showing up and have used Tapatalk for the entire 8.5 years I have contributed here. It lets you see the forum in a very basic way without all the distractions seen on the main website which for me is much better.

How does donating money to Mac Rumours ‘support the overall atmosphere here’? What does that mean?

Not a fan of tapatalk to be honest, prefer safari, I'll wait for a fix and only jump on here on my Mac until it's fixed.

You've been here for a while, almost 9 years, fair effort. 👌

Can you reproduce it here without ads?

seeing this now… site lagging to load in the progress bar, even though the site is fully loaded… hope this helps at all.

thanks @arn

Between July 24th and today my iPhone 12 Pro Max has not been heating up or chewing through the battery while browsing MacRumors. A mix of iOS 14.7 and 14.7.1 during that time period. Still a contributor, so no ads (though that was also the case back when my iPhone was heating up).

The devs are going to further profile the site this week and see if there are any obvious sources of the problem.

not sure this will help, but specifically this page, my phone went hot on. I’d been on the speculation page for 5 mins… didn’t get a heat reaction. Then after scrolling on this page, got hot pretty quick. Might help isolate anything ?!?

Experiencing the same, both on iPhone and Mac. No AD blockers here. I started noticing it when Safari got the Privacy Report feature (and tracking limits). 79 to 72% on my Mac just by browsing this thread...
MacRumors is (according to Safari) my number one website regarding number of trackers. Maybe Safari blocking this is the cause of the issue?

This is just mostly just blocking cookies and isn’t likely to have an effect on battery.

you say that.

I turned off hide IP address from trackers, and content blockers.
All good.

Turned content blockers back on.
Still all good.

turned hide IP address from trackers only back on… heated up!

this is on iPhone 12.

Anyone else test this out please

This setting an iOS 15 feature I presume?

Hey mate, I've stopped using this site/forum on my iPhone and iPad until it gets fixed, the heat and battery drain is brutal, can't be good for the phone and iPad, strange how content blockers aren't working anymore, I'd be more than happy to get rid of the content blocker if this issue can get fixed for good.

Guessing you're still experiencing the same issues?

So quick update.

- Devs profiled the pages, and didn't find anything unusual. Ads, of course, cause more battery drain, but do calm down between ad-loads. Nothing out-side of ads that is causing a big drain, at least during their testing. But it could be iOS specific.
- I have been testing out some things, including profiling in iOS safari. It's a bit tricky to test. There was a time when I did experience quick battery drain and a hotter phone (after downloading Firefox Focus, not sure if relevant), but I couldn't reproduce it -- and the only way to profile it as far as I can tell is to have the iPhone plugged into your Mac, where it won't be running on battery power.
- A couple of people have found that ad-free contributor status seems to avoid the issue -- but it's still early results and it's still a bit confusing, since it's also said that 3rd party ad blockers don't always work.
- Going to be testing it on and off ongoing to see if I can track it down any better, and am asking about some other possible fixes on the ad side.
- Contributor status may help. If it doesn't, I'd be happy to refund anyone you tries that route and isn't happy.

I had the issue prior to becoming Contributor, ever since no issues here, iPhone latest iOS 14 and using Safari

I'm noticing my fans revving up on my late 2015 27" iMac when using the forum, which didn't used to happen in the past (maybe as of a month or two ago). Safari also pops up a message about the website using a lot of energy. Processor usage is high - Safari seems to be locking up a core. I do use an ad-blocker and don't see ads on the site.

Of note, there have been M1 iMac users reporting "out of memory" errors, and while I don't think a common thread has been fully established, it seems like many of them are experiencing those errors and performance issues when using the Macrumors forum, as well.

CPU usage processes involved on my end are this website and Safari Web Content. Not seeing anything unusual on the RAM side of things, though. Running MacOS 11.5.1.

Hi,
My 2017 iMac with i7 7700K has suffered from this issue for a month or so. It makes the otherwise quiet fans spin up very quickly while I'm visiting MacRumors with CPU usage between 100-150%. Room temps during the summer are 22-24C. I also use AdGuard. This didn't happen before. I wouldn't mind paying the 25 usd a year for ad free access but I only login when posting which is about 300 times in 10 years so that doesn't really work for me...

I'm using latest Safari on latest Big Sur. Nothing untoward reported in Safari's console. Right now it's using 500mb of RAM and over 100gb of virtual memory ! Please lmk if there's anything else useful you'd like me to report.

My Mini gets quite hot just sitting idle on any random forum page here. I’m running KaBlock, but no issues on any other site.
