I still haven't been convinced to upgrade to a 3GS. It better make coffee or something.
same, the 3gs is/was a joke..

Virtually everything is customizable. Instead of being forced to do things one way, you literally can choose multiple methods of completing tasks. Another huge plus was the choice of two free amazingly good turn by turn apps. Like I said though its not for people who just want simplicity. It's for people who love to tinker etc. I also loved that I could immediately tether it to my laptop and PS3 at no extra cost. After using it, there's really no going back for me, but I reserve the right to be blown away by iPhone changes tomorrow. And widgets are an amazing thing. The iPhone needs them and they need them now.
Another huge plus was the ability to view Flash sites at my own choosing. No more going to websites and not being able to view a video. I CHOOSE which videos and content I get to see on the EVO, the EVO doesn't choose for me.
Last edit: the ability to swap out the stock keyboard for a Swype keyboard. Every device should add the option to use something like this. You can see a similar version of it on the iphone or Touch. I believe it's called Shapewriter, but obviously Apple doesn't allow you to use it in any other apps.
For me upgrading from the original iPhone it was amazing though!
besides flash welcome to 2007 wen jailbreaking the iphone happened
Tier'd Mobile Me service
Free for MobileMe - Find my iPod/iPad & use of iChat would be SWEET!! I have virtually no iChat friends and trial is over. Hard to swallow $129CAN/yr if I'm hardly going to use it and I REALLY would love to use iChat & learn more of the Mac or even to use TC remotely for backups while on internet.
It should be an incentive to get peop,e to buy an iPhone.
Shouldn't have to jailbreak a phone to get basic functionality.
i completely agree but thats apples fault for not giving what the iphone can already do. its capable of a lot more and a 10 second jailbreak gives it to you.

With as big a deal as these things are, I'm still surprised they aren't broadcasting live. Especially if they let the TV networks re-broadcast portions, it could really give them some huge play.
If the government can do it (and well: wh.gov), Google and Microsoft too, Apple seems behind-the-times. Might also free up some seats for REAL developers to attend instead of flooding the place with reporters and blogers.
Out of curiosity just how do you define "basic functionality" ?
To me basic functionality is ringing.
The speed difference is quite a bit more than noticable... and the video was a +. Furthermore, having a 3Gs can STILL benefit you in new ways because now it will have multi-tasking while the 3G won't. I upgraded and I loved it.
What is with this Pro Apple bias at MacRumors? How come you guys never report Microsoft or Google press conferences other than how they relate to Apple. All you guys ever talk about is Apple this... Apple that. There is an entire world outside of Apple.
Try reporting about the new TVs Samsung is putting on the market. Try reporting on the formulation changes to Arizona Diet Green Tea. It would be nice to see a story about gas prices in North Dakota.
Please ditch your Apple and technology bias and write a good story about the proper method of tagging cows before you take them to market.
iPhone OS 4 will work on the 3G. Get your facts straight. The 3GS was pointless.

Ditto. For me, these arguments are the same as those used to justify the purchase of beige pc boxes - tinkering, customization, blabla - most people need and want reliability and stability, not a hobbyist's toy...to each his own, I presume...
IMHO I thought the iPhone 3G was pointless (it was painfully slow with the same specs as the 2G just with 3g enabled) and the 3GS is miles faster (hardware wise). I thought the iPhone 3G should have been skipped and just have gone to the 3GS.
I feel sorry for all the folks that went from the 2G to the 3G iPhone when the 3GS was released.
I felt sorry for all the fools that waited in endless lines to grab a 3G. I walked right into the store the next day, traded money for phone and walked on out. But yeah, the 3G was not a good phone at all. Dropped calls PLUS a processor that lagged horribly when playing a game as simple as Solitaire. Ouch. For people that play a lot of games, I can understand completely why they'd want the faster speed of the 3GS. Try playing Plants vs Zombies on the 3G. Its awful. Much better on the 3GS. Phone functionality is just as awful on both though.
I just recently sold my iPhone 3GS (should change my signature) and went back to T-mobile with a Nexus one (IMHO the best phone I've ever used thus far, I never thought that it could trump the 3GS but it does for me!).
I find that the iPhone 4G will have similar functions and specs (such as the AMOLED display) that the Nexus one already has. Plus I LOVE the ability to put a 3rd party battery (I put a Seidio 3200 mAh battery) in the Nexus one and now I can use wireless tethering on 5 devices (mostly the iPad and my macbook pro) from my Nexus for a continuous 20+ hours! Oh and the androids bulit in turn by turn Navigation system is just awesome (my 2nd best feature next to the incredible long wifi tethering)!
One last thing I like to mention is that the T-mobile's 3G is ALOT faster than the ATT's 3G. I think its due to the HSPA from T-mobile.
