The one thing I think people continually overlook is the size factor. How enjoyable a 10-11" handheld device will be.

The iPhone's size factor is pretty much locked in. Those screens are never going to get much bigger. Phones will remain the ultra portable *pocket* gadget.

The tablet will be something else entirely. It's likely not a device you carry with you everywhere (depending on what features overlap the iPhone and need). You'll likely have to experience it, to get it.

Is it just me or did he say "the Apple tabloid... um tablet..."

Possible ridiculous product name ? :|

Colorful and cheap. Full of ads?

Well the "tabloid" may be ridiculous; but I think the most ridiculous one I've seen is "MacsiPad" or "Maxipad". Apple Tampon, anyone?

The more news that is leaking out, the more I am starting to become disappointed.

The Apple Tablet sounds like a glorified e-book with multimedia capabilities.

Oh my, didn't Terry just say 95% of textbooks are available for the tablet? And I presume that the same deals are already made or will be made for other textbook publishers? I can just imagine every college student toting one of these.

Furthermore if newspaper and magazine content were on to a similar deal, the chances of this device replacing print media and textbooks are huge. But that can mean bad things ahead too.

If printed books and magazines manage to be outsold by electronic media, the need for paper manufacturers, printing presses, delivery boys and transport systems would be less. It may not look like much now, but such a device, if widely successful, could potentially kill off whole industries and wipe hundreds of thousands of jobs.

This is a step towards a star trek TNG society, Apple will lead us into a society without poverty and greed, and children learning calculus when in elementary school.

Nope. It's a well-timed Apple PR leak.

For this CEO's sake, I hope you're right. But I think you're probably right anyway; Zero Hour is tomorrow and contained leaks like this usually happen the night before (at least from what I noticed). There's always some source/leak/etc. that comes out like 12 hours before the actual event takes place and makes a bunch of "rumors" about the new product(s) that happen to be pretty close to the real thing while still being vague.

Have faith. It stands to reason that the guy from McGraw only knows about the capabilites that concern his firm. I think SJ will have some surprises!

I love how before the iPod was released everyone was like "An MP3 player?... what the? I already have a rio..." and then before the iPhone was released "a phone? what the? I already have a Palm Treo that can do videos and music and apps..." lol

I'm having Déjà vu.

since apple is very successful in the market for cool, luxury digital accessories, rather than workhorses, that seems to be what most people want, or?

maybe you were expecting too much?

i remember when the ipod was announced, i was so disappointed, i saw no need for a cool mp3 player. still dont, and have never had one. MBPs on the other hand --> fine creatures!

I agree. Until Android and/or some other OS fills in the gap of a platform that isn't locked into a single-source App Store, everyone gets screwed.

So why did 50 million plus people in 77 countries buy iPhones and iPod Touches? Evidently they don't feel screwed at all. 3 BILLION app downloads so far.

You, however, do feel screwed. Evidently. So go buy some other phone and computer! See how easy that was?

:D

fine by me, once you're still allowed to express you own opinion, even if it is not in line with mr jobs' opinion, and once you are allowed to install what you want on your iphone, even if you did not buy it from apple corp :)

Your use of accent marks is imprseeive! I also agree...

Yep! When I first watched Steve Jobs showing off the iPhone in January 2007 I thought, "why would I want one of those things? I don't even use the cell phone I have now...." and it wasn't too long before I realized just why I MIGHT want "one of those things" and bought that first iPhone on Launch Day after waiting in line..... Why is it that I have the sneaking suspicion that tomorrow I'll watch the announcement and regardless of what is actually announced, features present and features missing, will still begin planning just how soon I can obtain "one of those things....." ?!!!

What I hope to see, if apple is aiming this to the education demographic, is one super badass graphing calculator built in. something with at least all the functionality of a TI-83 for example.

I really like the eReader/Kindle type screen and would like to see this on the Apple tablet/ipad/islate. I dont think it will have this type of screen which will make it a FAIL for me. I can't see myself reading a computer screen for hours on end....would kill the eyes. Kindles screen is perfect.

Still excited for the announcement.

I think placing a textbook on a tablet is a bad idea. People blink far fewer times per minute when looking at a computer screen than they do when looking at the printed page. Also, the whole dynamic of pagination will disappear.

I agree... sure there are some negatives to having Apple control the store, but it sure beats the alternative, which was what was happening on Windows Mobile for years before. A bunch a sucky ass apps that were impossible to find and no way to know if they were any good. Which resulted in what again? no-one downloading and/or purchasing anything...

Well to be fair, no one promised us a full blown touch computer. I for one, REALLY wanted an e-reader. An e-reader that would potentially change the concept of the medium. I could only imagine Apple really pushing that to the masses. Masses = change.

Combined with rumored multimedia capability, the form factor, for what I do, could really change the way I work. It will certainly make it easier. I generally need to have HUGE amounts of information with me at any time (more in volume than file size). Hi-res photos, schematics, any and all info on older projects, movie files etc. iPhone, Evernote, MobileMe are great for this, but the form factor doesn't make it easy to share that info with someone else on site.

Laptops are too cumbersome if you're sharing and walking.

Again, the form factor is largely underestimated.
