Geesh , listing to the clapping over iTunes (very underwhelming) is like listening to a Daily D that they do in the Apple store for retail employee's.

Are old DRM songs updated to the DRM versions for free?

Not historically. Since most DRM-free songs have been $1.29, there's a $.30 charge to update DRM songs to DRM-free. If the DRM-free stuff is priced the same as the DRM version, I'd hope they'll update for free?

But what are the chances the recording industry would go for that...? Not high.

This is the suckiest MWSF of all time - at least since I have been following it. What a bummer - no Silver Zink batteries, fixed batteries, no Mini update, no iPhone Nano et all...

Oh well - it looks like those who are targeting Apple will have a fair chance this year with this group of uninspiring announcements.

I do not know of a single Apple user I have talked with that thinks this was anything but a giant suck-fest. I am sure the record companies will all jack the pricing up on anything recent or even vintage audio catalogs to the top tier.
