I've had magic mouse since early December, the batteries are down to 36%, using 4 hours a day.

Apple must have been on acid, their battery life claim is complete fantasy!

I've had my iMac and Magic Mouse for 2 weeks. Using the original batteries, I've already gotten a low battery warning tonight! I've been using the computer a lot these past two weeks, though...but still, this is a lot less time than I'd expected!

I do love the Magic Mouse, though.

Connection types

OK, just to let you know, all wireless apple products use built in bluetooth technology. They do not need any sort of receiver to use the devices. So in the long run they do save a usb port! Plus they don't look as cluttered!

wasn't talking about the inferior bluetooth technology, but about the better technology, which is not bluetooth and still needs a receiver. It normally just says that it is wireless, but doesn't mention bluetooth. Not to mention you get the lagg with wireless.

after 4 weeks of use, the magic mouse is at 15%, and the keyboard is at 100%
Im disappointed at the mouse, I was expecting more time, not the whole 4 months Apple claimed but at least 65%-70% of it which would be like 2 months and a half or to 3, and not one month (barely)

I'm not trying to defend the magic mouse's battery life by any stretch, but I have a lot of devices (remotes, wii controllers, gamecube controllers, mice, and a couple other things). I bought a rayovac hybrid AA charger on eBay and I have lots of rechargeable AA batteries in all my devices. There are always charged AA batteries "on deck" in the charger. So no matter what dies, it doesn't cost me any money to get new batteries, i'm not littering all the time, and i don't need to scramble to find them around the house! Just some advice :D.

Again, not defending the magic mouse... just a general solution for people with lots of products that require batteries.

Original set / December 4th - December 17th
First set / December 17th - 3rd January
Second set / January 3rd - January 5th now at 87% already

I work from home so, 8-12 hours of mouse fiddling is involved.

I don't like where this is going.

MM doesn't drain my keyboard (touch wood) but man I think it needs rechargeable batteries.

This is not a green product.

Magic Mouse battery life is a joke. I get three weeks. That's it. Maybe a few extra days. The other thing I really dislike is setting it up again after a battery change. This was never an issue with the old Mighty Mouse, which in all other ways was an inferior product.

Change one battery at a time

I got my iMac 1st Dec 2009 complete with Magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. I replaced the original batteries after a month of fairly heavy use and never turned it off.

Yesterday, (19 Jan 2010) my second lot of batteries no longer made the mouse turn on after only 19 days of use. The strange thing is I checked that same day and the charge was still at 60%. I had been turning the mouse off overnight while the computer was also off to try and save the batteries. When trying to turn the mouse on this morning it wouldn't, resulting in me having to change the batteries for a third time in less than 2 months.

Here's what is silly! After knowing that the previous batteries still had 60% life left in them, yet failed to power up the mouse, I put in one old one and one new one (both of the same brand). What do ya know, it turns on again! Now with a charge of 85% with an old and a new battery in it.

So my advice to anyone who has similar problems is change one battery at a time, otherwise you could be throwing out good batteries with plenty of life left in them.

Hopefully these last past 60% unlike the last lot, will keep you posted.

crossing my fingers for a wired magic mouse *and wishes very hard*

Fixed. And... now, i can say. Keep dreaming. I dont think apple will ever bring out a wired MM.

My mouses batt life is really good. had it about a month or so, I never turn it off. And only gone through 2 sets of 2 AA batteries. Id go through 3 or more with the might mouse. Well done apple ^_^:apple:

Two sets of batteries in one month, and you think that's worth of a "well done Apple"? Two sets of batteries in one month is totally ridiculous.

Went through a set of batteries in a month.

5 days into set #2 and I am at 88%.

+1

I got my iMac and Magic Mouse just over a month ago (23rd Dec). We have quite a few computers in the house so its had pretty light usage. Had to replace the batteries today - 39 days for light use isn't very impressive. I'd be interested to know if this is factored into the environmental assessment of Apple's products. Its a very unimpressive performance IMO. :(

I'm using USB rechargeable ones this time to see how they work out.

ordered eneloops today. i've had the mouse since roughly the end of december. i'm at 18% now. hoping it'll last until my order gets here. proportionally, it should. i wonder if added functions from BBT shorten its life?

Magic Mouse Battery life

I've had my Magic mouse for just under a month. I just replaced the batteries that it came with, yesterday. I used what I thought were decent rechargeables. I do use the mouse a lot. Later this evening, I received a notice to replace the batteries...Just a little while ago, I received notice to replace THOSE batteries.
I seem to have the same problem with batteries I put in my camera. Do I just have a really sucky charger? Using Energizer batteries. Thought they were good.

After going through 3 sets of batteries in less than 2 months I've reverted to rechargeables which I thought would only last a couple of weeks, but nearly 3 weeks into them and they are still at 50%. Here's hoping they don't conk out prematurely like the other ones did while still indicating a 50% charge!
For anyone concerned I'm using Duracell Rechargeables.

all wireless devices should be like ps3 controllers in that they can be used wireless or plugged in, whatever you like

That would really be brilliant! But of course, the extra port and charging circuit increases the cost to the manufacturer. And that's why it's not happening.

Magic Mouse Battery Life

Ditto. I've also had my iMac for ~2 wks- keyboard is at 100% and mouse is at 60%. I've inquired about this issue at 2 "Genius Bars" in 2 different Apple stores here in NYC, and "they weren't aware of the issue." But 1 "Genius" told me that he personally uses re-chargeable batteries and changes his batteries every 2 weeks. Hmmmm. Not aware of the issue ?????? I've also talked to 2 Apple "Geniuses" on the phone, and they weren't aware of the issue either. I think that they are just playing stupid. Anyways, they recently issued a firmware update to improve the battery life of the 2009 keyboard. But, the battery life of the 2009 keyboard is not the issue. It is the battery life of the Magic Mouse. I have not noticed a difference in the battery life of my mouse since downloading that update over the past week. My mouse batteries are still draining!!!

Yes, I have noticed the same results with the update of firmware for the keyboard. It is not draining even 1% with a days work. We at least know that the problem with the mouse is most likely with the firmware. When will apple realize that and issue an update???????

Dock

They should have a dock in which you can put your magic mouse in and charge it! I myself bought one today and have yet to test my battery.

I've had my Magic Mouse since Thursday. Today is sunday, and the batteries are down to 88%. That's not a lot of battery life, altough i use my computer WAY more than most people :p But i really don't mind changing the batteries. I have a couple of rechargable AA batteries and a charger. Spending 1 minute every like 2-4 weeks changing batteries isn't bad, at least i don't mind it.

EDIT: I also have had the Apple Wireless Keyboard (Alluminum) since thursday. The keyboard still says 100%.

That sounds similar to me, I replaced the batteries in mine on Thursday (or Friday, can't remember). And they're now showing 82%.. they're Duracell batteries so they're not a cheap brand.

I may have to invest in rechargeable batteries. :p
