Damn. I was about to replace my keyboard for one with Touch ID, but nope, not this time… yet.
Same here. I spent today figuring how I would re-distribute the keyboards among my 2 main and 2 occasional Macs after I replace my Magic Keyboard 2 with a TouchID with USB-C version. Very disappointed that I have to continue to wait for a new version.

You know...the biggest gripe is the charging port is still at the bottom of the mouse. 🤣
It is just silly at this point.
One of a few reasons I jumped over to the Logitech MX mouse. I always did like to stay in the Apple ecosystem, but at this point it's just a dumb and ANCIENT design.

It was a relief to see Apple pivot to support real "pro" priorities, and they should have accessories that live up to it.

I’ve been an Apple fan for as long as i remember. I’m so disappointed.

Steve Jobs would never have allowed this.
I'm not so sure. I'm also very disappointed by the lack of rollout consistency, especially on Mac where Lightning never was a relevant port to use on Mac products. But Jobs would probably be even more stubborn than Cook on stupid decisions like that.

Dear Tim,
This one is free. In order to sell your overstock of keyboards and mice, STOP selling them for $300.
ps. If can't change the price, retrofit the damn lighting to USB C.

You can easily retrofit your keyboard with an adapter. That you probably already have. It’s not a big deal and people will hate on everything Apple do, so no one really cares.

faux rage.

Literally the only thing I wanted. Too much to ask for I guess
Literally… me too. Legitimately the only thing I actually wanted from this event was an updated Magic Keyboard to replace my older (non-Apple) keyboard. I’ve been delaying that purchase of that new keyboard because I kept on saying to myself “Apple will definitely add USB-C to the Magic Keyboard the next time they update the iMacs.“

Well... I guess I’ll… do something, lol. I don’t understand Apple sometimes. 😂 I suppose I’ll take a look at the non-Apple options again. See what new is available since the last time I had a look.

With a large outlay for a new MacBook Pro, customers are more likely to buy USB C magic mice and magic keyboards at a later date particularly when they already have the Lightning ported models. Apple would have consulted a marketing Psychologist and have probably already completed a research and survey study. Maybe a wireless charging mouse is in development which will be another significant technological leap forward for Apple and the ITC industry. An IP rated mouse that could be charged on a MagSafe charger - who wouldn't want that over a USB C port?

I wonder if they are just trying to burn through a ton of stock laying around?

It can't possibly be this big of a deal to just put USB-C ports into these products

Exactly THIS. We're making mountains out of molehills about this topic. They have Lightning inventory. When it fades down to some threshold already calculated, USB-C replacements will be substituting in... so they can basically sell out of Lightning accessories at full margin without missing out a single sale when Lightning ones go out of stock.

The choice here is the simplest of inventory management decision-making: out with the old and THEN in with the new. Buyers being given a FREE keyboard and FREE mouse with this purchase will generally NOT care about this nearly as much as fans who follow every twist & turn. Most will just use what ships with this iMac. At some point, what ships with future iMacs will go USB-C, probably with little fanfare.

I hope you're right, but when John Ternus said the 24inch iMac is "the perfect size and resolution to replace both the 4k and 5k Intel-based models" it sure seemed to put the nail in the coffin for a new M3 27" iMac.

Instead they want us to go Mac Studio + Studio Display, or MacBook Pro + Studio Display. After all, why sell a 27" iMac for $2000, when you can sell the 5k screen alone for $1600?

Of course, "half full" ears could hear the Ternus comment as a confirmation that the iMac "bigger" will be >27" and >5K... like the rumored 30"-32" one, possibly going 6K to maintain "perfect" retina pixel doubling.

Logically, if 21.5 became 24", wouldn't it make some sense for 27" to also grow to about 30" or so?

So those with more hope than seeing nails in coffins can freshly grab onto a potential confirmation of an actual bigger iMac "bigger"... and one with more than 5K resolution.

Else, grab a hammer and help seal that coffin.

That offered though: my own guess as to WHY 27" was retired is because Apple could not get its ever-expanding margin out of that all-in-one with a "starting at..." under $2K anymore. So they kill it for a while and when it resurrects, they brand it PRO and price it much higher than the old price... more like the previous Apple iMac Pro pricing. That is easily spun by the PRO branding, PRO & MAX chip options, probably a bit bigger screen and thus a much more desirable margin. Those who want cheaper pricing get directed back to the 24" iMac "for consumers."

I suspect a lot of the longing for iMac 27" is in it's relative "bargain" vs. all other Mac options. THAT "bargain(?)" is what I think has been permanently discontinued. Modern Apple wants fatter margins, so it had to go to facilitate that in an otherwise popular Mac (probably at least somewhat popular because of that relative value).

Furthermore, Apple consumers voted with their wallets by so readily embracing an iMac 27" without the computer + keyboard + mouse for about as much as the traditional price of iMac 27". There's no way to revive iMac 27" at about the same price as ASD. So, when it IS resurrected, expect a much higher price. The days of a whole Mac all-in-one with a 27" 5K monitor are likely history now. Hmmmm, pass me that hammer. ;)

I've always hated the ski's. They need a very particular surface.

They should have smooth blobs like logitech. It's a terrible mouse.

While I'm complaining, the macbook airs and pros have janky feet. They should have retained the feet of the 12" retina macbook.
