Thanks for this review! I'm using ESR Halolock, which works well but is very bulky and only charges at 7.5W as it's not Made for MagSafe. This one looks more compact and glad to see that it charges at 15W (showing the MagSafe graphic when connected) although surprised they don't play up the "Made for MagSafe" designation.
It's looking like the charging mount/disc would be able to magnetically attach to other magnetic vent mounts - is that the case?
I'm still waiting for updated tracking info. Did you ever get a tracking number for a domestic carrier?10 days....lucky you lol, im going on 11 days and its still in California
Hey all, bit of an odd question but I’m on a magsafe iPhone 12 pro max, gf is still on an 8. Anyone know a way to make hers “magnetic” so that we don’t have to have two different car mounts in each car? Obvious it won’t charge but just to make it stick.
Yes, the other mounts provided have a magnetic option on one side and some type of glue on the other.
That’s weird. Mine looked like it waited in customs for a few days and then once it left China it was delivered in 2 days.
The one I bought from eBay hasn’t arrived yet but it clearly shows the port for a removable cable. Even has a cutaway picture of the circuit board showing the jack. If yours is the same you should file a claim with eBay and get your money back. Don’t let them get away with crap like that.
Ok, so I received my mount/charger from AliExpress today (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001725287503.html). With coupon and shipping it was about $20. You can read my rationale behind picking this one in my prior post (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ts.2262215/page-7?post=29246630#post-29246630). It turns out to be, as far as I can tell, identical to the one rodriguez256 received from eBay. This means that it doesn't at all match the product page. This has the cable hardwired and not USB-C as depicted, and the plate is thinner and super glossy, not matte as in the photo. I will be requesting a refund or will do a chargeback if that is not successful.
As I said originally, I have no desire to use this as a charger, so I modified it it by cutting off the cable at the base. I did do some charging testing with the Amperes 4 app first for people who wanted to know. I did three back-to-back tests, plugged in to a 20W charger, and every time I got 3w. 😂 So, totally worthless as a charger IMHO.
As a mount though, it isn't bad. The magnetic grip is very strong on my bare 12 Pro Max, and I would not expect it to fall off under any normal driving conditions. I will post a follow up here in a month or so to confirm this. The vent mounting is solid, as is the adjustable ball. The glossy finish is tacky, but being black does help a bit to prevent it from being an eyesore when the phone is not attached. With the phone mounted, of course, the mount disappears, and it looks great.
So, as a cheap magnetic vent mount to use with the 12's built-in magnets, I give it a full thumbs up, with a caveat about the cheap finish. As a charger, totally and utterly worthless. I will probably use this until someone comes out with a more refined version (which may never happen) but until then this will do just fine.

Thanks for the info. I asked first what the plug was and they replied usb-c on mine Mine is coming from Calf but has been shipping label created since 27 Nov. Scheduled to arrive 7 Dec eBay says. If it’s not usb-c it’s going right back

Yup it’s the same exact one. While it’s charging I’m still able to stream music from it and have the screen on without the battery percentage decreasing. This is the only reason I’m still using it as a car charger. I’m ok with it not fast charging it or having decent charging capabilities, plus my 12 pro Max is so great in battery that it doesn’t really affect me all that much. I’ll will wait a bit and see what charger mounts come out as time goes on and then get something better. Hopefully beckon gets off their asses and adds charging to their car mount because the one they have now looks pretty premium.
I ordered from a different person on aliexpress and same thing. Wired cable. I paid 20$ each for them too. I wanted the usb c like what is pictured in their ads. i don’t mind the glossy as much in person was also hoping for black. At least the rubber is black and not grey.
I emailed the seller and he responded he would check on it. This morning the package went for shipping label created to accepted and arriving on Tuesday. I suspect it will be the same issues as everyone else
Congrats! Which ball mount did you already have (assuming you’ve decided to keep using it because it works better than the one included with the ESR)? I ask because for my vents, that is the main weakness in the ESR system and was wondering whether there’s a better ball mount for vents (maybe one that has a spring-loaded hook) out there

The Zeera has a hook and very strong spring mount that goes to the vent. Strong enough spring that I really have to work at it to get it open enough. No way it’s going to come off the vent.
Man that sucks. I don't mind Ali-Express if you receive what you ordered... knowing it is a knockoff and might not work as intended. But to receive something so materially different than what was pictured is bad. I was tempted to order one of these, but now glad I didn't. If I do end up ordering off there, it will be one of the ones that we've seen like the Zeera where I've at least seen photos/reviews from actual users.
I totally agree. I hate when the seller shows something totally different than what they send you. It’s terrible, but I usually expect to be disappointed with third party devices. I have no skin in the game for Zeera and paid full price for 2 of these. But as I mentioned before, I am pleasantly surprised and happy with my purchase. Did take 10 days to get to me in NH.
I hope the folks who bought from the shady sellers on Ali post some nasty reviews to warn others.
