1. WiMax markets will be expanding
2. 3GS was made of plastic, so?
3. Has a 4.3" Display though. For the features you're getting I dont see the thickness being an issue. Especially since the screen is to large the thickness isn't very noticeable.
4. Fairpoint
5. Has front facing camera
6. Has Qik video calling
7. Refer to #2
8. OTA updates work fine
9. Blame slow updates on HTC, Android it's self is updated way more often than iOS.
1. The universe is expanding...3G is expanding....things expand. Sprint's 4G is FAR, very FAR, from complete or robust enough to advertise
2. We're not talking about the 3GS, we're talking about the 4. Plastic, even on the 3GS, is not as appealing as glass/stainless steel.
5 & 6. I've edited my original post
9. Regardless, it's slow.

If you don't like the EVO, I'm sure Verizon will ship an EVO+ in the next week or two. This flood of Android devices with any one of a half a dozen versions of the Android OS is ridiculous. At least with the iPhone, you know you have a solid year before iPhone-envy is forced upon you.

Hey HTC and RIM...build a phone good enough to last at least a year.

DANG IT, I was a fence-sitting, EVO loving, family plan switching consumer until i just saw the iPHone highlights and apple videos

I must say that for the features i care about iPhone wins

I have also priced Sprint over and over because initially the savings to me would be over $100 a month. That is not the case anymore because of Sprint pricing changes for EVO.

I am going to say, right now, i am buying the new iPhone. How could i ever switch and be happy after seeing that thing of beauty.

every droid i have ever used has that rushed to market feel to it. EVO will be no different.

iPhone 4 i am yours.

1. I suppose, however it is available in some markets right now and will be ready to go for future markets as they are available
2. Correct, I was just saying the 3G/3GS were plastic and it wasn't a big issue. iPhone 4 has better build quality though no doubt.
9. Yep :(

Bottom line, they're both great phones; better than anything else on the market, and they both have their minor con's.... otherwise, they're both pretty damn solid. I wouldn't say that either phone blows either one out of water... they're swimming side by side

What is this really? I mean, like really?

Comparing Qik to FaceTime is feckin preposterous. Did you people even watch the videos?

Android in its current form is utter garbage. Both the hardware and software. It might have a feature or two or even 200 that iOS and the iPhone don't have, but the overall experience you get from the device when using it is pretty drat miserable. The only people that believe android phones are good are nerds with spec fetish.

Thisssss.

They both have pros and cons. Its great we have reached a point where people have a choice of a great phone on every carrier.

One of the most noticeable pro's here are the iPhone screen. Really, it must be super sharp at that resolution and that size. i don't think we can see the clearness until we see it in person.

Good comparison here:

The EVO: objective POV

  • False adervitisement of ClearWire's WiMax as, "4G," and only available in a few markets anyway Still better than 3G...
  • Made of plastic As are most phones. This is a fact not a con or anything
  • No IPS or retina display So? iPhone 4 doesn't have a 4.3" display. Who cares if the EVO doesn't have pixels you apparently can't even see. Seems like a waste to me.
  • Not the thinnest phone Still pretty thin.
  • Doesn't have a screen with as high of a resolution Didn't we already cover this?
  • No gyroscope Yes... Because all my time with the 3G really had me dying for a Gyroscope, or even a compass... Who cares? The reason the iPhone 4 is the first phone with a gyroscope is because it's not that big a deal. I don't even have a single app that I need a compass in even.
  • No precision machined stainless steel So what? Who's to say that's better?
  • No software comparable to iTunes to manage the phone DoubleTwist will sync your music. Many people prefer Drag and Drop anyway for their devices
  • Android updates are slow, and Flash works so poorly that it shouldn't even been touted as a worth while feature. The videos I've seen of flash look good enough. Also, better than the iPhone anyway. I suppose you get a kick out of that blue cube? As for updates... Really? HTC Hero came out on Sprint in October with Android 1.5, then 7 months later the 2.1 update came out. How long have I been on 3.x waiting for 4.x? 1 year. Before that from 2.x to 3.x? 1 year. I'd say it's way faster than Apple's release cycle. I don't think it's valid to complain that Android phones wait longer from when you see the new version to when it's usable if it's STILL FASTER than Apple's release cycle.
Subjective POV: The Evo 4g is an ugly, plastic, brick of a phone with a screen that's way too big and is borderline "mini tablet." No robust app store ecosystem, and there isn't even enough 4G around to even consider calling this thing a "4G," phone. It has a huge, ugly camera that caters to the spec sheet retards who don't understand that image sensor and lens quality mean SO much more than mega pixels.... I don't plan on making book covers and posters out of my pictures, so give me a superior image sensor, and I'll be happy.

Bottom line, they're both great phones; better than anything else on the market, and they both have their minor con's.... otherwise, they're both pretty damn solid. I wouldn't say that either phone blows either one out of water... they're swimming side by side.

