But the 20 percent can be huge, depending on your needs.

For me, the superior OLED screen, having a bigger screen size, despite the entire phone being shorter, narrower and lighter than an 8x, two hours more battery life and Face ID needing only one hand to unlock ( I never could unlock TouchID with one hand - or if I just washed my hands - TouchID never would unlock for me) are all decent reasons to go "X".

Oh agreed, but the way some people go on, it's like the gap between the 2 devices is like the 6 vs the X. I'm actually surprised they made the 8 Plus so close in spec to the X. I was expecting a lower spec processor in the 8, a 512GB version of the X etc

Personally, I think they should have released the 8/Plus and the X at the same time.

I completely agree, and it should have been called the... iPhone X. There's absolutely no reason to have released the 8. The "new" features are barely an incremental upgrade over the 7. I can't imagine "regular" everyday consumers not being confused about why there are two different numbered phones being released basically simultaneously. I use the heck out of my 7+ every day and am not feeling the need to upgrade to either. It already completes any task I ask it to do instantaneously and has battery to last me typically around 1.5 days. This is consumerism at its finest.

Not even 'wowness' to compel a change (for me). Not judging others if they upgrade
That's a good point and it actually describes my situation. I just was not blown away like I have in the past. Not even the X blew me away. The features demonstrated on the X are features that bring the iPhone X up to parity with Samsung. They've had edge to edge displays and wireless for years.

I'm not knocking those who bought it, or those waiting for the X. If I were to buy an iPhone, I can see getting the X over the 8, simply because it offers actual features, the 8 is just oh hum, imo.

Me too. My wife wanted the iPhone 8 and a watch. I picked up my own watch along with the Apple TV 4K. For some reason I already have a bad feeling about next month. Unless Apple steps up to the plate, many of us won't get our iPhone X until after the new year.
Yes me also too many of us want the "X" no matter what we say LOL. It took me 24 hours after the Tuesday reveal but I am on the "X" bandwagon since I am on apples upgrade program why not (includes AppleCare and such in the price and my monthly will not go up that much for the 256GB X ;-). Will be interesting to see I can a few days before do my pre-setup for the preorder (getting the loan, etc stuff all done) with the apple store app and then on 27th click my order and be done but still probably 6 months LOL I fear LOL

Not surprising. Everyone's waiting for the X.
Yep ready to use the apple store app to pre approve my pre order before the 27th like some did with the 8 and 8+ since I am on the upgrade plan might as well use it lots of benefits for me the techie nerd that like you has to have the latest LOL but the fact they did not let us order X's today probably means exactly what we all fear not many produced it will take awhile to catch up with this new screen tech and production issues that have been rumored...

Everybody who's anybody is waiting for X.
Why of course LOL. at least us techie addicts that is ;-)

I am getting iPhone X. Hoping X remains available on launch Day.

Not surprising. I ordered a 64GB 4K Apple TV and a series 3 non-cellular watch for the wife at 3:02 eastern time, without a hiccup. The next month and a half of waiting for the X already feels like an eternity!
I ordered the exact same and had a wait on the Apple TV. I probably don't need the 64GB. But, for $20 why not.

Or they don't see much difference between the 7 and 8
Yes I am hoping that also -- that is why I did not really want the 8 Plus over my 7 Plus, the then the "X" hmm yep waiting for end of October and hoping you are right .....

I have a 8 on order for collection next Friday. I am going from a 6+ so it should be a decent upgrade for me. Lots of people are complaining that it (the 8) has the same form factor as the 6, 6s and 7 but one of the things I am most looking forward to is the glass back. I am hoping the back is scratch resistant so I don't need to keep my phone in a case to protect it. Can anybody confirm?

I'm looking forward to the Space Gray glass as well. The color depth looks pretty damn amazing even in those event hands on videos I've seen.

They've only said it is the strongest ever, whatever that means. Usually to make something very shatter resistant there is some trade off with surface hardness. I'm getting a Spigen Ultra Hybrid clear back case.

The bad thing about us waiting for the X is now next year we will not be able to upgrade until October at the earliest, which I do not think is fair. I am always up to preorder in September but the delay of the X will screw us all next year

Heck, I didn't even get the 6S. I might be lame, but my 6 does everything I need it to do. I can't find one feature I'm missing. Prob stick with it until they stop supporting it or something truly more useful comes along.

Me too! My 6 battery still lasts all day, and it has become a familiar friend with the odd scar here and there. It does everything I need it to very well. However, I am tempted by the X! The only thing I don't like is the "notch" at the top. For me, it will be keep the 6 or buy the X. There is nothing in-between. It's not logical, but my personality type. It's all or nothing! I have the money ready to buy the X at the drop of a hat, but I still can't convince myself I want to. The main reason is the notch. First world problems...

You and me both...

I wont be shocked to see high availability tbh. Extended production time, apple want high Q1 sales ( they cant charge your card or show sale statistics on unfulfilled orders so delays would reduce this quota) I wouldn’t be surprised to see most units delivered within 2 weeks

I have a hard time believing this. It seems more likely that Apple simply doesn't allocate as many of the GSM devices to T-Mobile as they do to AT&T (usually it's the exact same device just bundled with a different SIM, right?). Of course, my only real evidence is anecdotal and limited to waiting in line for the iPhone 5S at an Apple Retail store. (They had exactly zero 64gig gold 5S GSM on T-Mobile while they had a handful for AT&T.) And every year since, T-Mobile have been some of the hardest to find / sells out first, at least directly from Apple.

