Why? Cost control is an important part of maintaining margins. It's easy to add a dollar her, another couple there and there, winding up reducing margins significantly.
This is like saying why produce the products in metal, plastic is way cheaper and just up the prizes cause people will keep buying. Why use different colours if we could only use one. If you really wanted to make great profits you apply standards and keep products as simple as possible without many variants.

In other words why did they even bother making different colours. You do understand they made different colours available cause they got **** over them during reviews about the un-Apple like design thinking.

I think it is white to match the white charging bricks that Apple uses.
Of course, I totally get that, but isn't that still kind of vague design? I mean white brick & connector chasis, cable & opposite connector other color? 🤷🏼‍♂️

🤷🏼‍♂️
Would you like to see Apple offer color specific charging bricks as well? Or would you just prefer to see the cable all one color, so it is only the charging brick that is a separate color?

I kind of half wonder if Apple isn't making the USB-C end white, so if you use a third party charging brick, the color might not match exactly. But honestly, I feel like you would have to be pretty OCD to be bothered by that.

Sure, complete nitpick.
If I could choose, I'd go same color for both charger and cable.

love how people are automatically obsessed with the newest color always lmao... "oh my favorite color changes every year" LOLOLOL C:

Nah I always hated space grey. It never looked right with me and space grey is more prone to visible wear and tear. Whenever I saw space grey I thought "why don't they just make it fully black then?" Well now they have.

MATCH THEM BY PRODUCING BLUE CHARGERS! It’s a stupid design move, which is easily resolved. Why would you bother to make them in the first place.
but why? The white USB-C end matches the cable and the charger just as well if not even better
plus a blue apple charger would look weird

MagSafe is not a data port so Apple would not have used that as their only port.
I know that. I was talking about this MagSafe:

That would be anything but comfortable and practical, and you lose the benefit of being able to hang your phone by the cable if you drop it

£49 for a 6ft length of cable with a plug on each end.
I feel like I've just stumbled onto a hifi forum.
Remember this cable will support the MBP 16” with its 140 watt charger. Cheap cables usually max out at 40 watts.

Was never a fan of it either, it's always seemed like a lame version of black to me. The actually black trackpad looks great.

As for the various other colors I had a (rose) gold phase with iPhones/iPads/watches and it got tiring quickly

I thought usb c was perfect, I know I’m in the minority on this but I prefer the usb c port over the MagSafe I can charge my iPad with it, my switch controller or any usb c device, MagSafe is just for the MacBook
This! I never even liked MagSafe because of how easy it was to disconnect when sitting e.g. on a sofa or with the laptop on your knees (the argument that it is supposed to prevent the computer from being dragged from the table with the cable never convinced me as nothing remotely similar has ever happened to me...). So it was pretty ironic to discover that after over six years with my previous MBP, my new laptop would have MagSafe again... I do not use it anyway, as now with one USB-C cable I can charge my MBP, my iPad and my phone (I do not have an iPhone), whereas if we were to stick to what Apple proposes by default, we would have to use three different cables for three devices... Of course it is nice to have a choice, as someone here correctly pointed out, but tbh I would prefer to have some other ports (USB-A, yeah, sue me!) instead of a pretty useless MagSafe with only one application.

MagSafe is in addition to USB-C charging. MagSafe also fast charges to 50% in 30 minutes if you order the higher capacity brick.

No, that is a question of level of product quality; a seperaet engineering and design choice.

Why use different colours if we could only use one. If you really wanted to make great profits you apply standards and keep products as simple as possible without many variants.

Exactly, that is why companies have standard designs. It is about not letting small costs result in a larger one that impacts profits.

In other words why did they even bother making different colours. You do understand they made different colours available cause they got **** over them during reviews about the un-Apple like design thinking.

Apple saw a chance to sell cables to people who wanted them. Notice they don't include them in the box; those are one standard cable.

Personally, I think it's much do about nothing.

Wonder if the EU will allow this cable 🙄

They will allow it; since the MBA can already be charged through USB-C. They don't have any issue with products that have additional ports that can be charged through. They only have beef against products that CANNOT be charged through a standardized port.

Nice that they finally came out with matching cables, but can only be purchased separately? And what’s with the white USB-C connector?
Ha, well spotted! I suppose the white USB-C connector matches the white charger you will plug it into.....
