...SNIP...P.S.: I'm also interested in:
-New uses for the Bluetooth chip in the 2G Touch. Since it can do Bluetooth, WiFi and FM simultaneously, we'll probably see FM receiving capabilities and the ability to connect to Bluetooth headphones.
Also, it would be kickass if Apple released a GPS receiver (or allowed the use of third-party Bluetooth accessories such as a GPS receiver) for the Touch!

-The release of an online infrastructure (à la Xbox Live) so all games can share the same system for leaderboards, matchmaking, text/audio chat, etc...

I know it's wishful thinking but that'd be great!
Since when does the iPod Touch 2nd Gen have a Bluetooth radio?

CDMA ≠ GSM

It's not about "liking" each other. It's not about Verizon turning them down. Apple isn't going to expend energy making a phone that works on an entirely different technology.

I am aware that CDMA and GSM are completely different (I used to sell wireless phones). All I am saying is that it is my guess that Apple already has a CDMA version (that they probably developed along side the GSM version). I my opinion, it would be remiss for them not to do that. Of course, the beauty of this community is that no one really knows for sure. It is all one big guessing game.

It's a consumer expo, though. Not only will the chips probably not be ready, they wouldn't announce a pro product at MacWorld, anyway.

Good point about the consumer expo, but I figure if he can introduce the iPhone 3G at the WWDC then why not a Power Mac at MacWorld!? :) As for the chips, isn't Core i7 already out?

Ah man, 35 days to go...

selfishly, i'm hoping apple upgrades the ATV to be more for a media server with larger storage options (ie. 4 HD bays) or at least the ability to add extra HDs with more usb/fw/esata options.

i doubt it will happen, but hopefully.

and it will suck if they upgrade the mac pros b/c then i'll want one! :)

What is the typical time period that you can buy an iphone in and still be able to upgrade/return it after?

I've been thinking of getting an iphone for a bit, but wouldn't want to miss out on a 32gig one. Is there a 30 day trial period or the like in which I can return the phone and buy a new one if it comes out (i.e. if the iphone is introduced jan 9th, can I buy an iphone dec 9th and still be somewhat assured that I'd be able to return the 16gig one and get the 32gig one)?

Thanks

14 days handset exchange on O2 UK, not sure bout anywhere else.

Mixed blessings

Increased memory capacity could open the opportunity for voracious features like Spotlight and document storage while making lower capacity iPhones obsolete.

The Nehalem chips that will go in the Mac Pro are not out. The ones out are high-end desktop enthusiast chips, unfit for the Mac Pro.

I remember the days when PowerMac announcements, Photoshop bake-offs and rants about the Megahertz Myth were routine for January Macworld.

All the most likely Nvidia and ATI cards for the next Mac Pro have versions with a DisplayPort connector so that shouldn't be an issue. By all accounts the Xeon DP Nehalem platform will not be ready for January and we are more likely to see a March-May release.

I was about to post this. Word on the street is that Intel have a delay, possibly due to lower than expected yields.

Worth the wait though. i7 benchmarks slaughter even AmD's Shanghai.

The post below hit the nail right on the head for me. The features you mention are the ones I'm wishing that Apple would incorporate into ATV. Blu-Ray would be icing in the cake. Maybe Blu-Ray in ATV could be Apple's foray into the Blu-Ray world?

(I can't believe the current iPhone doesn't support Bluetooth from the Factory?! Even my current phone {SonyEricsson w600i}, supports it.)

I think it already can do 1080p, but there's no content available.

But never mind that. I agree with the 3.5" HDD change. While making it slightly bigger, it also would allow crazy storage (hello 1TB) and would reduce cost per GB.

I'm also for adding an optical drive and giving it an actual OS of some sort and not that POS thing on there now. Provide some remote control that can do more than an old-school Nintendo controller. Just make it semi-simple like a DVD remote but allow stuff like audio selection, subtitles, etc. Adding a DVD player would entice a LOT of people who want as few boxes as possible and aren't on the Blu-ray bandwagon yet. If they can work out the Blu-ray headache, add a BD option. Such a device with the footprint of a MacBook would be kickass.

Add Netflix streaming to such a unit and I may mess myself.

