Not that you guys care but I reserved a EVO :)

its coming out on june 4th i went today and put my name on the list to get it. its 200 dollars with the contract with a $100 mail in rebate. seems like a great deal. plus sprint has a 69.99 plan with unl mobile to mobile, unl text, unl data, 450 any minutes, free nights starting at 7 and wknds.

cant wait!

ps i still love the iphone and i did want one but i att is expensive and i cant pass up a deal like this for a phone like the evo.

no its not more for 4g. my area doesnt have 4g anyway i dont think. and no att is way more expensive. for me to get 900 mins unl text unl data it wuld be 110 a month from att. sprint is 40 cheaper for a better plan....plus way better service in my area. my sister and gf have the iphone.

and no i still use this forum cuz i have a mac and i still like to browse around about the iphone

yes the 4g service thats impossible to find

You can search the map for it on their site.
It's amazing that Philadelphia has 4G, but NYC does not. I think they'd sell a few more Evos in NYC than in Philly. Even Lancaster is showing 4G coverage.

Yes it is. It's $10 month extra. I'm not sure if you get charged for having a 4G device, or only if you want 4G access.

thats not what the sprint guy told me. but even if it is it would still be 30 a month cheaper than att with a better plan

#1 it's unrealistic to expect the Evo's battery to last too long enough to do anything serious ( or replacement of home internet!)
#2 if you think that you can have it plugged in when you tethering..think again...because when it heats up, the phone will stop charging. ( I do have the HTC touch pro 2)
#3 the hardware will not survive the daily abuse of tethering/wifi ...i doubt if it was desinged for that :)

we'll all see soon enough 'cause plan to get one too ;)
(in addition to my 4G ...ofcourse )

They probably can't talk about that until it comes out. Either that, or you don't get charged since you don't have 4G coverage.

Hmm, just saw this one:
http://www.twice.com/article/452612-Sprint_Reveals_New_Features_Price_Of_4G_Smartphone.php

Although EVO is priced comparably to select 3G Android smartphones, the phone will be costlier to use compared to other models. The phone will be bundled with an Everything Data plan, which starts at $69.99/month, but Sprint will also require an additional $10/month premium-data add-on. The premium is justified because the handset's performance and features, such as video chat and simultaneous voice and data, will encourage more data usage - even in 3G markets -- than is typical of other smartphones, consumer marketing VP David Owens told TWICE.

And Engadget confirms that a Sprint rep told them the $10 fee was mandatory:

You'll be back to the iPhone soon enough....

From personal experience, i went to a nexus one and I use my 3GS now because the keyboard and a ton of other things just plain suck on android atm...maybe they will improve those, but right now the iPhone kills android in usability. iPhone doesn't have as much customizable stuff compared to android, but honestly, i can do anything i want with a jail broken iPhone and it's just an overall better experience. Sense ui definitely improves on android a lot, but i eventually came back to my 3GS.
All the cool stuff to do on an android phone also requires "rooting" which is more involved than jail breaking an iPhone.
As far as sprint 4g....we have 4g service here in Raleigh, nc and I tried it at a friends place using the sprint overdrive....it was seriously a quarter of the speed of my AT&T 3G connection. We set the unit to only connect via 3G after that and the speed was slightly better but still nowhere close to my 3G connection on AT&T. I am just sharing my experience and I am hoping you have better luck with coverage In your area. Sprints 3G service is notoriously slow...only beating AT&T in areas where AT&T service is horrible.
For me, in nc, I am completely happy with AT&T, i actually posted a thread regarding the evo a while back and showed the speed test with AT&T and others posted some tests as well...
Maybe you will not come back to the iPhone...every person is different

ya but i was messing around with the incredible and andriod 2.1 runs good. and the evo keyboard is huge because the screen is so big. i know i will not have a problem with the keyboards. as far as usability, i admit the iphone os is a bit more simple but its also more limited, where andriod is more of an open program. i dont think ill ever get att unless they get cheaper plans and better coverage.

like i said before im not downing the iphone in anyway. i still love it, and honestly you cant find a more solid and well rounded phone. but the specs and features of the evo for that price i just cant see how i can go wrong.

^ i made the switch to the nexus 1 as well, and I was actually a G1 user before I came to the iPhone

as of right now, android is still young IMO, until google allows developers to allow apps to be stored on the SD card, apps are going to be 2nd class to iphone apps

btw, i made the switch because i always liked androids notifications and i figured i only used 4-5 apps on my iphone, so i will make the switch

but BOY WAS THAT A DIFFERENCE, the apps on the android marketplace SUCK

facebook android <<<< facebook iPhone
Twidroid <<<<<<<<<tweetie
android games <<<<< iphone games

all the apps werent as polished as the iphones and crashing apps is sort of common

anyways, i made the switch back to a 3Gs and luckily made some money off of it, but id suggest you think twice

pros of androids
notifications
multitasking (will take some getting used to because your so used to iphone closing apps)
GMail integration
Speech to Text

Cons
Apps arent polished
No really standout apps
You might run into apps that are only supported by certain devices only
Down the line, your device might be slow to get updates, ex. when the nexus one had 2.1, droid took FOREVER to get it, and on top of that, you have Sense UI so it might take longer

thanks for your 2 cents. but even with your 2 cents i still think the evo out weighs any of those downfalls. and there are some good apps for andriod but i admit there are more ******ish apps than on the iphone. but that doesn't matter to me, new apps are released everyday practically

Incorrect. When on 4G, you can do both data and voice.

Ooooh, ahhh! Available in 11 out of 50 states. I am ASTOUNDED! Seriously though, very few people will take advantage of the "4G" experience. It's so little, it's a joke. :)
