I love how before the iPod was released everyone was like "An MP3 player?... what the? I already have a rio..." and then before the iPhone was released "a phone? what the? I already have a Palm Treo that can do videos and music and apps..." lol

I'm having Déjà vu.

well I for one, REALLY am not fond of iTouch's, and don't just need an electronic book reader. Their are MANY publishers that my school uses, and dont really FOCUS on McGraw.

I used McGraw books in HIGHSCHOOL and like MIDDLESCHOOL.

i mean this tablet cant just be a glorified TEXTBOOK reader/Book Reader. College kids already, we have it hard buying the books, that the bookstore's rob us of, so we buy books off amazon/froogle/half.com

i pray this is not just an iTouch. It just cant be. I mean really, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the TABLET! Its just like an iTouch but with a bigger screen and can read books and magazines, electronically!

*crickets*

We'll we also have the iPhone 4G/4.0

**** it, we're also updates macbook pro and mac pro lines.

"mr.jobs what happened?"
"well I guess we shoulda added more capabilities than iTouch and reading books and magazines"

see where im going here?

I see your point, I do

But the iPod entered into a market that wasn't really there. Where their players? Yes. But the big names of today weren't really around. Apple jump started that field. So while the Rio was around, it wasn't a dominate force in a big market.

The iPhone entered into a whole new world. Phones( in this case smartphones) had a real market. Palm OS, Windows Mobile and Symbian were big players, the market for those devices was bringing in cash. The iPhone shows up,and shakes up how the market works. Apps, touch screens, etc become standard.

I'm not saying the tablet won't be a big hit. But the market it is entering is one very different from the iPod and iPhone. iPod just didn't have many big names in an unproven market. iPhone had big names in a proven market, but changed the game. The tablet enters into a world where tablets haven't done well, despite many big names trying.

That said, if anyone can make the tablet viable, its Apple.

I am not sure what this device will be but I would like it to be integrate in some way with people's entertainment centers at home.
Maybe connect to AppleTV or a MacMini bringing some sort of media center capabilities, a way to manage libraries of multimedia content, a way to access iTunes store, set up an schedule to record shows on the Mac, etc.
Something on this sort of realm.
Please! :)

this is from Gizmodo about an article from the WSJ just moments ago,

On a smaller note, the WSJ says that HarperCollins is trying to wedge its way into the starting up lineup tomorrow (though don't expect to be blown away by what they show). McGraw-Hill, who was pretty gabby about the tablet earlier today, won't be showing anything. "

Flash support for iPhone at last?

forgive me if someone already said this but could the iPhone finally be getting Flash support? The reason I say this is because, the tablet will be running a "version" of the iPhone OS and we know it just can't ship without flash support so maybe with the 4.0 release for the iPhone (the same one the tablet will be using), flash support will finally arrive.. Maybe this is part of the "overhaul".

I dont think it will have this type of screen which will make it a FAIL for me.

OT: where did this habit of writing "FAIL" originate from? i always imagine the authors to be 15 year olds with bad skin and a skate board ...

i suppose it's something mainly said by americans,
where did come from? is it a quote from a film?

One hour to go until the big event. But then, the world ends. The Aztecs were wrong! The world isn't going to end in 2012; it's set for January 27th of 2010!

Sucks that McGraw Hill confirmed the tablet. I was extremely excited to see them unveil it, but now that it's confirmed, it feels boring. We all knew the tablet would come out, but that slight uncertainty while watching the Keynote is what makes it. Now we'll be expecting the tablet, and it won't be as thrilling as Jobs announces every aspect of it. I guess it's just psychological.

I'm still excited though. 24 hours left!

I think placing a textbook on a tablet is a bad idea. People blink far fewer times per minute when looking at a computer screen than they do when looking at the printed page. Also, the whole dynamic of pagination will disappear.

I agree. Those kids should be forced to carry around a backpack full of 50 lbs. of books like I was!

What I hope to see, if apple is aiming this to the education demographic, is one super badass graphing calculator built in. something with at least all the functionality of a TI-83 for example.

You will be able to have your stats textbook and a graphing calculator all in one device, then have the professor say "well you still need the TI-83 for test because you can't use a computer during the test"

if it is a larger ipod touch that can read books, you won't need to buy it.
you will have extra cash to buy something else.
be grateful that you've saved money

When I was a boy, we weren't allowed to use programmable calculators. <end old man rant>

It would be amazing if it could replace the Apple TV. The iPhone after all plays movies on your television. Perhaps the iPhone could act as a remote, as it does now for Apple TV.

Ummm... what?

aiming a little low, aren't we?
let's hope it will be something that really changes our lives and work, not just something to set up schedules to record shows.

that's like going to a boxing match, and just hoping that nobody gets hurt.

but what im saying is, I save ALOT of money buying used/international/older edition textbooks on ebay and other sites.

if I take this route then im buying the tablet + new editions of the book.

WELL i certainly hope since im just recieving electronic print then the price of the book SUBSTANTIALLY drops, since im not paying for the binding, print, and so forth. IF THATS THE CASE then i still would be a candidite.

What about when the thing dies to after a while, the battery life. Do I have to run out and buy a new one, and then what about all my texts and things on there? Are they in some sort of cloud, or just connected to my "apple account"

and FINALLY they would need MANY BOOK PUBLISHERS in on this thing, because alot of small time publishers are used in schools too.

But what you said is true in a way.

I'm having Déjà vu.

Horrible example.

People had personal music players before the iPod and before the rio. People has cell phones before the iPhone and the Treo. The subsequent innovations replaced something that - at the core - was the same. This tablet doesn't replace anything in a cost effective manner.

If you think this is an alternative to magazines and newspapers, you must be one of the 35 people who signed up for Newsday in the three months since its online news went pay-only.

No one, I mean no one saw that live. if it wasn't for Mac Rumors neither of we would noticed that either. That channel has an specific TV viewers and it about specific business things. Thanx God that we all know now that the tablet is coming. It wasn't a leak it was a comment of how the new tablet will work with his plans. So, enjoy tomorrow the specs, the features, and the brand new breed of Macs that will come in the future. This is a step by step learning that Apple is teaching us on how we need to interact with the new Macs in the Future. We play on iPod touch (and learn how to use it) we use the iPhone (and learned how to work with) now the tablet will teach us how to use a computer without a keyboard. in five years we all going to be using touch iMacs in a new revolutionary way thanx to all this gadgets that teach us how to be prepared.;)
