Just pre ordered mine at the local RadioShack for pickup next Friday.... That will give me a month to play with it and decide if I keep it or upgrade the iPhone.

Timing actually works out perfect, I have an entire week cut from the agonizing wait for the Apple event :D

I

The iPhone is the only device that has the YouTube limitation. All other smartphones always played full rate over 3G, AFAIK.

Thats not true because it's been shown that on the EVO 4G, youtube HQ which is only enabled in WIFI Mode or 4G is a higher Bitrate than in 3G.

its completely night and day.

That's what I thought.

On FROYO, can you play the apps off of SD card or they have to be on system memory?

It can be on the SD card, as long as developers choose to enable the App2sd option.

If you root, you can force all apps onto the SD card. Of course, app that requires root access can only work if it's stored in the internal memory.

Holy smokes, you're right ! I just checked:

The Incredible's native YouTube app requests the lower resolution version when WiFi is unavailable.

I'm disappointed. Ah well. I've downloaded the HQ version of YouTube for Android and am about to install.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Silly question;
As an iPhone user on AT&T if I get the EVO and decide to keep it and jump ship can I then port my number over to Sprint or do I have to do it when I get the phone?

With the Law in place. All users can port over their numbers from one carrier to another.

so yes.

update: Also, i did talk to both verizon and sprint, they said that they would be willing to give you a temporary number if you are just trying it out. And when you decide to keep it, then you can port over the ATT number.

No he is wrong, on my nexus WITHOUT froyo... I could not watch youtube HQ over 3g.

With my nexus and froyo I can over 3g

With my EVO I can, and quite well.

Just pre-ordered the EVO. Best Buy says I'll get in on the second batch. I'm excited to join a growing platform and looking forward to a fresh experience as I've grown very bored of iOS.

I hate flash with a passion but if I can browse ESPN and other flash sites on my phone it'll be great. I won't be getting WiMAX in my market for a while it seems but that's okay, it's not like iPhone was going to be 4G either. I can't wait for my 30 day test drive!

Can you post a video of the EVO on 3G running at SD bit rates? Froyo is a different topic but I wouldn't mind seeing that as well. Sense UI will not be on Froyo for months.

Your video would make a different in whether I want to go sprint or verizon.

Thanks

Cool. I was just surprised that the Incredible asked for lower quality over 3G. I'm pretty sure my WinMo phones didn't do that.

In any case, a quick download and install of an updated YouTube player took care of everything. Now I get HQ video over 3G. Just takes a few seconds longer for the initial buffering.

I like my iPhone, But HTC Evo

I have been using the iPhone for the past 3 years and invested on plenty of apps. I am looking forward to see the new hardware in June, but HTC evo on Android looks sweet. I can't see myself switching because then I would lose all those apps. I would have to re-purchase on Android. Plus, most apps on android are not great. Plus, the Evo is on Sprint. Plus, there is no 4g in most places yet. Froyo sound great, but iphone 4.0 sound great, too. I am more than liking stay with the iPhone.

Yes, I want to know what you guys and girls think about Android. Competition is great, but why change when you already have a great product. Google needs to give a compelling reason to switch! As long as Apple continue to make the iPhone awesome, there is no need to switch. Plus, most of us invested on many valuable apps. Are there a great reason to switch?

What is the point of this post?

Don't feed the trolls.

I agree with the op. I thought about switching, but after paying for Navigon (and LOVING it), I don't think I can switch to Android. Google Maps Navigator seems great, but I think Navigon is still a bit better, especially since the maps are already preloaded.