I too am holding out for a 32gb iPhone. While I could get a way with the 16gb, my music would take up almost all of it so I'm holding out. I'd like to get rid of my iPod by getting an iPhone. My contract with Sprint has expired and my Sanyo phone is holding up very well. I'm hoping I don't have to upgrade so I'm really hoping the 32 gig-er comes out soon.

If they don't come out with a 32GB iPhone, just do what I do, use playlists and smart playlists. I have 45GB of music plus 100GB of movies. No way that's all going to fit on my iPhone, so I make lists and pick stuff to sync to my iPhone. :)

Since when does the iPod Touch 2nd Gen have a Bluetooth radio?

It has a kind of crippled bluetooth module for the Nike+ feature. There was a little interest in bluetooth in the revision for obvious reasons, but it was soon discovered it's only really good for the Nike+ and nothing else.

There won't be any bluetooth feature announcement for the iPod Touch like that guy speculated about, unless Apple releases another revision which is unlikely for many reasons.

I was thinking the same thing. If the price of the 16gb drops and there is no 32gb, I'll probably pick one up. I'm really wanting one mainly for iCal and iTunes being that I only use my current cell phone for the phone part of it so I'm not in a major rush. But I know if I don't get one soon, I won't for quite some time....

Mmmm... What about...

:apple: iLife 09/iWork 09 for Mac AND iPhone.
:apple: iPhone Firmware 3.0 update with Copy&Paste and Push Notification
:apple: Snow Leopard Preview

Maybe some hardware updates. After MobileMe and iPhone 3G rollout issues, Apple refuses to make those same mistakes and will not roll out products that aren't ready for prime time.

Just my 2 Cents.

I'd been saving loads of money ready for the top 17" with CPU upgrade prior to the unibody update last October. Turned out that it didn't even release :(

I cannot play RA3 and Call of Duty 5 smoothly on my current MBP.

Please, Apple.

17" PLS!

My own 2 cents...

To tell ya the truth I don't care much about stuff like the iPhone and iPod.

What I do care about is the OS & Computers.

I DEMAND :D the following:

Mac Pro
Nehalem CPUs
DDR3 support with ECC and 4GB installed as the basic offering
The latest and greatest GPUs from nVidia and AMD (ATI)
Keep the god damn DVI connection please
Keep the cheese grater case and it's inner configuration
MATT cinema displays ALL with LED and iSight
Blue ray option
Basic mirror and strip Raid support on the MB

iMac
Quad C2D CPUs
The rest same as the Mac pro

Mac mini
The latest C2D CPU
nVidia 9400 GPU combo as on the macbook
MORE USB ports
DVD-RW as basic offering and Blue ray upgrade option

Snow Leopard
DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO!!!! I want to know and SEE how this thing moves.

Another None Update

What about it?

It was just updated in October.

Rather than raising the price of the 17" Intel MacBook Pro, extras cost items became standard, the hard disk size was increase to 320 GB, & a SSD option. To me this does not qualify as an update. Even if Apple would have increased the hard drive ize to the available 500 GB 2.5" hard drives it would still be a very monor change. Just something that could be done & is done in the ater market.

The non-update of the 17" model would mean 1 of 2 or more things. One could be that since the 17" doesn't meet the small & pretty size sales thus aren't large enough & the model will be dropped. This is like the 240 GB iPod Classic being dropped before it was made for the same reason, too big & supposedly too small sales. The next is what most of us are hoping for, that it was taking too long to get the 17" model out the door so the actual update won't happen until sometime in 2009. Or it could be some other reason that we did not see a real update of the Intel MacBook Pro.

I really am hoping for Blu-Ray to be launched across the desktop model lines.

and... even as an option for MBP.

yes we expect the desktop line to get refreshed, but it is getting embarrassing how long Apple is holding out because of "protecting" the itunes video store.

even more so because on so many blu-rays, they have built in mac support with digital copies. time for apple to return the love!!!

i could only HOPE!

Steve Jobs, as a new year present, please announce:

1. A better macbook screen (on par with the air + mbp) on the current price (firewire optional :p )

Yes, 1 item only, that's all I need.
