LOL Iphone 4 vs EVO http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-vs-evo-4g-fight/ this makes the EVO look like a purchase for me. Come tomorrow I'm getting me an EVO.
1. The universe is expanding...3G is expanding....things expand. Sprint's 4G is FAR, very FAR, from complete or robust enough to advertise1. WiMax markets will be expanding
2. 3GS was made of plastic, so?
3. Has a 4.3" Display though. For the features you're getting I dont see the thickness being an issue. Especially since the screen is to large the thickness isn't very noticeable.
4. Fairpoint
5. Has front facing camera
6. Has Qik video calling
7. Refer to #2
8. OTA updates work fine
9. Blame slow updates on HTC, Android it's self is updated way more often than iOS.
iPhone 4 would be lucky to blow the Evo.
When in reality, it's playing catchup. It's sad how many people are like sheep and would swallow Steve Job's if given the chance.
If you don't like the EVO, I'm sure Verizon will ship an EVO+ in the next week or two. This flood of Android devices with any one of a half a dozen versions of the Android OS is ridiculous. At least with the iPhone, you know you have a solid year before iPhone-envy is forced upon you.

2. We're not talking about the 3GS, we're talking about the 4. Plastic, even on the 3GS, is not as appealing as glass/stainless steel.
5 & 6. I've edited my original post
9. Regardless, it's slow.
1. I suppose, however it is available in some markets right now and will be ready to go for future markets as they are available
2. Correct, I was just saying the 3G/3GS were plastic and it wasn't a big issue. iPhone 4 has better build quality though no doubt.
9. Yep![]()

Bottom line, they're both great phones; better than anything else on the market, and they both have their minor con's.... otherwise, they're both pretty damn solid. I wouldn't say that either phone blows either one out of water... they're swimming side by side
The EVO: objective POV
Subjective POV: The Evo 4g is an ugly, plastic, brick of a phone with a screen that's way too big and is borderline "mini tablet." No robust app store ecosystem, and there isn't even enough 4G around to even consider calling this thing a "4G," phone. It has a huge, ugly camera that caters to the spec sheet retards who don't understand that image sensor and lens quality mean SO much more than mega pixels.... I don't plan on making book covers and posters out of my pictures, so give me a superior image sensor, and I'll be happy.
- False adervitisement of ClearWire's WiMax as, "4G," and only available in a few markets anyway Still better than 3G...
- Made of plastic As are most phones. This is a fact not a con or anything
- No IPS or retina display So? iPhone 4 doesn't have a 4.3" display. Who cares if the EVO doesn't have pixels you apparently can't even see. Seems like a waste to me.
- Not the thinnest phone Still pretty thin.
- Doesn't have a screen with as high of a resolution Didn't we already cover this?
- No gyroscope Yes... Because all my time with the 3G really had me dying for a Gyroscope, or even a compass...
Who cares? The reason the iPhone 4 is the first phone with a gyroscope is because it's not that big a deal. I don't even have a single app that I need a compass in even.
- No precision machined stainless steel So what? Who's to say that's better?
- No software comparable to iTunes to manage the phone DoubleTwist will sync your music. Many people prefer Drag and Drop anyway for their devices
- Android updates are slow, and Flash works so poorly that it shouldn't even been touted as a worth while feature. The videos I've seen of flash look good enough. Also, better than the iPhone anyway. I suppose you get a kick out of that blue cube? As for updates... Really? HTC Hero came out on Sprint in October with Android 1.5, then 7 months later the 2.1 update came out. How long have I been on 3.x waiting for 4.x? 1 year. Before that from 2.x to 3.x? 1 year. I'd say it's way faster than Apple's release cycle. I don't think it's valid to complain that Android phones wait longer from when you see the new version to when it's usable if it's STILL FASTER than Apple's release cycle.
Bottom line, they're both great phones; better than anything else on the market, and they both have their minor con's.... otherwise, they're both pretty damn solid. I wouldn't say that either phone blows either one out of water... they're swimming side by side.
What is this really? I mean, like really?
Comparing Qik to FaceTime is feckin preposterous. Did you people even watch the videos?
Android in its current form is utter garbage. Both the hardware and software. It might have a feature or two or even 200 that iOS and the iPhone don't have, but the overall experience you get from the device when using it is pretty drat miserable. The only people that believe android phones are good are nerds with spec fetish.
I hope you're not concerned about wifi range. It sucks on my EVO and a lot of others' EVOs.
EVO is on Sprint.
Sprint is not even a real cell phone carrier.
I don't know how you could even begin to make such a comparison...
AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, they all have their good and bad places, Sprint sucks every where. The only reason they had any customers is because they gave their service away for almost free. As soon as they stopped doing that, their customers started running away.

At that point, might as well carry a laptop

Over 46 million people can get 4G right now with another 80 million being covered by the end of the year. Few markets my a**
Who cares about a higher res display on a screen 8 inches smaller? Thats like buying a 19 inch 1080 HDTV
Android updates are slow? LMAO!! Android has had 5 major updates in the same time iPhone has had 2
Please get a clue.
I've seen alot of negatives about the new iPhone all over the interwebz by Android fanbois and Apple nay-sayers. To put things into perspectice, the Evo does have a larger screen and 4G but really has no other advantages over the iPhone 4. The Evo is quite too large to have in your pants pocket going up the stairs with. Also, the screen doesn't even compare to the new iPhone's PPI density and resolution. Android apps and OS aren't as well polished either, but everyone knows this. Another comparison is that the Evo is much thicker and "bloated" if you will. A removable battery doesn't mean much really on the Evo, since some space is wasted to be able to do that by the battery connectors and a removable faceplate, etc, so Apple is smart and builds a bigger battery in and makes it non accessible. Will add more later perhaps.

I'm not going to get involved in your domestic issues about mobile phone networks - totally irrelevant for those of us who don't live in the US.Over 46 million people can get 4G right now with another 80 million being covered by the end of the year. Few markets my a**
