Indeed. Or part of a large event later this month or in Feb. with new iMacs, minis, and the actual release of iLife09 (which looks like it ads some cool features)

I think it'll be the end of Jan for iMacs, with immediate availability. Watch the delivery times stretch on the Apple store over the next couple of weeks.

Maybe the Mac Mini and Pro have not been updated because they are waiting for Nehalem?

Also, hopefully in the spring/early summer Apple makes the new Matte Screen option and new battery part of the next revision for the Macbook Pro.

The Mac Pro release is certainly waiting for the Xeon 5500s to be released.

Note to all the new MBP buys....enjoy sending your entire computer in when the inevitable recall happens. First time use for this technology too. This should be fun.

overall, i'm quite excited for the new products today. however, i need to get my butt to work... everyone have a great day!

Looks like one to me.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the matte version.

I dunno, I'd consider these 2 lists to be very equivalent, wouldn't you?

2009:
iLife
iWork
Macbook Pro 17"

2008:
Time Capsule
iPhone Software
Apple TV Software
Macbook Air

not quite, MBA and time capsule were 2 brand new product lines. Nothing at this years keynote is new.

iWork 09 is £69 on the UK store . . .

What was the cost of 08? I know it was a lot less . . . Will we still be expected to pay even more for iwork.com???

:(

No, I wouldn't. The air was a brand new product, the 17 is an update to a third of a product line.

No - I do not nor does anyone else I know. The MBA was a completely new product and not a lame redesign. This was just plain terrible.

D

I love all the apologists hitting the forums. DRM free music? In the lossy and highly compressed 128 and 256KBPS format? Please. This has soured me on Apple.

Yes, I never understood the logic for buying a lossy, lower-quality non-physical song for the same price as a real CD that contains lossless songs. Hey, a sucker is born everyday...

I am impressed by the face recognition in iPhoto. Automagic metadata for family photograph organization is a killer app. I am however quite disappointed that 10.5 is a prerequisite as I have no plans to update the eMac (I am still not ready to give up Classic).

I am left with one question:

What music is priced at $.69 ? Is it everything with DRM that is over 6 years old?

I thought that was an ok keynote address. I'm still disappointed with built in battery in the macbook pro. Ugh....

Apple will not sell files in a Microsoft format (WAV) nor a format that won't play on most portable music players (AIFF).

Wav is NOT a "Microsoft" format. Just as AIFF is not an Apple-format (or rather, AIFF is more Apple, than Wav is MS). The only difference between the two (negating BWF - Broadcast Wave Format) is a matter of "little endian" vs. "big endian". Or put another way: One has the information about the file at the end, where the other has it at the beginning.

The thing is, that WAV is used everywere. And EVERYTHING can read it.
Just like AiFF-files. Some systems even registers an Aif as a wav. Because in the end, it doesn't matter. They're everywhere. It's easier to read a aif or wav than it is to decode an MP3.

At the very best, they could sell in Apple Lossless, but that also won't play on anything but iTunes and iPods/iPhones.
There are other cross-platform lossless formats. FLAC springs to mind.

Non-DRM'ed AAC files, on the other hand, play on a lot of things, from the PS3 to the Zune, AFAIK.
Yes, they will. They will register as MP4-files.

Really? I remember everyone around here saying "Lame, who's going to buy that?"

Funny how last year's "disaster" is suddenly an amazing example of how Apple used to be great.

Just double checking something, there was no mention today about Snow Leopard today, correct?

Generally disappointed

Apple went out with a whimper, unfortunately. Here are my reasons:
1. The 17" MPB is 6 months behind the other MB...so no big deal.

2. iWorks, really? with most of the world on MS software for the office and EVERYONE is planning the migration to web-based solutions in the future, a la, Google Docs, etc...again, iWorks, really?

3. I Life 09. Interesting but just barely.

4. The biggest ovations goes for video stabilization, and Tony Bennett, well, this is a major let down....except for Tony, of course.

5. No 32gb iphone. No iphone mini. No Mac mini.

6. And, oh, one last thing.... no NET BOOK? So they are going to give this market to Dell, HP and Sony?

7. And, oh, one more one last thing....no mention of 10.6? Really?

8. And one more, one last thing....The big buzz is Slingbox software for the Mac and iphone, ATT iphone tethering software and Skype's new beta for the Mac.....like I said,

Generally disappointed.

First, it's not always the same price, in many cases the file is cheaper.

Second (and the biggest reason for me), with CD you can't buy individual songs.
