Didn't engadget post last night that to use the videochat with Qik it would cost an additional 5 a month. Throw in the 10 for 4G as well and it pretty much negates the whole sprint has the best prices factor.

There's too many factors when it comes to the Evo, you can't just get the phone and enjoy all its capabilities unless you're willing to pay through the nose.

Well, let's see... my two iPhones on AT&T cost me $220 a month for 1400 minutes, unlimited texts and two iPhone plans. Sprint will cost me $150 for all of that and 1500 minutes PLUS I can call ANY cell phone no matter what carrier it is and it doesn't go against my 1500 minutes. Seems like simple math to me. $10 per Evo or not, I'm still making out like a bandit. I sold my 3GS for $550 and my wife's half working 3G (the camera didn't work, the speaker was busted, and the proximity sensor and ear speaker didn't work) for $200. We are pre approved for Sprint with no money down and are just waiting for 7 days to wait in line at the Sprint store to partake in all the beauty that the EVO has to offer. I've had an iPhone since launch day of 2007 and this is honestly the first phone that ever made me want to switch. I have 4G in my neighborhood so I'm double excited. $10 a month extra for each phone? Who cares, it's well worth it considering I'll save almost $100 a month... oh and my company has a 15% discount with Sprint whereas with AT&T we had 3%. So, a $150 bill will actually be around $135 - $140 after taxes. Bring on the savings!

Interesting review on the EVO from an iPhone user:
http://techcrunch.com/2010/05/29/htc-evo-4g/

that review is bias to the max. I didn't even read the whole thing since I knew it would be from a bias Apple fanboy. What's funny is he says he got 4 hours of moderate usage; while other legit reviews says it last a lot longer then that. He lost all creadibilty when he said "Both the Nexus One and the Droid Incredible are better".

I read the entire article and this is definitely one of those idiot Apple Fanboys. Check out ANY non biased review on youtube. There is NO lag on this phone, as the fanboy in the above noted article mentioned. He must have little girl hands if he can't handle the size of the phone. And I think he's probably jealous and pissed off about the fact that you can access and remove the battery because he actually took the time to diss the fact that he had difficulty getting to it. Again, see youtube videos, most people remove the back plate to show the inside of the phone and none of those peeps seem to have difficulty. Perhaps this person received a faulty unit? Maybe he dropped it because his iPhone rang and he got excited thinking it was Steve Jobs calling him and the phone slipped from his tiny hands? I don't know. The only thing I can't weigh in on is the battery life. I'm sure this thing doesn't have a very good battery life but why does everybody b*tch about battery life on their iPhones, Nexus Ones, Droids, etc..? It's a smartphone, people... you're going to get poor battery life out of it. If you want a phone that lasts three days, go get you one of those old flip Motorola phones that can only talk and text. So, to summarize my post, if you're a typical Apple lemming, pay close attention to that review and remember that Steve Jobs is the techo God...but if you have a mind of your own and can think and judge for yourself... try something else for a change and see if you like it. Come on in, the water is warm.

some perspective

I like the idea of the HTC evo, but I really like my iPhone! I have purchased a lot of great apps and enjoyed them. If I were to switch, I would have to find similar apps and spend more money on those apps. I am happy with my iPhone and I'll never feel a need to switch. Unless, Google will allow us to get similar apps for free. Plus, the next iPhone will have same functionality as the evo and then some. Sure, it won't have the screen size, but the next iPhone has a greater resolution density. So, apps will look way better and also on the iPad. iPhone/iPad combo is unbeatable tag team for now. Google cannot compete. Android phones have not present me any reason to switch. Att is getting better. I may switch carrier in 2012 when 4g is truely available.

Where did all these android fanboys come from? Why are you hanging around an Apple board?

We get it - you fanboys think Android is the best. Gotcha.

I have had every iPhone model since 2007....Paid $500 for the first model and had to sign a 2 year contract :)

However, this year if there is no Hotspot I will buy the Evo. Have one on pre order to test. We where promised tethering last year and this time I will not fall for another empty promise.

Hotspot for my iPad from Day 1 or Evo......

My plan exactly

If the new iPhone has

4.3" Screen

4G Speed

Mobile Hotspot

Adobe Flash

LED Message Light

Then I will be getting the new iPhone

I will be test driving both though

I think you know that none of those is going to happen, save maybe the notification light.

ummm blame your carrier not apple its not there decision to enable teathering.

and if you want a hotspot jailbreak and get mifi from cydia. works perfectly

Fixed.

Literally every other review says the opposite for the things he complains about.

Many legit reviews out there complain about battery and sluggishness. Engadgets last podcast they said the same thing. These guys are reviewing. The guy said himself an incredible is a much better phone. Nothing is "fixed" you guys need to realize android is far from perfect. The iPhone has it's flaws too.

"It’s almost unfathomable how bad the battery is in this thing. Why? Well you might assume it’s the massive 4.3 inch LCD screen. But according to the Battery usage area in the Setting menu on Android, the display is only eating up 5% of my battery on average. Instead, it’s “Cell standby” (again, I have 4G off), “Phone idle,” and “Android system” that eat up over 75% of the life."

-Tech Crunch

"If you are hungry for more cellular data speed, and live in a current 4G Sprint city, the EVO may be just what you need, as long as you’re prepared for short battery life." - W. Mossberg

Yea....bias....lol I guess his settings lied. Reviews are reviews bud.

Put a deposit down on one of these. Going to give it a whirl. Will also pick up the 4G iPhone. Test them both and see how it goes.

Figured, that's the best way :)

It seems to be popular to beat up the battery life, even though (as in the case of USAToday's EVO review) the author even notes that his iPhone died at the same time.

The reviews should also note that a phone with swappable battery doesn't have to stay dead. Just swap in a charged spare. Or as I always do, buy an extended battery to replace the usually wimpy stock one, and get hours more time without swapping.

Finally, a lot depends on where you are in relation to the closest cell tower. For example, there's one (apparently shielded) shelf in my house that will guarantee drain the battery of any phone placed there overnight.

It'd be nice if some of these so-called tech reviews actually did some scientific battery measuring and comparisons. (And no, I don't mean like that ridiculous EDGE vs 3G comparison somebody did years ago to "prove" an EDGE based iPhone was a necessary evil.)

Totally agree with you. Most reviews that I've seen say that the phone will likely make it through the day. It'll be low and need to be charged every night. My iPhone is definitely no different. I have to charge it every night and if I go out anywhere after work I will definitely see the 20% warning (which I swear is more like 5%).

And very good point about the battery. If it really is an issue, having two batteries is a good idea. I'd bring my phone to work and if I'm going out at night, swap out to a fresh one before I leave home. Simple and pretty convenient. I think the phone is a little big to want to throw a hump-back battery on there, but who knows.
