apple care will be calling me around 6pm tonight, i will be requesting a free bumper. will let you guys know.

lol. Ya'll are easily bought off with $29. I'm taking notes.

F dat, recall that mofo and re-issue fresh acceptable working joints

I'm with you on this one.....don't take that BS of "we give you a free bumper that is already having problems and just forget about the real issue with the phone" from apple. They just need to man up and accept responsibility for the problem and do the right thing by fixing it, then send out replacements, not re-furbished!

So just messed with a co-worker's IP4 and couldn't get it to lose signal, and even took the bumper off it. Guess he's one of the lucky ones

When the Wii was released Nintendo were quick to issue free wrist straps and gel cases for their remotes to stop customers smashing their tvs and other household objects.... and that was a case of customer carelessness in my opinion!

this time its definitely a manufacturing defect in some batches... not customer error!

I think its a joke to charge $30 for a little piece of rubber. It doesn't even offer protection for the back. And we know that the hype on how tough the glass is, is bs. I can get a nice leather case that doesn't let pocket fuzz stick to it for the same price and that's what I will do.

People do buy tvs without remotes:rolleyes:

Ok it was a bad analogy but its all i could think of when starting the thread....

...But you must get my point?

I dont actually have the issue, as far as i can tell.... i just thought it would be interesting to discuss the possibility and hear from both sides.

Store was out of them. Ordered one, but believe it should be for all buyers, for free.

- improved protection
- supposedly reduces antenna issues (if it's an issue at all)

The bumpers are pieces of crap. If you can't fix the problem and won't replace the phone then give me store credit so I can pick a decent case, if anything.

A successful class action lawsuit is inevititable at this point. Apple may as well save the legal fees and just give the bumpers away.

Phazer

It's still a business. They still have a job to do... and the fact that they gave bottled smart water, doughnuts, and bacon-egg-cheese sandwiches to people waiting in line... I think that we should probably just say "thank you" for what we got.

Yea and you're assuming that everyone got bacon egg sandwiches? Those of us waiting @ 7am yesterday didn't see any of that. Get your facts straight.

Sense of entitlement much?

No one forced you to purchase the 1st batch of iPhones. You chose to buy your iPhone w/o getting detailed opinions or reactions. Walt Mossberg even said it had issues and you still bought it.

Apple does their part by replacing a defective unit. They don't owe you anything.

I voted yes, simply because I want one, not because I think I deserve one.
The spoiled brat answer. Kinda like Paris Hilton's fame.

Call me cheap and greedy, but I agree with that answer. I already have one and just want another one!

I don't understand why so many people DON'T have this issue. I can put the phone in my hand right now with the corner nestled in my palm and one by one, the bars start dropping. And call me crazy, but I don't like to be told how to hold my phone. I just wanna grab it and use... and when doing just that, the corner of the phone often lands in my palm. I'll admit, it's not a huge issue when I'm at home because I usually have a full signal and losing a couple bars wont result in much of a difference, but when I'm at work, my signal is always poor and if I so much as hold my phone a certain way, I lose service. It pains me to say, but I think this is a pretty big oversight by Apple.

I don't think it would be out of the question at all to send out bumpers to those who bought the first revision of iPhone 4, assuming they'll come up with a "fix" for later revisions. Let's be serious; you know it costs them pennies to make those damn bumpers. I certainly think SOMETHING needs to be done and that seems the only feasible option.

BTW,

they can just sell my bumper on ebay and end me the money. That case is the stupidest thing ever invented.

It would be well worth it just to shut people up.

1) P/U free at any Apple Store or pay $10 shipping/handling for mail delivery.

2) Only Black and white available in-store or chose any color on-line.

3) Bumpers are loose, not packaged for retail.

Well, here's the thing. Their new product has an issue. It's not something they can deny. So what would be cheaper for them? Recall them all and fix it, deal with a class-action lawsuit, or give everyone a store credit of the same value as a bumper case so they can get one or another case if they want to fix the issue.

I mean, it's not being greedy or anything, THEIR product has a very definite issue, something has to be done to remedy it.
