Another unacceptably huge iPhones.
Same slippery form factor since 4 years.
Screaming for suicide in my hands.
Waiting for the next SE.
What makes it even worse are the new gestures on the X. You have to reach both the very bottom (home) AND the very top of the phone (control center, notifications). I can just barely do that with my SE while holding it securely, let alone a larger phone. One-handed use has been pushed to the wayside with the X.

That makes me very, very sad
And I think it's very bad
Why is Apple sad and bad?
I do not know go ask your dad.

Yes I read too much Dr. Suess.

I have a 7+. I ordered a 8+ (and a new Apple TV). Why not? I'm part of the Apple upgrade program and it makes no difference to my pockets financially. It's the same exact monthly price. Might as well get a new phone with better specs. I have no interest in the X right now. Next year I will get it....Apple usually gets right after the first round or two. I've been burned one too many times being Apple's beta tester over the years.

But but but.... everyone on MR says they're overpriced and don't offer enough to make it worth buying. I'm sure they won't bother buying since they suck so bad.
No, no, get with the narrative: when the X sells out (because they can only get the requisite parts fast enough make it in relatively small quantities), that'll be because "Apple is doing it on purpose, artificial scarcity to make themselves look good, plus Tim Cook knows nothing about supply chain operations", but if the iPhone 8 doesn't immediately sell out (because they're actually doing pretty well on supply chain operations), that's because, "nobody wants the stupid iPhone 8".

I just hope this is the last year for this design.
Rounded rectangles are so passé. Next year, the triangle iPhone!

I completely agree, and it should have been called the... iPhone X. There's absolutely no reason to have released the 8. The "new" features are barely an incremental upgrade over the 7. I can't imagine "regular" everyday consumers not being confused about why there are two different numbered phones being released basically simultaneously. I use the heck out of my 7+ every day and am not feeling the need to upgrade to either. It already completes any task I ask it to do instantaneously and has battery to last me typically around 1.5 days. This is consumerism at its finest.
Eh, in my opinion (and in the opinions of many others), the 8/Plus is a superior phone. I wouldn't have purchased the X if it were the only offering, even if it were the same price as the 8 Plus.

I wont be shocked to see high availability tbh. Extended production time, apple want high Q1 sales ( they cant charge your card or show sale statistics on unfulfilled orders so delays would reduce this quota) I wouldn’t be surprised to see most units delivered within 2 weeks

That is 100%. Apple not only wants record breaking Q1 revenue, it must have b/c of general impressions and also Wall Street. Hard to say anything one way or another about X sales because we are in unexplored territory here regarding price, esp. the 256GB model.

Seems Apple is hedging its bets here which is why we saw lots of price increases last week for no real reason in iPad Pros and Apple Repair plus iPhone 8 costs more than iPhone 7 did at launch. 4K ATV is also more expensive than ATV4 when every other streamer company has no problem selling 4K boxes for $99, so it's not that the 4K chip or processor costs that much more than the HD models. I think Apple is trying to generate more revenue from other sources in case iPhone X availability is a serious issue that could affect Q1 revenue. So I'm not too optimistic that the X will be able to meet demand, especially if the rumored 10K/day production number is true and doesn't appreciably improve. Normal iPhone production during peak for the iPhone 7 was about 500K/day.

Still trying to figure out what to get the wife to upgrade her 6. Pay extra for the 8? Save a few $ and get the 7? Trick her into being frugal with a 6S but then why did we wait and is that much of an upgrade? Or pay $1000 for a phone the toddler will surely flush down the toilet so we'll need an extra 20% for AppleCare?

The only thing I'm sure about is I love my SE and I like current SE pricing even more. One has to wonder, though, if the SE is so popular, wouldn't the Mini be as well if it were priced comparably and updated on a reasonable schedule?

I did get her airpods in anticipation and she's very stoked on them. I might order a set myself. Seems like things are very confusing and hit-or-miss for some customers right now.
T mobile has got a $300 trade in for the 6 right now toward either the 7 or 8..not sure what the others are doing.
I'm going to trade in my 6 for the X when it comes out. With the $300 credit the monthly payment won't be too bad
:)

I should have slept through the night and just ordered this morning. Now I'm tired for no reason. Wish I could know this was the case before sitting up half the night. Ha.
Half the night? You're doing it wrong. Set up exactly what you want as a favorite, days ago, set an alarm for 15 minutes before they go on sale, get up, press order on your favorite, go back to sleep.

I just hope this is the last year for this design.

What other design is there? A big, skinny iPhone 4 or iPhone 5? A super skinny iPhone 3G shape? There really isn't any other direction Apple nor the industry can go. All the phones today have the same general design with maybe a few button layouts in different areas like LG. Maybe a few gimmicks like what Motorola is doing with their add-on accessories. But design wise, not much they can do. What are your ideas on how they can design a brand new form factor? Bring back old designs updated for today isn't new. It's just "re-imagined".

I hope that overall iPhone shipments and revenue is down this year so Apple doesn't get away with hiking iPhone 8 prices for no reason and next year has a more reasonable offering, even if the price stays the same but edge to edge OLED comes to all models.

Here the entry level iPhone increased from €770 to €830 for no reason at all, despite a strengthening euro vs the dollar.

