So you prefer a black background with buttons that open programs that you have to back out of to get back to the same boring screen to open up another? The iPhone is for you then. Please take the Evo back so others can enjoy the highly customizable Android experience :)

Wow instead of trying to suggest things to help get a more polished feel to a new Android user, you just bash them. You are so useful to the Android/iPhone community.

It's not a war.

He wouldn't have bought the EVO if he didn't want it. I'm hope he can find whatever phone suits him best. From my experience... it's not usually a good idea to sacrifice coverage for a device though.

Good news is that the iPhone 4 looks pretty sweet too. Both the EVO and iPhone 4 share almost all the same features. EVO has larger screen, iPhone has higher res. Apart from that, whichever environment you like best is the best device.

Anyone else find this funny? http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/

iPhone 4. In so many ways, it's a first.

Then right under it they have video calling... Did they totally ignore phone that was announced to have that feature months before and released days before their site went live? :p

Ah, the moment we've all been waiting for. :D http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-vs-evo-4g-fight/

I have had ATT for 4 years now... maybe 1 dropped call a year..

Sprint is cheap.... but thats what you get CHEAP service

Verizon is NICE but PRICEY!

ATT is the middle man,..

i have had great service always... 3G everywhere I live and work

Just amazing service.. (I have had ATT VERIZON and SPRINT)

ATT WINS HANDS DOWN

im so glad ATT has the Iphone!

Actually its more true with android, because I dont have the OS limitations Iphone has. I dont care what a dev can do with an app, if apple does approve it or if apple does include the functionality in the OS.. then it means nothing....

I can find anything I want to do in the app store... even managing torrents, downloading music, stream my itune/doubletwist... downloading attachments and viewing them by going into my file browser(Which I dl'd)

Unless ofcourse you have multiple Android devices on different OS's. Then your apps might work on one and not the other.

You can keep your torrent apps while I go back to playing Resident Evil 4, checking my corporate database program, renting a movie from itunes, reading my iBooks (so much better than the Kindle app), editing video on the fly.

BTW, doubletwist stinks.

Why dont you try looking for help on an ANDROID forum? This is an iPhone forum, big difference. I am starting to doubt you even own an Evo. Why would you be asking for help here and not an Android forum?

Here is your AT&T in action (well not really) on the new iPhone today. Outstanding network they have!

I have an EVO and iPhone 3gs, I find them pretty much equal, EVO would be better if the battery lasted longer than a few hours. But as for the iPhone 4, with multitasking, great battery life, fast processer and a great camera, I would say the iPhone 4 wins. Therefore im taking my EVO back today, its a great phone but I think I just found better!

You ARE aware they sell extended life batteries right? Not like you are stuck with the one that came in it like your iPhone :) My 1800mah works great. I get 8-10 hours of moderate use in my Evo.

iPhone vs HTC EVO

Let me first start off by saying that I am thoroughly pissed at ATT for their poor service.

For months I was looking forward to having viable options in the smartphone market and the HTC EVO is, on paper, a compelling device with many more features and capabilities than Apple's recently announced next gen iPhone.

So I decided to to to a Sprint store and look at the EVO this past weekend. Initial impressions are: it is bigger than the iphone but that is not an issue; sound quality is better thant an iphone; the screen/video quality is impressive.; the cameras are excellent.; 4G doesn't in my areas of employment (San Jose and San Diego), therefore it is useless. The UE (user experience) from an OS standpoint is 2 generations behind Apple...it just is not snappy and not nearly as intuitive. And the guy at the sprint store got the phone 'stuck' 3 time in 10 minutes....really? And then the guy at the store said, and I quote, "well, it is an emerging platform so there will be issues'. Really? Not the right thing to say to a guy who is already pissed at ATT and their inability to handle EXISTING technology for the past 3 years.

The environment reminds me of Ubuntu vs. OSX. One is for people who have lots of time to tinker and the other is for people what want things to 'just work'.

So my quest for getting rid of ATT from my life continues.

I'm having trouble figuring you out...

First, the guy posted here because he's been here for almost 3 years. He's familiar with MacRumors.

Why do you bother posting in this thread? Judging by your comments earlier, you seem like you don't care for the iPhone... yet you're on an iPhone forum posting this as well.

What it comes down too... you have nothing to add to the conversation.

At that point, might as well carry a laptop

The EVO: objective POV

  • False adervitisement of ClearWire's WiMax as, "4G," and only available in a few markets anyway
  • Made of plastic
  • No IPS or retina display
  • Not the thinnest phone
  • Doesn't have a screen with as high of a resolution
  • No gyroscope
  • No precision machined stainless steel
  • No software comparable to iTunes to manage the phone
  • Android updates are slow, and Flash works so poorly that it shouldn't even been touted as a worth while feature.
Subjective POV: The Evo 4g is an ugly, plastic, brick of a phone with a screen that's way too big and is borderline "mini tablet." No robust app store ecosystem, and there isn't even enough 4G around to even consider calling this thing a "4G," phone. It has a huge, ugly camera that caters to the spec sheet retards who don't understand that image sensor and lens quality mean SO much more than mega pixels.... I don't plan on making book covers and posters out of my pictures, so give me a superior image sensor, and I'll be happy.

Bottom line, they're both great phones; better than anything else on the market, and they both have their minor con's.... otherwise, they're both pretty damn solid. I wouldn't say that either phone blows either one out of water... they're swimming side by side.

can you rent movies on amazon?

Have you tried Resident evil or iBooks on a smallish screen? Ofcourse not, its not available for Android (kind of use to the statement by now).

"No Front Facing Camera"
"No Video Calling"

After reading that I knew you didnt have a frickin CLUE what you were talking about.

Havent played RE but I have read looked at the kindle app.. and its painful to read a book on that screen. But I could see how it would be useful to someone who is a hardcore reader on the go.

I'm not that impressed with the EVO's 1260x720 video. It seems very compressed and somewhat choppy, even in good light.

I know how you feel. I see constant complaints of dropped calls and how AT&T "sucks", but yet, it's perfect for me.

1. WiMax markets will be expanding
2. 3GS was made of plastic, so?
3. Has a 4.3" Display though. For the features you're getting I dont see the thickness being an issue. Especially since the screen is to large the thickness isn't very noticeable.
4. Fairpoint
5. Has front facing camera
6. Has Qik video calling
7. Refer to #2
8. OTA updates work fine. edit: If you are referring to managing apps, then I'd agree.
9. Blame slow updates on HTC, Android it's self is updated way more often than iOS.
