DVD burn install failed for me.

Burnt fine, loaded up from boot ok, Even formated disc, BUT came up with Install Error & please try again!

Having to install SL blank and go that way now!

Did you notice if it created a recovery drive??

It didn't do a clean install... (too lazy). But it is too early to tell.

So once you click the $29.99 button does it automatically install, or does it leave you with something you then click on your Mac to install?

The installer is copied to your programs folder and you can start the installation at any time that suits you best. You will also get an icon in the dock. That's all.

So you can also copy the installer to any other computer and perform the installation there as if you downloaded the file directly. I was just curious if it also works from a DVD. But after the installation the file is deleted, yo you need to copy it before.

I will try a clean install some time later out of curiosity. I just don't feel like spending 2 days to setup a computer the way it was before.

I've left a 200GB partition free for purposes like this where I can have a dual boot option, thats how I installed DP4. So may do a clean install fo testing and messing but will upgrade Snow Leopard once downloaded.

I'll be going the lazy route probably till the weekend!!!

I am back home on my fast connection have downloaded 1.5GB in 5 mins...!!

Apple seems to do a QoS thing... I have a VDSL connection with 50MBit/s but the download maxed out at 1MBit/s. They probably want to prevent that all the the guys with supa dupa highspeed connections make their servers choke...

So if i already downloaded and installed Lion thru the App store. Can i still burn it somehow on a DVD?

Am I correct in assuming that instead of burning to DVD or restoring to USB flash drive I can instead restore the install image to an external firewire drive (& then boot from that to install Lion on my internal HDD); I wanna to a clean install? My SuperDrive is toast, and I'm too lazy to buy a USB flash drive. I've got so much external storage I figure I might as well utilize it....

I've got 40MB VDSL, I was getting about 2-3MB but slowed down. Just arrived...

Plan of Action:
1. Wait for Time Machine to backup
2. Copy Installer
3. Burn DVD and USB Flash
4. Check DVD media by installing into temp partition
5. Check install
6. Perform Upgrade to existing....
7. At weekend clean install

I've got a cable 50Mbps link (in the UK), and mine downloaded at around 5.8MB/sec. Wondering if traffic picked up now at their end, or maybe it's your ISP doing traffic-shaping?

OK ..I'm downloading the thing from the MacApp Store . I'm burning a DVD and see if I can get it to clean install it on a 13 MBP .

Have someone tried this ???

lol. I'm probably one of the few here that are old enough to see the humor in this.

Used to "notch" those babies all the time with a paper punch. :D

I hear ya, my computer lab in high school (TRS-80 Model III w/64KB RAM) had a hole punch chained to the desk for us more adventerous types. Still remember a couple of times I bit too deep into the floppy.

If I copy the ~4GB installer to an external HDD before I run the installation on my MBP can I then go back when I get a bigger flash drive and create the bootable image? Hope this isn't a dumb question, just want to get Lion installed asap but it will probably be this weekend before I get get a bigger flash drive (only have a few small ones, 2GB - 4GB, that I have gotten for free in various promotions) to create the bootable image.

I downloaded and installed Lion but now can't download again from the Mac App Store. It says "Installed" and I click the button and nothing happens. So is there a way to download and make a boot disc or do I need to do it with another Mac that doesn't already have Lion?
