But but but.... everyone on MR says they're overpriced and don't offer enough to make it worth buying. I'm sure they won't bother buying since they suck so bad.

We buy them to make the world a favor and make sure that no one else makes the mistake of buying that overpriced phone ;)

Heck, I didn't even get the 6S. I might be lame, but my 6 does everything I need it to do. I can't find one feature I'm missing. Prob stick with it until they stop supporting it or something truly more useful comes along.

I got the 6S because I had a 6 Plus and I wanted to change sizes. I paid like £150 to upgrade and got a bump from 8MP to a 12MP camera, faster touch ID, 3D Touch, Hey Siri and the size I wanted, which seems like a great upgrade.

Why do you care if people buy it or not? It's not your money.

I don't care about these people's money, but Apple does and for as long as people will keep on paying more and more for less features, Apple will keep putting the smallest possible effort. They will start working to make something more than a phone with a bigger screen that they call the future of the smartphone only when their sales are hurt.

That's the reason I care, not that others waste their money.

I wont be shocked to see high availability tbh. Extended production time, apple want high Q1 sales ( they cant charge your card or show sale statistics on unfulfilled orders so delays would reduce this quota) I wouldn’t be surprised to see most units delivered within 2 weeks
yes that seems reasonable I wondered why we had to wait month for X but I hope that is the reason and then I will have no problem landing one on my upgrade program from Apple ;-).

Still trying to figure out what to get the wife to upgrade her 6. Pay extra for the 8? Save a few $ and get the 7? Trick her into being frugal with a 6S but then why did we wait and is that much of an upgrade? Or pay $1000 for a phone the toddler will surely flush down the toilet so we'll need an extra 20% for AppleCare?

The only thing I'm sure about is I love my SE and I like current SE pricing even more. One has to wonder, though, if the SE is so popular, wouldn't the Mini be as well if it were priced comparably and updated on a reasonable schedule?

I did get her airpods in anticipation and she's very stoked on them. I might order a set myself. Seems like things are very confusing and hit-or-miss for some customers right now.

Most people always paid $1,000 for phones going back to the original iPhone. The difference is the cost was always "hidden" in the cost of your 2 yr agreements. Now it's in your face and plain to see. So people are suddenly "shocked," at how expensive phones are.
It's still "hidden" in the cost. It's now known as financing instead of a subsidy.

Rocking a 6 as well (new battery/screen). And leading up to this iPhone season, I was 100% upgrading to whatever the next gen device was. But now... I'm conflicted for basically the same reasons you list.
Ugh... was so ready to preorder (emotionally, financially). I too may pass...

I'm in the same place. Was ready to upgrade my 6S no matter what. Unless I get some kind of a sweet deal, I'm passing too.

Mac Rumour commenters are a small subset of potential customers, I'm sure there are many other people who are quite willing to buy the X.

The difference in price between the 8 and the X is only a couple hundred dollars. For that you get a better camera, better screen, a larger screen but in a smaller package (the X is about the size of the 8 but offers a screen larger than the 8 Plus), and more.

We need to remember that the complainers here make up only a small portion of the total buyers. Most of those happy to buy the X aren't as actively voicing their opinions online. As always, MacRumors is more complainers than anything else sadly. Never anything good to say. Always nothing but bad news and complaint.

Many of the people ordering the T-Mobile model are not T-Mobile customers. To Pre-Order an AT&T model, you have to enter your AT&T account information even if you're paying in full. That's not required for the T-Moble one.
Still not buying it. Maybe because demand is lower, or maybe they've shifted their attitude, but the option is there this year to preorder a sim-free device / non-carrier-- and the iPhone 8 Plus 64gb is not backordered in the sim-free version like it is for the T-Mobile version. (256 is not backordered in either sim free or T-Mobile version, but in-store is sold out locally for the 256, interestingly-- opposite of the online store.)

Honestly, why would I choose the T-Mobile one over SIM-Free if I'm not a T-Mobile customer and either plan to use it on another carrier or just want to resell?

(I don't recall last year but historically it's been several weeks before a sim-free model became available to order-- we'll see if it's an option on the X next month.)

After the third re-cycle of the 6 platform/style, it's a non-starter except for people coming from another planet. It's essentially the same device form factor from 6 to 6s to 7, and now 8. No thanks!

Bzzzzz.... take me to your leader.... bzzzz....

On a more serious note. My 6+ experience these days is basically this - load... refresh... load... refresh... load... refresh. One more gig of RAM and I would have been fine for another year. So, just get the X right? Sexiest unibrow in the galaxy, faster than the speed of light and will keep record of every little imperfection on my face. Except... it's not a + model. It's just the 4.7" in a sweet sweet disguise. Sorry, but I like having -useable- screen real estate and I'm used to carrying my iSurfboard anyway. The 8+ may not win me any dates with the ladies, nor have people turn their heads when I walk down the street going "oh, look at that cool guy!", but it's going to get the job done just as fast with a bigger usable screen and for less even. I'm going to miss the animoji feature though. That fox animoji really speaks to my inner closet furry... oh, bummer. I guess I am from another planet after all.

Smooth ordering process (For Once) why can’t iPhone preorders be that easy and simple?! One can hope and dream!

You realize you're throwing tons of money away each year, right?

