Or just support external monitors properly...
I really dislike this mentality that small = non-pro, big = pro.I feel like maybe 12.0" and 14.0" Pros might be optimal, given the direction Apple is taking the Pro line, but larger than 14" probably moves it out of iPad territory into a completely new touch desktop paradigm. Moreover, I would say the more urgent screen size question is around MacBooks, more options between 15.4" and 17.3" would dramatically improve the lineup. The 13.3" screen size is starting to feel like the 4" iPhone 5s in 2013/14, it's ok for a portability focused machine like the Air, but out of place for the Pros. a 15" Machine can be very light and compact, as several Windows competitors have demonstrated.
Yes - that is needed. But being able to carry an iPad mini with me and open it up when desired - in a cafe, sat on a park bench, anywhere, is what I'd like.Or just support external monitors properly...
I would sell my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro and buy a new iPad Mini if it was updated to Pro-like specs.Yes - that is needed. But being able to carry an iPad mini with me and open it up when desired - in a cafe, sat on a park bench, anywhere, is what I'd like.
In fact, I have often thought through having an iPad-like device that I just clip my phone to. All it really does is add screen area. What I usually need to do is so simple the phone would likely have enough computer power. I just want a larger screen to make it more pleasant to view.
Maybe not. Maybe given the thermal envelope of the iPad running a full fledged macOS would result in a less fluid experience and/or worse battery life.M1 iPad Pro and iPadOS 15 proves that Apple is intentionally limiting iPadOS's power.
Apple is probably sticking with its vision of the iPad until they can develop a seamless way to integrate both. MacOS really isn't optimized for touchscreen-only, and only allowing the full MacOS when a full keyboard is attached and active would be awkward.M1 iPad Pro and iPadOS 15 proves that Apple is intentionally limiting iPadOS's power.
Can you quantify the number or fraction of Pro user wanting significantly more of iPadOS? Lot's are happy as is and MR is not representative of whole population. Pro user also want more of MacOS so what is your point?iPad Pro being not Pro because of iPadOS haha. How come iPad Pro users demand more than what iPadOS offers?
I’ve never understood these types of comments. The iPad is not a Mac…..it’s the beginning of what could eventually replace the Mac. And has for millions of people. There isn’t much farther to go with iPad OS to do this for the vast majority.I like this idea in theory, but Apple's devices have an identity crisis right now. The iPad Pro has beautiful hardware, but it is increasingly feeling hamstrung by its OS. There are simply too many things a "normal" computer -- any normal computer -- simply does better. On the other hand, whenever I go back to my MacBook Pro, I now instinctively reach for the screen. Whatever merit Steve Jobs' anti-touch philosophy had for the Mac (and I think it did have merit at the time), those principles are outweighed by our expectations that screens can be operated by touch.
Apple should either let iPads do what Macs can do or let Macs do what iPads can do. And if that results in one or of the other of these platforms losing to the other, then so be it.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I sometimes try to dismiss pop-ups and dialogs with my finger.Also…..I use both macs and iPads daily. I’ve never nor have I ever met anyone who “reaches to touch the macs display”. Especially after both being around for a decade, one would think you’d be used to switching. It’s like saying “I’m so used to my phone I try to put the iPad in my pocket”
Mac Pro is a fraction of desktops that is a fraction of all Apple Mac sales. MP is also not successful? iPad Pro is the the top of the line iPad just like the MP is for Mac.iPads, not iPad Pro. We keep seeing complaints about being limited so I wouldn't say it's a delusional.
Strange , my daughters that weight 40-50 kg has no issues with their 12.9 inch.12.9 is a bit unwieldy already. If you plan to watch a movie on the while on the sofa, I have to rest it against something because my wrist starts to hurt when you hold it for a long time.
So what ? 27" iMac can't go on airplanes either. What's the problem?

How about one's which run in 24 and 30 inch flavors. That run macOS instead of iPad OS. Mounted on a large base which allow a wide range of tilts all the way to full horizontal. Making for a great competitor for the Surface Studio.

👏😂 The irony being Apple had a patent for a SS style iMac a decade ago and never did anything with it. The SS is a nice machine, but the old internals and price point deem it a no sale."Introducing the Apple iPad Studio.
Oooops. Sorry, Microsoft. This time we copied you. Turn about's fair play."
Could be a path, but the Surface Studio is a product so successful, its current version runs on a 2016 CPU and won’t be able to install Windows 11.
Made by the same company with the highly successful Zune, Windows Phone, Windows Tablet Mode, &c.
Just because it doesn't do well for MS. Doesn't mean it wouldn't sell like hotcakes for Apple.
Although my original was more a crack about Apple not just making a touchscreen Mac already. As even the 12.9 iPP is really pushing it on the tablet front. Becoming a tablet in name only. As something appreciably larger would be impractical to use as a standalone tablet.
What do you mean “properly”? As a touchscreen device, a second display on an iPad can either be an output monitor or a mirror or the iPad screen. Otherwise, apps would need to support a completely different interface paradigm for those things that ended up on the second display.Or just support external monitors properly...
Define “Pro-lIke specs”. You want Pencil support (that is likely), an M1 (possible, but less likely), Pro-motion display (possible)? What is your use case for the device?I would sell my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro and buy a new iPad Mini if it was updated to Pro-like specs.
