That's so odd. If the s/n checks out on the website, it's hard to imagine why the store wouldn't trade it in. I agree, if it's convenient, try again in a few days, and if there's a problem, get them to explain it. You probably know this, but you can keep the band, charging cable and wall wart when you trade it in to Apple.

Yes, thank you. I was aware. Part of the reason I was planning on just trading it in vs. just selling it on my own. I don't want to have to give up one of the bands, the charging cable, etc. I'll for sure have to stop and get more answers.

Just happened to check again last night, and the South Coast Plaza Store had a SS Black for pickup today! I'm just hoping that they will let me trade in my launch day Space Grey Aluminum. I would think they would since I'm only a few days past the return window and I'm trading up, but we'll see.
Apple took the return no questions asked. Gotta love Apple. Plus the Black SS is sweet!

Actually, I just picked up my black SS today and was going to trade in my old watch which was on my wrist and I was told that if I didn’t have the box and accessories that they would charge me for the missing accessories. So when I got home i got the box and all and took it to another Apple store and returned it

They told you that they would charge you? My apple store literally asked me to keep my sports band from my S3 during trade in when I went and bought my SS with Milanese loop

I’m talking about a series 4 that I just bought on launch day. Sorry, I thought that’s what we were talking about. Obviously they wouldn’t expect it from older device.

Yeah, sitting in traffic was a minor inconvenience on my part considering someone was having a much more terrible day than I was.

The gal didn't give any reasons as to why. Watch works fine, in great condition considering it is 23 months old. I wore it in to the store, picked up my new one, asked about the trade-in, got an answer and left. She saw it was working, commented on how it still looked new, and then checked the serial number and said it couldn't be traded in. When I check the serial number on the website it says it's worth a $115 gift card. I'll be back down in that area in a couple of days for work. I might make another stop just to be certain.

That is odd; the watch I traded in was newer, and they just confirmed the serial number, had me unpair it, and refunded my credit card on the spot (because I didn't do the trade in as part of the purchase). The product specialist did look at it to confirm condition, but the old watch is in excellent condition. What was annoying was that only afterwards did I realize (looking at the receipt) that it was for $25 less than what I thought the website had indicated last week, but the pricing could be dynamic. Regardless, it was easy/instant, and I didn't have to turn in a band/charger as part of the process, so I'm happy with the process overall.

I’m I the only one in the UK on this thread?? Everyone here looks like they are sourcing from US..

Still looking for a SS S4 w/ Sports band.

Had the same problem. Website said yes. Store said no.

Turned out I hadn't unpaired it and removed it completely from my iCloud account. After that it appeared to take 30-45 minutes for Apple's cloud to get in sync and THEN the store process worked.

I believe we have some non-US "watchers" here...just not sure how many from the UK. I'm in Canada myself and there's barely any activity since this morning. Was at an Apple Store today too and they did not get any Stainless Steels. I'm still on the lookout for a 44 SS Gold with Sports Band.

As a (stupid?) general observation, it seems like Apple ships a lot more of the stainless versions with the Milanese loop. That probably makes sense, but personally I don't like that band and I don't want to pay $100 extra for something I would literally never wear.

Not a stupid observation at all...I believe that's what's been happening.

Sort of makes sense? Maybe that's what people want? Maybe Apple can "force" people to up-sell themselves by making the more expensive version easier to find?

I live in the Boston area and the Boylston Street Apple Store gets a lot of the Hermes Watches. I've been amazed at how regularly they seem to be selling out of those. But I don't know whether that's "I gotta have SS at any price, I won't wait" or "I really like the look and I'm willing to pay for it." Gotta say, I do like the leather straps with the deployant clasp, but not at $550 or whatever the price is.

It's all part of the marketing strategy. Entice people to pay more and cave in to the barrage of Hermes versions that are coming in the stores first..LOL!!

I think the last full week of October will see a lot of fulfillment of orders be shipped out. I know quite a few members have an October 24 through November 5 Time range for delivery.

Got lucky and was in an apple store to get an iPhone repaired and looked at the apple store app to see if they happened to have one in stock, saw the 44mm SBSS and bought it, and returned my Nike edition.

That is one bizarre Apple Store, and a hassle. When I traded my S1 Sport in, simply no issues at all. She even took off the original black sport band and gave it back to me. She just took back the watch case only. Just glad it worked out, some people throw away the box it came in.

Thank you iStock! Found a 44 SS Black, Milanese Loop but I picked it up any way. Asked if they would be able to override my launch day aluminum and they did. Gotta love Apple.

Same here. Took the unpaired S3 off my wrist yesterday at the Apple Store, $250 toward the S4, and I got to keep my strap/charger (that I didn’t even bring with me anyway). That was it. All in one transaction. Couldn’t have been easier.
