I have been using the iPhone for the past 3 years and invested on plenty of apps. I am looking forward to see the new hardware in June, but HTC evo on Android looks sweet. I can't see myself switching because then I would lose all those apps. I would have to re-purchase on Android. Plus, most apps on android are not great. Plus, the Evo is on Sprint. Plus, there is no 4g in most places yet. Froyo sound great, but iphone 4.0 sound great, too. I am more than liking stay with the iPhone.

Please keep us all updated on what you decide, we're all on pins and needles.

Don't feed the trolls.

Me? Yeah, sure, I'll admit it - I'm the troll who has been a member of this site for five years and just doesn't understand the point of a post where a guy does a rushed, incomplete comparison between two phones without asking a question or even making an argument at all. Seriously, his post was just a slightly longer version of a facebook status update.

I'm not mad at the OP, I'm just wondering what the point of it was.

Fine, I agree with you. It's just that I hate it when people jump at other people who might not be able to express themselves as well. All the op needed to do was explicitly say he was asking for our opinion, but he seemed to forget to say it. I saw the point of the op's post and I decided to contribute instead of pointing out at the flaw in his post.

I like my iPhone, But HTC Evo.......is just the same as it is in the 20 other posts just like this one.

Yes, I want to know what you guys and girls think about Android. Competition is great, but why change when you already have a great product. Google needs to give a compelling reason to switch! As long as Apple continue to make the iPhone awesome, there is no need to switch. Plus, most of us invested on many valuable apps. Are there a great reason to switch?

Your title of this thread is misleading. Can people please learn to write proper titles for their threads.

Should of written...."I like the EVO 4G but my iphone..."

Get an EVO and an iPad and keep your apps

Or root the EVO, and wirelessly tether (for free) your iPhone to your EVO and keep using your iPhone apps. That's what I plan on doing. You have 30 days to play with the EVO on a full money back guarantee, so what do you have to lose? (Just make sure you restore to factory settings if you take it back :)

Plus, most of the Android apps are free anyway. I have made a list at appbrain.com of over a hundred apps that I plan on getting and the total to get them all is under $10 so it's not like it's going to be a huge investment app wise.

The thread goes here

Please stop wasting space on the forum with EVO talk because there is already a combined thread for Android stuff.

Actually I do agree with the so-called troll to a degree. And while I understood the jist, I will say there's nothing wrong in asking get their point across clearly and concisely.

Now, to address the OP - if you feel the pull of shiny new hardware that strongly, why not do as another has suggested and do the 30-day trial. Also evaluate the apps you use on a regular basis. Are they as robust as the ones on iPhone? Perhaps they're better? The nice thing about the trial is that you can take the phone through its paces and make an informed decision.

Just a personal thought, since I can understand where the OP is coming from and everyone else is busy having fun not answering . . . my boss just got the HD2, which has the same screen as the EVO and therefore is very close in size to the EVO, and that is just WAY TOO BIG to be carrying in a pants pocket. I get annoyed at the size of the Iphone sometimes, taking up as much space as it does. The HD2/EVO is considerably larger. If you don't mind the size, I guess it's nice. In addition, I really don't want to give up my apps, and I don't have a problem with AT&T service. I just don't have any motivation to switch to anything else - and the new Iphone looks just about perfect, physically, to me. Thin, classy, and rugged. Two here please.

If Sprint allows the Evo to be upgraded to Android 2.2 I might be interested--when 4G comes to NYC.

The sad thing is that Sprint will still make you pay the $10 4G surcharge even in areas where there is no 4G service yet. Not.

Didn't engadget post last night that to use the videochat with Qik it would cost an additional 5 a month. Throw in the 10 for 4G as well and it pretty much negates the whole sprint has the best prices factor.

There's too many factors when it comes to the Evo, you can't just get the phone and enjoy all its capabilities unless you're willing to pay through the nose.

Fring and skype are free for videochat. I don't understand why people are still bickering about the $10 charge. Aren't you still pay more if you are using an iPhone with ATT?