So of the most popular phone / color / size, which one got backordered first out of AT&T and Verizon?

Many of the people ordering the T-Mobile model are not T-Mobile customers. To Pre-Order an AT&T model, you have to enter your AT&T account information even if you're paying in full. That's not required for the T-Moble one.

iPhone 8 is not enough for me to upgrade from my 6 and the X is way too much money for a phone. I don't want to unlock my phone with my face...
Good I hope most are like you then I can use my upgrade program to get me an "X". I was on fence but reviews next day sold me on some camera tech only on the "X". Camera tech moved me from 6sPlus to 7 Plus and although 8 Plus is nice not enough. But the things I can do both with the dual sense stabilization on X and the front camera sold me ;-)

Quickly scrolling through it seems the popular opinion is that this is evidence of people waiting for the iPhone X. If correct that is great for Apple and maybe not so much for consumers as it will signal to Apple that $1000 is an acceptable price point. I have my doubts that the price jump to $1000 is appropriately timed but we shall see.

The X is awesome but I don't really want the first iteration of it. No interest in the 8+ purely due to size which leaves me with the 8 but I'm not going to preorder. I'm hoping someone with a 5s or 6 on a jailbreakable iOS 9 version will pop up on Craigslist in the next couple months. Instant buy, no questions asked. Emoji's and a better camera simply don't impress me (the last photo on my phone right now is from October 2015). All that emoji and full screen sms animated message BS is a turnoff for me and I'm quite happy with a phone that can't be flooded with messages containing that junk.

The only real interest I have in upgrading is because I'm finally coming up on using all of my 16gb 5s up (currently sitting at 14.3 gb used) and it's on iOS 8 rather than 9 and a lot of app updates are only available to iOS 9 and up.

I cannot wait to go pick up a 4k tv though. I've been waiting for that for a while now.

Not surprising - Apple shot themselves in the foot this year.

Who wants an 8 that looks identical to a 7? The odd person that appreciates 4k at 60p? Everyone else will appreciate the price drop in 7 more or go the full hog and cough up 1k for the X...

Apple "shot themselves in the foot" by making people want a $999 phone instead of one potentially hundreds of dollars cheaper? Is shooting yourself in the foot a good thing in your culture? :D

Also, "who wants an 8 that looks identical to a 7?". You make it sound like the 3GS, 4S, 5S, and 6S were poor selling phones.

Lol. That thing will sell out in five seconds!
Five seconds is very optimistic. My guess is carrier websites will screw up and launch early and be sold out before official launch time, and the Apple Store app will sell all of Apple's supply before the website even opens up a couple minutes later. Either that or every server crashes and were up until 6 am trying to grab just one.

Only thing I ended up ordering is the new Apple TV. Guess I have to stay on a roll as I've had all of them from the very first one. I wonder when Prime will be available? I'll probably axe Netflix soon as they are getting rid of a lot of stuff my family watches.

He's not wrong, I had to look it up and on Google Trends it's all about Nike, with the most searches coming from the Philippines and Ukraine (sneaker-happy places).

It's been a word since 1941, but usage has picked up in the last 3-4 years, likely due to Nike.

Color is a fine word - no need to pick up this usage.
But it's not just the color; it's the configurations available with a specific color. A silver 64gb is a different colorway than silver 128gb.

Lots of people (like myself) are using an iPhone 6. The 8 offers a 3 generation processor leap, and double (or triple for the Plus) the RAM, as well as much improved cameras and other features. I've decided to wait for the X, but I was very close to getting an 8 Plus. For $300 less than the X, it still seems like a decent purchase to me.

People who talk about "incremental upgrades" are usually the ones who already have last year's phone. But guess what, most people don't buy a new flagship phone every year. For most of the people buying it, the 8/8 Plus will be a substantial upgrade.

I have a 6S and I don't feel like the 7 or the 8 do much my phone can't.
The 7 is waterproof but beyond that it only comes with tradeoffs like missing headphone jack, fake home button which is nowhere nearly as accurate as say the touchpad on a MB and a back that scratches more easily.
The 8 has wireless charging and truetone, but again the same downsides of the 7. What can the 8 do that a 6S can't? All the AR stuff is iOS11, performance is still great on the 6S because nobody made any apps that use more power than this phone has yet, the cameras are roughly the same, the battery life is the same, the software is the same.

And my phone has this nice feature where it puts £700 in my account every year I don't buy the new one.
I'm not saying the new iPhones are bad, I am just disappointed they are not progressing faster or trying more new things, and instead charging more for the same old.

Sneaker head language. The silver iPhone x color way is dope af

The screen covers the front edge-to-edge and the vast majority of users will slap a case on it. You almost never see the "color" of an iPhone.

The X just ate the 8.

I can't afford the X, even on a plan. I want to get the 256gb 8 but its only a bit more for a 64gb X.

I feel like an idiot for even saying this is an conundrum for me when there are people without homes or food today.