Not if I sell my phone every year on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. I sell it for more than I owe, pay the difference to Verizon, and pocket the rest. Usually about $150 profit. Then take that $150 and put it towards the new phone, hence lowering the monthly cost. If I wanna keep it, then I keep it. If I wanna trade up, then I trade up. It's nice to have choices.

Strictly speaking a taller, higher DPI screen. The Plus is wider and a more sensible aspect ratio. And being square, has more usable space.

If I get shipping on the X that is a couple months out I already know i'll be picking up in store with whatever stock they get in (checking stock each day) and cancelling the preorder.
Same. I don’t even have a certain model in mind because I know I’ll be getting whatever it available!

I saw my first Model 3 on the road the other day! Kind of a big deal since I live in the Midwest. Definitely looked different and stood out immediately as I merged onto the highway, but I still think I prefer the Model S design.

I still haven't seen a Model 3 in person, although I heard there was a sighting two weeks ago in the town I work in (Burlington, ~10 miles outside of Boston.) I'll probably go to the Boston store once they have one to display in a month.

I like the exterior design of the Model S, but the interior looks better on the 3. The only thing I'd ask for on the 3 is more seats... my Buick seats 6 and I'm going to miss being able to load so many people in my car. I take advantage of it fewer than 5 days a year, but those days are the best days each year.

I was expecting a lower spec processor in the 8, a 512GB version of the X etc

Yep, that's my big disappointment with the X - no 512GB. Especially since the hardware is there - a single 512GB NAND chip is available. I'm guessing though a $1250 US model was just too much for even Apple to stomach.

I feel like an idiot for even saying this is an conundrum for me when there are people without homes or food today.
I read ya! I've written similar comments in the past only to be finger pointed back as a "You must give all your money to charity then" narrow-minded like comments. We are privileged and should not forget that some people can barely eat everyday. That was my 1 minute humanitarian comment - back to our regular programming :D

The bad thing about us waiting for the X is now next year we will not be able to upgrade until October at the earliest, which I do not think is fair. I am always up to preorder in September but the delay of the X will screw us all next year

I didn't even think of that. I've always upgraded every two years. However with how crazy prices have gotten on the phones I'll probably upgrade every 4 years now. There's just so many other things I would rather have now as opposed to spending 2400 on phones every two years for me and my wife.

I'm a 6 plus launch day owner as well. I kinda got the X bug over the weekend but still not in love.

I didn't even bother looking at the 6S,7 or 8 as my 6 plus does everything I need.

Indeed .... I really wanted a "blow-away" X, but the combination of it not really being that revolutionary in the smartphone industry, not Apple's range, disappointed me. Add to that all the stories over the last 8 months or so of what seems like compromise after compromise (Can't get TouchID under the glass, couldn't get the cameras under the glass), it just feels like a compromise phone.

Not surprising. Most people who would preorder would want the latest and greatest model and are going for the X model. The series 3 cell watch, which I ordered at 3:01 this morning, is definitely going to be popular because it is really the model many people have been waiting for.

I'm getting the X, but I actually would've rather had a plus with the bezels chopped off even if the screen were the same diagonally. Or a slightly wider "Regular". And for screen mirroring purposes I wanted the landscape Springboard of the plus. But i definitely don't want the size of the full plus *shrug*.

Having placed my order for the Series III ceramic Apple Watch just after midnight; I'm looking forward to the added convenience of cellular. This truly is a great step forward in the Apple ecosystem.

Even so, I can't help but be a little put off by the keynote with its typical antics that make me feel somewhat embarrassed. The CEO has managed to find a way to blend cheesy with corny in such a way that's truly – oh, let me think – epic! Yes, that's about as original as the phony 'whoo-hoo' sounds that come from the audience. I mean really, who does that? It's like listening to a Homer Simpson cartoon episode.

When the camera pans across the crowd, we see a rather conservative and business-like group of attendees, and I'm hard-pressed to believe there can be that many ‘children’ blurting out ‘whoo-hoo’ on cue with the applause. Never once does the camera capture anyone in the audience performing the whooping. Even when a simple, unremarkable tag line is mentioned by a presenter, with no real visceral impact, we are to believe this stimulates a group of whoopers.

For example, at 25:38, the presenter announces; a heart study, which is commendable but seemingly not worthy of a yippee-ki-yay whoo-hoo, yet it's there! Does the CEO believe we’re that stupid and that we believe this contrived antic is real?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't believe for one second there can be that many adolescents in the audience doing this silly stunt unless they're being paid to do so. In my opinion, it is disingenuous and unnecessarily cheapens the brand.

I ordered the 8+ because i need a better camera than my 6s, but I'm tempted to cancel and wait until next yr. However, if I don't like it, I'll just return it and keep my 6s for a few more yrs. I've soured on the X, the more I see of the Notch the more I think it'll drive me crazy and there's nothing in it, for me, that justify it's ridiculous price. I wish I liked Android, if I did, I'd get the Galaxy S8 - that is my favorite phone - other than I hate Android.
I think the 8+ is a good option but I'm waiting for the X. I like the screen size with the smaller form factor.
The S8 is a nice phone but has some issues. And as far as the notch is it functional.
I'm glad they didn't just put black areas in there like the Samsung phones..No one seems to be taking about that.
Maybe they'll put in a option to square off the top? I hope they bring reachability back for the X.

GPS + Cell 42mm Space still able to pick up from local Apple store on 22nd. Good thing, completely forgot about pre-order.
