9cbd rocks

i don't even know if it needs calibration. the links on this forum do look purpleish but they also do on my imac 24

I think this issue could be something as little as personal preference. People are saying that 9CBD is perfect but I have 9CBD and its far from perfect for myself. Greens are just too strong and blue is too much like purple so maybe its just a personal preference issue more than anything.

You know, the 9CBD is the same model number as the Macbook Air monitor, and up until this system was released, everyone kept posting how great the Air's monitor is.

Now that more people have it, it's almost like you're looking for things to dislike about it.

It's a great monitor and if you've got issues with the color, calibrate it. Simple as that.

I have spent days doing that and nothing works it very hard to get it the way you want it. Could you attach your calibration so I can apply it to mine and see if it makes mine look better?

I have a 9CBD, and out of the box it looked super bright and kind of washed out-- the shadows from windows were difficult to see overlaying other windows. Changing the gamma to 2.2 made it a little better and more usable.
And blues and greens were pretty bright, but i didn't see purple links like some people have been saying.

Anyway i calibrated with SuperCal, and now it looks great--2.2 gamma, and overall a little bluer. So I'm wondering what exactly is everyone complaining about-- the default color LCD profile, or are your screens unsalvageable even after calibrating?

If other 13 mbp screens look good out of the box, then maybe I should consider taking mine back. But then if it's just the default profile, it's really just a software issue, right?

When I had an 1st generation MBA I wasn't at all happy with the display, but saw one unit in the Apple Store that had what I considered a great display -- it was a Chimei 9c6F. Is that being used in the latest Macbooks, or is there a newer version from the same Chimei line?

To OP, it maybe a good idea to include the panel vendor. So far we have:

9C8C (?)
9C9E (Samsung)
9C9F (LG-Phillips)
9CA0 (Chi Mei)
9CA1 (?)
9CBD (LG-Phillips)

For people with 9C8C and 9CA1 panels, can you please run SwitchResX and check the vendor info?

Most of these panels in the new 13" UMBP are brighter and sharper than the previous model. It all comes down to personal preference. Some panels are a bit yellow, others are a bit blue, which can be corrected by color calibration. If you experience a blue-purple florescent light effect even on an external monitor, then there is something wrong with unit, not the LCD panel.

The light ripple-wave effect appeared on all Nvidia chipset model (it's not LCD panel issue, it can be detected on external monitor also). Apple will need to release update WebKit to correct this issue, as it appeared under Safari, Firefox, but not in Opera browser. Some people also reported ripple-wave effect does not appear in 10.5.5.

9CBD

Compared to my previous unibody MacBook, this screen looks amazing. Compared to my 2 year-old Toshiba, it looks pretty washed out.

Calibrating made it look a bit better but why do PC laptops at half the price have better screens?

It's one things I hate about Apple.

it may be caused by AA

Ding Ding Ding ! Winner. I got a 9CBD and am very happy after finding a decent color profile for it. Great display. If only it were matte. ;)

yup great monitor i have the 98BD as well. much better than the previous umb screen. i use a profile that was calibrated using a spyder pro

Could some of you include your calibration profiles for 9CBD ones so I can try them out on mine please?

Anyone got any colour profiles to send so I can try these out with my display because so far I cannot find any.

Thanks HFU...I have updated my OP. :)

well i just called & talked to tech support, he had me reset my vram & hardware, etc, but colors are still off, calibrated again with no luck so now i'm going to try my luck with a replacement

however, after booting up after clearing my vram i noticed that about an inch to an inch & 1/2 of the bottom of my screen was a little "warmer" i guess u could say, he immediately recommended a replacement, so i'm boxing my baby up tonight and calling Fedex tomorrow

i'm crossing my fingers i get a perfect one this time :)

now i have to do the hard part with waiting all over again  no big deal if its worth it

good luck to everyone else & i'll report back when my new MBP arrives hopefully later in the week

When you mean warmer you mean better? I might give this a shot. How do I do what you did?

How do you find the different model types again? I've looked around and I seem to be missing something... I'm just plain old slooooow

Page three I think it is, someone explains how to do it.

Download http://www.madrau.com/switchres/SwitchResXControl.zip, run it by clicking "Export EDID" button. Save the text file and read it from TextEdit. It should report model number at the end under Descriptor #2. You will also see the color info and manufactured date. 9C9F could be the same LG-Philips panel as 9CBD with different manufactured date. Please also share Color Info section.

no warmer as in a yellowish/darker tinge to it, not good lol

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

i guess its worth a shot to see if it at least helps you, i just can't wait to look at my monitor & not wonder why my greens are so flourescent & my blues are purple lol
