OK... done. The installation from DVD (no clean install) worked like a charm! :)

Question: what's stopping someone from burning a bootable Lion disc and giving it to a friend so they don't have to pay $30? The honor system?

Don't flame the bejesus out of me, just asking out of curiosity. Besides, I don't have any friends cool enough to own a Mac ;)

If I copy the ~4GB installer to an external HDD before I run the installation on my MBP can I then go back when I get a bigger flash drive and create the bootable image? Hope this isn't a dumb question, just want to get Lion installed asap but it will probably be this weekend before I get get a bigger flash drive (only have a few small ones, 2GB - 4GB, that I have gotten for free in various promotions) to create the bootable image.

I did something along those lines. First copied it to my FW800 drive before installing on my first MBP (where I d/l from Apple's app store). Then used the image to copy from the ext. drive to my second MBP and install it there - which was successful. Also burnt a DVD off of the external drive. Probably going to try that to upgrade my iMac.

Really liking Lion...

I downloaded and installed Lion but now can't download again from the Mac App Store. It says "Installed" and I click the button and nothing happens. So is there a way to download and make a boot disc or do I need to do it with another Mac that doesn't already have Lion?

This.

If I copy it to 5.25 floppies, how many will it take?

I've notched them, so they're double sided, if that helps.

Hahahh! Who cares how many floppies it will take, but how long will it take to save it all. Also, are these 360KB or 1.2MB 5.25 Floppies?

Well, if you live long enough to do it, please let me know; If I'm still alive, I would like to know too!

OK Here's my Report

DL'd Lion from Mac AppStore [OK]-> Copied Installer to USB HDD(Backup)[OK] -> Extracted DMG from Installer [OK]-> Burned DVD-R [OK]-> Booted from DVD [OK]-> Formated HDD[OK] ->Made a Clean Install -> Install Succeded !!!!!!! :D

Next Steps :
-Check if It Boots (Busy for the next 10 mins)
-Making a Bootable USB
-Checking Partitions

Hope this Helps :D

What about burning to Blu Ray? Is it possible to boot from an external optical drive? It should install faster this way.

Stupid question:

I'm looking at the Install OS X Lion file and I'm right clicking it. I'm not getting a "Show Packages" option. (I get "Show View Options," "Open Surrounding Folder," labels, etc.) What am I doing wrong?

(I also looked in the library files, like the users before, to see if there was a separate file I should be peeking into, but I'm not finding anything.)

I just did a clean install of Lion (used a DVD) ... took me 20 minutes for everything on a SSD drive.

Downloading after install OSX Lion

Indeed, but you can download it again for free if you wish. Obviously not ideal but I didn't want anyone thinking that you only get one shot at an install after downloading.

YO cadillac1234, if you go back to the app store, click on purchases, hold option key and click on the osx lion it WILL let you re download free of charge....don't feel bad i pulled the same stunt and spent an hour figuring it out

Has anyone here tried to install iLife 09 (from the Applications Disc that came with your Mac) after clean installing Lion? Does iLife 09 install on/ work with Lion?

Crap. I already installed Lion. Is there anyway to access that disc image again? App Store won't let me download as it says already 'installed'. =/ Any suggestions please? Thanks!

You saved my life. Thanks for that help. =) Any suggestions as to where to find it once it re-downloads or are the directions listed above enough?

This is hilarious. Best post of the day.

Yesterday at work, I was attempting to attach the visual studio debugger to a running process in windows. The attach was taking forever, and making a lot of noise, at first I was concerned, but then saw the floppy disk light flashing. It was looking for dlls on the A: drive while attaching to this process.

I about flipped. I probably could've made the attach go faster if I could've found a disk to stick in the drive, but I couldn't even locate one. If this process weren't written at our company, I would've suspected a virus. Come to think of it, I kind of do anyway...

Just disable the darn thing on the bios, or even simpler, open the PC, and unplug the thing. What a pain!!!
