Same here. I spent today figuring how I would re-distribute the keyboards among my 2 main and 2 occasional Macs after I replace my Magic Keyboard 2 with a TouchID with USB-C version. Very disappointed that I have to continue to wait for a new version.
Moved to Logitech MX keyboard and mouse a few years back and zero regrets. They are so much better. Make Apple ones look like garbage.

What happened to all of the lightning port fanatics who thought the world was ending when it was announced the iPhone 15 was switching to a USB-C? I was almost publicly flogged for even suggesting that USB-C was better than lightning.

The real iMac upgrade is next year, just like the M2 Pro and Max were stop gaps. Looks like Apple hardware engineers need a little bit more time to flesh things out. 27 inch iMac owners, give it a couple more years. Then again, I think Apple dropping support for all Intel Macs next summer.
I doubt Apple will ever take the iMac seriously again. The case is so thin and the guts so jammed in there with no active cooling that it can only support the lowest spec M3 chip. I think you can forget ever seeing another 27" model. Apple emphasized that this iMac is a great upgrade for current 21.5" and 27" iMac owners.

Sure the M3 is way faster than my Intel Core i5, but the slowest part of every computer system in the world is the human sitting in front of it. The current iMac screen shows 23% less information than my current 27" iMac does, thus slowing down what is already the productivity bottleneck.

I tried to do some spreadsheet work this past summer on a 13" M1 MBA. I couldn't display two tables on the screen at once at a readable font size so I was forced to keep switching from one space to another. It took several hours to do one hour's work.

If I was in the market today I'd be looking seriously at a Mac mini with two 4K displays. Once Apple completely cuts off support for Intel Macs that's probably the direction I'll be heading.

With phones, I get it. I still find the connector very irrelevant, but I get it. But with accessories? Who cares about the connector? It’s the last thing anyone thinks about.

Very surprised to see Lightning still on the keyboard and mouse. Looks like a new keyboard/mouse will be released with the upcoming larger iMac

Yeah it's funny how some people are so melodramatic. Rather pathetic when its an apparent travesty in this world when Apple don't update a port.

Just buy a different mouse and keyboard. 🤷🏾‍♂️

It’s weird because, usually, you can’t find this many whiners on the forum who even like the mouse and keyboard. So why are they wearing down their fingerprints over it?

Lightning accessories and 8GB base. This is a pretty bad look by now.
People need to stop buying them if they want anything to change. Why would Apple voluntarily leave additional profit on the table if they’re still selling well?

There’s no point grumbling and then buying it anyway. Same reason Netflix keeps upping prices: people aren’t canceling.

Not that unusual in the technology department. One of my clients just ordered a batch of these. 8GB RAM 256GB SSD for just shy of $2,000!!!!
And until people vote with their wallets, Apple will happily keep up this nonsense.

They mentioned it was the best selling all-in-one desktop PC and they couldn’t even bring updated accessories to it.

Just, wow.
“Best-selling” and probably with maximized profit given the 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM entry model. Also keeps customers buying Lightning accessories which bring in licensing revenue on each sale. Apple aren’t going to kill Lightning until the very last minute. They are scraping the last bits of ketchup out the bottle. The EU haven’t forced their hand on this one so they don’t really have any reason to change.

I would have upgraded if it were USB-C accessories. But I swore off buying anything else that uses lightening after picking up the 15.

I am sticking to my guns and sticking to my 2017 iMac for another gen it looks like. Apple is shooting themselves in the foot.

If they couldn’t do it they wouldn’t. As far as I know it applies only to new products, these are years old.

Exactly this, also it doesn't apply until October 2024. I do wonder if it applies to bundled hardware, for example if they bundle it with a new iMac starting October next year.

I am guessing Apple is trying to clear the stock of the Lightning accessories. And then they will release new ones with USB-C (somewhere next year)
