biggest thing with the ports on the MBA is that they are too close to each other. even if you are using/needing just one single USB-A adapter, the other port becomes unusable as the other USB-C connector won't fit anymore.
putting both ports on the opposite sides would have solved this (and other stuff)
I feel like we will be using USB-A adaptors for the next 20 years. Tim and Timmer.

Got a question about this USB-C -to- MagSafe connector cable and aftermarket implications:

1: Is this specific adaptor-cable compatible with Apple's 67-watt fast charging USB-C plug-in jack for the M2 MacBook Pro and coming M2 MacBook Air?

2: If this cable works with Apple's 67-watt jack, is it the only cable currently on the market that can fast-charge these M2 laptops?

3: Is Apple's 67-watt jack the only jack on the market that will fast-charge an M2 laptop through this cable?

4: Are there any USB-C-port automotive ciggarette lighter adaptors on the market that can draw 65 watts to fast-charge an M2 laptop while on the road?

I was wondering about this because Anker is selling 65-watt USB-C charger-wall-jack, and it occurred to me that if fast-charging an M2 laptop is possible with aftermarket accessories, then the Apple collection of accessories is not the only game in town... Is it?

What problems? I'm on my 4th MBP. 2009 17" UniBody, 2012 15" Unibody, 2015 15" Retina, and 2021 16" M1P. Never had, nor even heard of, a single problem with USB-A.
The ports were always too close together for more than one thumb drive back then. I only need one USB-A adapter for rare occasions since I swapped my cables for USBC.

Wonder how much it will cost probably around 100 dollars for a cable made in China that cost 1 dollar to make?? hmm Typical Apple trying to be different as usual.
Imagine how rich you could be if you figured out how to take that $1 cable and sell it to all kinds of people for $10 instead of what Apple charges. Send me a PM when you start making them.

Yep. Either just stick with all white and if they redid all colours (which they did) why not the small usb c plug and the adapter. We all know how cheap they produce this.
If you give a mouse a cookie...

I suspect its because if you color the USB-C AND the Power Block adapter...then you must also color the wall outlet plug attachment (and in several county/region versions/electrical standards)...as well as the optional extension cord wall plug (and in several county/region versions/electrical standards)...that's a lot of SKUs worth for 4 colors each part for an item that spends most of its life hidden on the floor below your desk. The "buck" stopped with the USB-C.

It looks fugly with the white USB-C connector. Thank god that turned me off enough not to pick one up for my 14" Pro.

There's no reason Apple could not have made a breakaway USB-C cable, and had it be a higher charging speed as well. I used a breakaway USB-C cable with no issues when traveling with my MBP.
That will break the usb-c spec. You can get third-party add-ons that like magsafe for usb-c but those are finicky.

This is so not Apple, why not just make the USB-C blue as well. This looks like it is wrong assembled what a joke.

Fact that they released matching colours due to complaints is one, but doing this shizzle is just meh.
Because the power supply is white!

Wireless, and yet, has a wire.

I fail to see how power can be drawn by the charging base/station/whatever without wires…
Even MagSafe on Mac has a wire that goes from the plug to the magnetic end.
Do you expect wall outlets to come with Qi charging bases as well?

No no no no no, that isn't MagSafe, that's a bad joke. Heavy, space consuming, magnets in the phone. Slow, inefficient, charging. Wireless, and yet, has a wire.
Its wireless between the phone and the charing pad. Even in the future when electricity is just floating in the air there would be a wire connecting your house the the power source. Your definition of wireless having zero wires isn't happening in your lifetime. Besides, having enough power to fast charge just in the air with you probably isn't healthy.

That will break the usb-c spec.

The USB-C spec defines pinouts and connector design, it does not require a fixed cable design, so a breakaway cable would still meet the spec; as would custom MiFi style chipsets using pins allocated for user defined functions. A manufacturer could design a custom cable that meets the USBC PD spec and still have features other cables lack so only their cable would provide 100% feature compatibility. A manufacturer could design a cable that meets the new EU law but still gives a "this cable not certified" warning.

You can get third-party add-ons that like magsafe for usb-c but those are finicky.

I guess it depends on the cable. I've used one for charging for several years with no problems.

Nice to have the choice though. I believe you can still charge an M2 MBA via the Thunderbolt ports. I'm sure someone will correct me if not.
Yeah you're right, I've got the 14 inch MBP, and I always charge it with USB-C cable when on the go. Standard USB-C / Thunderbolt ports support 100W charging at maximum, so it should run well with all MacBook models except 16 inch MBP in heavy workload

I love it. Apple released a silver MagSafe cable and people complained because it didn't match their space grey MBPs. Apple does something nice and releases MagSafe cables that color match all their computers people complain because the other end color matches the white brick which is almost always out of sight. If both ends color matched the computer people would complain about how it doesn't color match the white brick. And if Apple released color matching bricks people would probably complain about multiple bricks creating e-waste.

Some people are just impossible to please, I guess...

Wonder if the EU will allow this cable 🙄
It's not really an issue since in the case of the MacBook Air models, it can still be charged at full power through the USB Type C cable due to USB-IF PD 3.0 supporting up to 100 watt initial charging rate. We are still some ways from seeing devices with USB-IF PD 3.1 charging connectors that support up to 240 watt initial charging rate.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd rather the 4th Thunderbolt port like with the previous Intel model for my personal use.
same. I like 4x thunderbolt ports. more features and less crowded. the new M1 max is not symmetrical at all. looks very crowded.
