eh I'm just hoping the anti-glare option get's carried over to the 15" MBP in another year or so when it's time for me to upgrade.

And the DRM iTunes is actually kinda cool, get to play some of my fav albums through the xBox now.

Really? How do you know since Apple hasn't released the cost to replace a battery? The MBA's battery is $129, including labor, which is the same price as a user-replaceable 15" MBP or 13" MB battery. I'm guessing the 17er's battery will be around the same and that you just want to whine and moan.

I just bought an aftermarket MBP battery for $60 shipped with much higher capacity than the original Apple battery. BS! This bites. I love all the apologists hitting the forums. DRM free music? In the lossy and highly compressed 128 and 256KBPS format? Please. This has soured me on Apple. I also did not have to take my notebook to Apple or send it in - so YES - it is a HUGE DEAL to have a built-in battery. What about recalls? Bad or damaged batteries? PLEASE!

D

I just wish they would announce document editing, as well as copy and paste for the iphone. That battery life on the 17" MBP is beyond appealing though, I must say. Bring it to the 15" though, the matte screen too. :D

the ones who are ticked off about the event are the ones who are always ticked off about the event. their expectations are too high and should just shut up.

i, however, am very pleased with today's keynote! go apple!
Sure, especially when almost none of the rumored facts come true. I expected at least another hardware upgrade, mainly Mac Mini or iMac. The 17 inch MacBook Pro was just a matter of time. I didn't think that they will announce the iPhone nano, since it was the only rumor I did not believe at all.

The only reason to upgrade iWork would be a much better export to Office. I'm getting heavy mark-up problems with this, that leaves me no other choice than checking it on my other notebook with Windows XP and Office.

Bad News

I have money to spend and nothing to spend it on! :(

I guess I will shove it back in my mattress before the dems catch a whiff of it.

Dear Mac Users,

So they are killing the Mini? That is effectively what they are doing by not updating it. My GF was holding off on getting a Mac because I told her the Mini was probably going to be updated. The existing Mini is horribly overpriced. 1.83 GHz, 1 GB, 80 GB hard drive for $600? You have to be kidding me, that's offensive.

So I guess it's plan B. Hackintosh, anyone? A few months ago I built myself a quad core 4 GB PC for less than the price of a new Mini, and it runs OSX just fine...

2% drop in share price by end of keynote, that says it all.
Still, it saves me a bunch of dollars that I would have spent on a mini update.

my guess is steve jobs is at home playing games and listening to music with an all new apple product in his hands.

Are you surprised? Come on, this is Apple.

iWork isn't fee based, just the web based part of the app. You can still buy it and use it the same as before - the main app is still an app, not a web app.

Which is exactly the reason why they added a matte option to the MBP.

man, pipe down....

How can you blame people for getting their expectations up when every single apple news and rumour site has been 100% certain on mac mini and imac updates for weeks?

It's not users who you should be directing your comments at but those who create the expectations.

Yes, what you say it partially true. You kinda prooved what the other guy was saying was true though.

People take rumor sites as truth. Rumor sites work with other rumor sites to get an idea of what's coming. If 1 or more is right or wrong, the rest all follow.

People need to stop taking rumor sites as fact and take them as they are. RUMORS!

same retarded mac minis

i guess its dead for sure now
i sold of my Mini ITX hardware to buy the mini and what disappointment

I just don't get why they presentend the new MBP 17" next to all the consumer software as is iLife and iWork, that goes well with a iMac or Macmini, or a plain Macbook , i fail to see the logic in this .

Maybe there will be a replacement for the Mac Pro with PRO software? Not sure, but I would never buy a macbook pro without being able to swap the battery. No way. But you are correct. Why bother releasing MBP and consumer software. Suppose that they had to release some sort of software and also find it interesting that everyone says GLOSSY is the way when I have been saying forever MATTE is more PRO and this is why iMACS are GLOSSY as they don't want you doing any PRO work in them.

Pure and simple, apple will never give the PRO an easy, cheaper alternative (SEE OSX86.org for solutions) and that is why I say the MINI will also NOT HAVE FIREWIRE if it has great graphics.

Now we get to look forward to doing in all over again in WWDC. After the way this went I can feel the disappointment starting to brew already. So when is the WWDC now so I know when I can expect another let down?

That doesn't make any sense... The only fee-based software they have is MobileMe and it's not a production work suite.

This makes plenty of sense. Apple is pushing the envelope for different things they can charge for - from $50 matte screen covers to guitar lessons from Sting (I can't believe they are really doing this..."So, where'd you learn to play that flute so well? iTunes").

the 17 inch is one heck of the machine it covers all the bases of everything we ever wanted, lets focus on that for the moment, superlight, superslim, massive 8 hour battery, matte option, no fugly black bezel but still unibody design>!>!>!!!!! what more can a pro want.

BUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUT

And this is so typical of apple the past few months, they shoot themselves in their one foot, they take two steps forward one back and leave a sour aftertaste. Here they have realeased a fab by all accounts product in the 17 macbook pro AND THEY VE DITCHED THE MINI?

I can't believe there was no mini, it WAS THE LOCK OF LOCKS in all rumor sites...I just can't believe it, what's going on here??????????

Sorry, but you're wrong. I always think that people's expectations are way too high, but this time around the announcements are simply less than any other year I can recall.

For anyone who thinks this wasn't disappointing, name me one year where this little was announced.