I did watch the videos. Engadget seems to think that the quality is the same and they've held the two. The EVO has a higher res front facing camera as well which is usable over 3G/4G. Not just wifi.

I know plenty of people with Android phones that are not having "miserable" experiences. And that includes both my parents, in their 50's and my little brother who is not a techie by any means. My parents have the Moment and my brother has the Hero.

Now to my opinions...

iPhone 4 and the EVO 4G are on par with each other. The only real differences are the screens and the operating systems. iPhone 4 has higher res, EVO has larger size. Totally a preference. Nobody is going to care about the mega pixels on the cameras, little differences in ram/proc speed or an extra sensor that is not a part of the average users vocabulary (yes I know what it is).

It's really going to come down to the network and the OS. You like Sprint and have 4G coverage? Cool. You prefer At&t? Cool. You like Android? Cool. You like iOS? Cool.

So that's it. Both phones are cool.

I hope you're not concerned about wifi range. It sucks on my EVO and a lot of others' EVOs.

Safe to know i can still video chat on 3G ;)

haha yeah i saw that Evo issue...hopefully a firmware fix seeing its the same exact wifi adapter thats in the Incredible (which doesn't share this issue).

Logical iPhone 4 vs Evo 4G thoughts

I've seen alot of negatives about the new iPhone all over the interwebz by Android fanbois and Apple nay-sayers. To put things into perspectice, the Evo does have a larger screen and 4G but really has no other advantages over the iPhone 4. The Evo is quite too large to have in your pants pocket going up the stairs with. Also, the screen doesn't even compare to the new iPhone's PPI density and resolution. Android apps and OS aren't as well polished either, but everyone knows this. Another comparison is that the Evo is much thicker and "bloated" if you will. A removable battery doesn't mean much really on the Evo, since some space is wasted to be able to do that by the battery connectors and a removable faceplate, etc, so Apple is smart and builds a bigger battery in and makes it non accessible. Will add more later perhaps.

EVO is on Sprint.

Sprint is not even a real cell phone carrier.

I don't know how you could even begin to make such a comparison...

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, they all have their good and bad places, Sprint sucks every where. The only reason they had any customers is because they gave their service away for almost free. As soon as they stopped doing that, their customers started running away.

Thats funny... Really funny... And baseless.

Im trying the EVO right now for 30 days, and so far my coverage is far better than AT&T was for me around eastern PA, and just a smidge below Verizons coverage on the Droid.

Ill probably be sticking with the EVO. Its a far better phone, sorry to burst your bubble.

You are an idiot. How does Steve Jobs taste?

The only people who enjoy and appreciate Android are those who aren't drinking the Koolaid. Those of us who enjoy freedom to do as we like. Of course, no Apple fanboy will debate anything because a) they don't know squat about anything other than iPhones, b) as long as they pretend nothing better exists... nothing better exists, and c) they are all sheep.

How far did Steve get before you told him to stop and had to take a drink of water?

Over 46 million people can get 4G right now with another 80 million being covered by the end of the year. Few markets my a**

Who cares about a higher res display on a screen 8 inches smaller? Thats like buying a 19 inch 1080 HDTV

Android updates are slow? LMAO!! Android has had 5 major updates in the same time iPhone has had 2

Please get a clue.

You're seriously going to try and use facts with these guys? They are just going to close their eyes, cover their ears and claim otherwise.

How tight are your pants? The Evo fits in mine just fine :) Screen doesnt compare? I am sorry but a 960x640 display is wasted on a screen thats only 3.5 inches. Thats like buying a 19 inch 1080 HDTV. I would MUCH rather have a screen 8 inches bigger and 800x480 isnt much lower res. Android isnt as well polished because its newer but 2.2 is awesome and the appeal of Android is its widgets and customization. You will never ask to see anyones iPhone because guess what? They all look the same! Boring black background with button icons you press to get to a program. Oh, and you can only download apps that your daddy Mr. Jobs feels you should have, no thanks. Its not just a removable battery, its the ability to swap in a larger capacity one like I did. Not to mention the ability to swap in more memory as well.

How many android users out there ACTUALLY have the latest android version? Let me guess, still waiting for the update from their carrier?

It is funny watching android fans bashing the new iPhone screen, when just a few months ago they were pumping their fists about how the nexus one kicksass because its screen is better than that of the iPhone.

The only thing keeping me from buying an iphone 4 is AT&T's network and no unlimited data. Been there done that with the iphone 2G, never again.

I'm switching to sprint as soon as my verizon contract is up, verizon's pricing is just ridiculous, and their desire to lock down every phone on the network puzzles me.

I'm not going to get involved in your domestic issues about mobile phone networks - totally irrelevant for those of us who don't live in the US.
However, you have seriously missed the point about the resolution/pixel density of the iPhone 4. The higher pixel density is a major selling point.