I know that's why I mentioned "with Qik". Despite whether or not it's still usable elsewhere, it's just an added nuisance that shouldn't have to be there. That's my main point. Phones shouldn't be complicated. To people like us it may not seem like a big deal, then again a lot of evo customers are probably geeks who talk about it on forums like us on whatnot so who knows.

edit: I'm not comparing anything to the iPhone, just stating a fact is all. I can't even get the evo in my country so I wouldn't know what americans pay at ATT. It's just a slippery slope. I'm not a fan of all these added charges.

I don't know if Qik is a standard app on EVO but if you have to pay to use it then it's just like another app that you have to pay on Android or iPhone. It's only a nuisance if you let it bothers you. Maybe if you think differently.

I'm just purely speaking on the principle of the matter. I mean you gotta pay to use Qik, gotta pay for 4G, gotta pay if you want to use hot spots, gotta pay for the phone itself, gotta pay the contract price.

It's a path I'm not a fan of. And here in Canada we get charged for EVERYTHING, caller ID is 7-8 dollars, incoming calls are not free unless you pay 12-15 dollars, etc etc... so I guess I'm more sensitive when it comes to non stop added charges. They need to END, not be added to.

I understand what you mean, but it's business. You have to pay for what you want. You don't have to pay for some of these features if you root your phone or jailbreak for iphone.

Is that an EVO in your pocket, or........Seriously though, the EVO is gonna kick butt. IF you wanna keep your apps AND still want an EVO, why not get an iPod Touch (or iPad) and the EVO ? Best of both worlds. I too am thinking about an EVO. I'm a tech guy, and though I love my iPhone, and my apps (over 300 of them), I'm a guy who loves tech, not just Apple. ALSO, if you live in NYC, you realize that AT&T's coverage might not be as good as Sprint's (In NYC). I work in Jersey City NJ, and my iPhone is practically a brick here, even when I put it on Edge, it's very spotty. My co-workers in Jersey City with Sprint have no problem. So besides being an incredible multi-media gadget, the EVO may just be a better PHONE than the iPhone. And after all, that's it's main function, being a phone.

Add to that, Sprint's plans can save you some money ($80 unlimited is a lot lower than what I pay), and having an EVO with some essential apps, and an iPod Touch (or iPad) with your multitude of apps can be a pretty good idea. Now of course, this may not go for everyone, some areas, AT&T's reception blows away Sprints, but not around NYC & Jersey City. Really is a tough choice, my contract is up in September, so I'm going to see what the new iPhone 4G has to offer, as well as the EVO. I think anyone making a move like this should educate themselves in all things EVO and iPhone before jumping on the new hot toy.

The EVO 4G isn't much larger than the current iPhone 3GS, despite having a much larger screen. It looks larger, but probably just due to the increased screen surface and the lack of a huge bezel surrounding it.

iPhone 3GS: 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm

Evo 4G 122 x 66 x 13 mm

4mm wider and 7mm taller, or about 1/8" wider and just over 1/4" taller. And of course you get a removable battery and storage while retaining the form factor, oh and that ginormous screen.

4G is apparently already (unofficially) live in NYC.

As opposed to the iPhone on AT&T where you gotta pay for any subscription apps you have, gotta pay $30 iPhone data plan, don't even get an option to tether (though you can bet they would charge an arm and a leg for it if they did), gotta pay for the phone itself, gotta pay the contract price.

You forgot to mention another $8 for voicemail. Canadian phone carriers are robbers, nothing more, nothing less.

However, it's up to Qik to charge whatever they deem is suitable. Lots of apps on iPhone/iPad charges monthly subscription fees. Personally I think it's ridiculous but it's not up to Sprint to dictate what 3rd party app charges.

just learned that 4G is also Live in LA

Makes that EVO much harder to resist - I average about 0.8 Mbs down on my iPhone3GS here in LA (when it works) and call reception is terrible.

called sprint today and got pre approve.. just waiting for the new iPhone if it's better suited for me or not... otherwise, I'm getting me an EVO.