As for the price of the X, I don't have an issue with that because I understand they had no leverage to negotiate with Samsung for panels as they're the only supplier until next year, and they need to price high enough so orders aren't swamped back months due to very limited production.

I read ya! I've written similar comments in the past only to be finger pointed back as a "You must give all your money to charity then" narrow-minded like comments. We are privileged and should not forget that some people can barely eat everyday. That was my 1 minute humanitarian comment - back to our regular programming :D

I know right. i'm not saying any of those things to judge anyone, only to assess myself and think of how good I have it and I need a constant spirit of gratitude.

Apple's iPhone X strategy will be to reduce the inventory so much that people will have no other option but to buy 8 or 8+.

I upgrade every year from Verizon and don't need to resell my device ever. I just get the new one I want and give Verizon my used phone. I couldn't care less on resale value.
You mean you are renting/leasing the phone. Of course, you won't care about the resale value.

I have done that in the past but this time I went through my provider. It was easier for me and I received some benefits on the watch like a few months of free service. I could set an alarm and get up but not being single I would have not been the only one waking to the alarm so I stick it out and just be tired. Ha. I'm sure there are better ways but its Friday so I'm good.

No one was buying the X, and had a laundry list of complaints for it, but every thread about the 8 preorder, "Everyone's waiting on the X." Clearly the majority of annual upgraders are still gonna be ordering the X, and skip the 8 it would seem no matter what kind of things people may be saying about the X. Must be to get others out of their way when preordering.
I think two things are happening - on the one hand there is some dismay about the X, it's pricing in particular, and whether things like Face ID are going to prove better or worse than we have currently.

But then on the other hand, the very fact that the X exists as the obvious and distinctive flagship of the iPhone line, immediately takes away a lot of the shine and appeal of the 8 - which looks dated and also overpriced for what is no longer a flagship iphone. So even those concerned about the X and not able or willing to pay for it, aren't necessarily going to leap on the 8.

I'm not preordering, but I'm getting an 8+ when my schedule calms down in November. I'm going from a 6. I mainly want a camera that shoots RAW and the new system on a chip. I have questions about how I will like the notch and FaceID. I would rather pay $800 for a form factor I know I like than take a flyer on the X.
Same here. I have already moved to S8. My wife is on 6 plus. I will wait for a good trade in deal from AT&T and upgrade her to 8+.

Not surprising. Everyone's waiting for the X.

as and APPL stock holder, i hope that's it.

the more-concerning version of the story is people thinking: "well the 8 is already 'old' so I don't want that, but I can't afford the X, so maybe I just won't get anything"

I think the 8 Plus is a solid choice. Looking at the X, I made some mock-ups based on posted size. If you use the screen mode that hides the cutout while watching video the screen shows the same width as the 7/8 Plus. You really dont gain anything with the X unless you want to watch everything with the notch in the view. Physically the Plus is bigger but I have been carrying one for 3 years now and it has been no big issue. You made a great choice.

Glad to hear the vote of confidence! Thank you! I've been a bit nervous jumping to such a large and heavy phone from my 5S.

About the X. From what I read, the notch will not intrude on usage so long as the app developers adhere to Apple's guidelines to leave that space alone (see the articles for details as my memory is lacking from having gotten up at 3:30 like a child on Christmas morning). I figure in another 4 years, God willing, I'll get the newest version of the iPhone X formfactor ;)

Or not, if Apple moves to wearable Augmented Reality. Time will tell and these are very exciting times for a technophile!

I toyed with that dilemma, but realized that my 5S is showing its age and it is time to upgrade. The 8 is a solid pick IMHO.

I think the pre-orders for 8 will be luke warm [by Apple standards] because a) it's basically the same as the 7 with a few, mostly unseen bells and whistles and b) the "hard -core" apple supporter will wait for the X.

Ultimately, I don't think this incarnation of the X will sell in the numbers of a usual Apple flagship, because in the main, the man on the street, who doesnt take an interest in tech, but just likes the latest trinket will be alarmed by the price of this and others, e.g. Note 8 etc. £1000-1200 for a phone is insane.

I spent sometime playing with a Note 8 this morning, whist I have no intention of buying one, it is a very nice looking phone, but to be frank, I can buy my wife and myself a pair of GS8's for the same number and get 90% of the features. I think folks will consider the same maths when the X is released.

Smooth ordering process (For Once) why can’t iPhone preorders be that easy and simple?! One can hope and dream!
very smooth when the (HUGE) day 1 demand is not there...
[doublepost=1505487881][/doublepost]Anyone feel the X is almost like ipad 1 or apple watch (1st Gen?)

TOP product and groundbreaking - but not quite the smooth and finished article. Next year's flagship will sort out any face id issues and maybe lose the notch

May be I am wrong. But I have been a feeling that Apple will sale good amount of X due to the initial hype and IUP. I don't see the residual buying increment because if its hefty price tag and the notch. But then never underestimate the brand power. I was such a big fan of Apple. I wish this will be failure so that Apple will go back to the design board and build something spectacular. They have all the money to survive a few quarters of loss.

thats a strong possibility. especially if u already have a 6s or 7.
