Google has become the worlds largest Spam generator ... AdSpam is everywhere ... I wish Google would just disappear forever.

Someone needs to create actual search engines again ... Google is so Crooked.
If not ads, how else do you propose to pay for the cost of running a search engine? Subscriptions? Donations?

how can Apple and Google have better relations when they are direct competitors? it is like saying AT&T and Verizon have good relationship.

Direct competitors? Google manages a search engine and Apple is a hardware software company for computers and phones.

It is amazing that a company that offers a free search engine can be so profitable. I hope it is solely due to advertising and not selling personal information. Recent;y google has tried to branch out into areas that are in direct competition to Apple but it doesn't look to be much of a success. Once google regroups and focuses on be a search engine company all will be well.

Google is doing it with more than just Ads ... Funny how there is no AdSpam on their own home page?

I do not trust Google ... they make Facebook seem like the Good Privacy Fairy.

I have no need for either company.

wow! i guess $1B is chump change for you
Actually that's a horrible income number for such large company and such huge emphasis on it. Apple didn't invent "copy&paste," but seems like even Google copied it from Apple.
yeah, because that doesn't exist anywhere in iOS ecosystem or within their apps, give me a break. you don't your data out there, get out of the cloud
They are not giving it away for free, they are giving it away with a heavy price on advertising monopoly and compromising users' privacy.
you obviously don't know the google business model and how they make money....here is a hint they make money off of gmail too
That's a great forecast for a product they give a way free.

I think Google should patent this under creative accounting, they found a way to multiply by zero and get a much larger number then zero.

Has google ever been "google bombed"?

btw - what exactly does a positive or negative vote stand for in this case? I don't think it can defined definitively.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yikes. A lot of hatred on these threads. I'm a big fan of Google search, maps, and docs. I prefer the iPhone, but some people prefer Android and I get it. It makes more sense for Google to make a more customizable phone for many handsets, rather than doing exactly like Apple. Going after the same customer would be dumb. Anyway, I think both Apple and Google are great companies with huge ambitions and the talent to realize them.

I say the same thing about Apple and the Mac

LOL

Actually the Mac's market share in the US is rising and is decent. The leader is around 26-27% and Apple is over 10% now. Can't remember the exact number. Anyway, It certainly is not a a bad market share. No company will reach a majority; only a plurality.

Edit: just realized you might mean that Apple should return to focusing more on the computers. I agree.

I would gladly pay for a Google subscription if :
  • They didn't sell or share information on my search habits
  • Let me hide all the advertisements on the results pages
  • Let me select the types of sites to show in the results (online retailers seem to dominate my search results even when I'm not searching for something to buy)

android is already a money maker and a good one at that, and they are forecasting around $1B per year for android, not to shabby, google's $$$ is just fine

ha! why am i not surprised? i guess apple invented copy and paste on cell phone OS and multitasking huh?

why would a relationship between apple and google translate into anything good for consumers? Both are making very strong products to compete with each other, let the iron curtain remain!

because PING and mobile me are far superior products ha!

actually, nokia was the first one introducing copy paste and multitasking in their phones before apple having mobile phone. When iphone was release it was normal to have copy paste and multitasking.

I saw this coming. As soon as Jobs announced his leave, I knew Schmidt would copy him. :D

I view this as a rebuke of Schmidt and all the **** he has thrown on the wall to find another revenue stream. Nothing is really sticking.

Dude, go back to talking to yourself.

I guess this is the aftermath of the Google-TV debacle (not to mention the Nexus disaster).
Will Larry Page be smart enough to stop Google from running behind Apple and do their own thing?

can't blame google too much though it was just bad timing for the tv thing. networks were peeved about hulu and were pretty direct about losing money on the streaming thing and google got caught

i've actually thought many times that I would pay google for a decent search, and good email without the ads. they've proven their programming prowess, it seems they could be a more legitimate company without having to resort to everyone's most hated thing on the internet; ads. just charge for a decent service and people would probably pay it. enough at least to run the free part and still make money besides.

Maybe this will soften relations between Apple & Google. I don't think Google Maps has been updated on iPhone in a couple of years.

A bit off topic, but am I the only one who absolutely hates the Map app on the iPhone? I mean Google directions works great, but the Map app uses Google maps, so then why can't the Map app give directions as well as Google Maps does? All I ever get is "head north-ish toward a big tree and this other random cross-street".

Anyway, back on topic, very interesting. And thank God too, Eric Schmidt always seemed like the Dick Cheney of the tech world. And there definitely was a reason for this move; probably certain fears about certain markets as someone else had already pointed out.

Eric Schmidt looks a little like Locke's father from the TV show "Lost":

One will steal your personal data, one will steal your kidney. Actually, both will steal your kidney. But only one of them will read your emails while he's doing it.

...or perhaps I'm just tired.

So much anti-Google sentiment on this thread...

I am I the only one who thinks that without strong competitors like Google (and Microsoft), Apple would have no incentive to push the technology frontier forward with their products.

If we do end up getting a significantly faster, more useful, higher resolution iPad in the next few months, it will be for one reason only - Android 3.0.

Like it or not, over the next year we are going to see a multitude of Android tablets that will trump the original iPad in terms of tech specs and functionality (UI is a different story).

Apple are then forced into making full use of their first-mover advantage and release a significantly better product - something to beat the upcoming Andriod 3.0 tables, rather than lets-say, an idential iPad with slightly more storage.

Make no mistake - having a strong Google and a strong Microsoft is a good thing for anyone who wants to see Apple technology move forward.

I will admit ... Microsoft has been an incentive for Apple to create a better personal computer ... however, IMO we would all be better off if Google died a painful death.
