3. Wish the battery lasted longer. With mixed use, I get about 5 hours. Since it's removable, I suppose you can get a second battery and have them both charged up and ready for a long day -- a tactic I used with the Sprint 4G Overdrive portable hotspot.
I had the same problem with my battery life on the Evo, As a matter of fact I was getting even less than that. That is until I did a couple fixes. One, a cdma fix and the other an HTC battery fix. Both can be found on andriodforums.com in the Evo forum.

Now my battery life is MUCH MUCH better. Heavy use through 8 hours and still 30% battery to spare.

FROYO is amazing too.

Not going to reply to everything:

- Quality over quantity, 1 update a year and it's still just as good.

Is it? The iPhone just barely got native MMS and copy/paste last year and FINALLY multitasking this year. Its 2010, most phones have been doing these things since 2004. Yea, yearly upgrades are fantastic, you finally caught up to 2004!

How's copy/paste on Android working out? It's awful, and the Sense implementation isn't much better.

Why are you here? All these topics have been discussed to death. Either contribute something to Macrumors (besides beating dead horses) or just go to androidcentral.

Right, so Apple was late to that game, and I know it. So now iOS has MMS/Copy&Paste/Multitasking. I guess now would be a good time to back it, wouldn't you say?

Also, how about the other points I've made?

ummmm, its just like my iPad. You hold your finger down over text and a box pops up with sliders. You can then drag over words, sentences or paragraphs. Then you can copy it, get the Wikipedia search or translate it or share it. Works great, thanks!

Depends on you and your needs. Technology changes very fast and Apple has been playing catch up for years with their outdated OS. When I got my iPad, I was shocked at how archaic it was and how much I couldnt do that I could on my Hero and now Evo. So it depends on how badly you want the newest available tech on your phone. You know how many advancements there will be before next June when your next OS comes out? A ton. Even then, you wont be guaranteed Apple will implement it. I prefer to be slightly ahead of the curve or right there with it, not years behind.

It's a good point, but I'm having the feeling that since Apple is more or less (subjectively) 'caught up' in the basic feature department, that it's only got improvements to come. Better notification system for example. I'd imagine (well, in Apple's case, hope) that it will come in a point update, say 4.2. What is the next step for the iOS that would take it ahead of the curve? And I mean major things.

The iPad isn't any different from an iPod Touch/iPhone, but it's got a larger screen, and it's the applications that come with that screen that make it special. It's unfortunate that you had to buy the iPad to realise this.

Hmmm, I guess I was mistaken on how Sense deals with it. In any case, it's terrible on normal Android devices. That I know; I have my Nexus One right next to me.

Besides, the whole point of this is the following: You keep claiming how outdated the iPhone and iPhone OS are, how the EVO is so much better, and how it's "not even close". Yet, for all your rhetoric, millions still choose the iPhone. Sure, you could take the easy way out and say that people are just swayed by brand image and what's popular, but the reality is something else: The iPhone just works for some people better than Android does. And it's not just grandmas. I much prefer the iPhone to Android, and I'm a young guy who loves technology, not some older person who types in web addresses in the google search bar. Your posts in this thread demonstrate a complete lack of understanding that other people just have different priorities and requirements for their phones than you think they should have. Many of these people prefer the iPhone.

So what are you going to do? Realize some people have different, legitimate tastes or, the far more likely scenario, keep repeating the same tired list of specs that the EVO has?

Good points and you are right, all comes down to what fits your needs. You are right, its not grandmas. Most iPhone users are young and just see cool apps and go crazy. For them, it works. Someone like me whos mid 30s and uses my phone for business and a ton of things needs a more powerful device. Something with multitasking and all the other things I can do without fussing with hacking or having to download and install additional apps. I prefer the functionality of Android.

No, from what I understand, you can sync with google for contacts.

Oh found this video just now comparing the Iphone 4G vs EVO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWTZ6JevDvM&feature=related

I think it is easy to say the EVO is sexier. :D

people are missing the point... 3g sucks, and EVO does flash. With evo, you have an overdrive wifi hot spot for 8 perople on 4g. You can use this with your mbp or ipad.... heck get an ipod touch if you still want iphone with this.
I have been an iphone user since day one, and am making the swap back to sprint

Sprint has already said they will not remove the native tethering from Froyo. You should try reading up on things more :)

Yep sprint did say that but if there are a whole bunch of people using the tethering option to replace their home internet connection and running torrents, etc. Then sprint will change that decsion.

Nothing with any wireless provider is written in stone. To quote dan hesse "One can never say never"

Edit: I give up. This thread turned pointless. Nothing but fanboys trying to defend THEIR purchases but can't accept OTHER'S for what they purchased. Grow up people...

I have a 27" iMac, 13" MacBook Pro, iPhone 3G, and iPad. I've been using Macs for 15 years, and I've stood in line half a day on two occasions to get an iPhone. I've only had an Android since last Monday. So, I don't see how I could possibly fall into the Android fanboy camp. I'm usually the one being accused of being an Apple fanboy, and was repeatedly accused of such over my purchase of the iPad.

The iPhone just works for some people better than Android does.

Well, I for one completely understand that. Everyone has different things they prefer. The Evo is a very large phone, and it is perfectly understandable that not everyone wants to carry around something this huge, and the iPhone 4 will have a great screen in lighter and smaller package. (The Incredible is more comparable to the iPhone size.) But it is annoying how people keep touting the iPhone 4 as being a game changer, when it brought nothing new to the table that I needed in a phone, and it left out the things that I do need, which Android does. What are those things?

1) Notification system, including led notification light
2) Buttons on the phone (this is very nice, and it feels constricting on the iPhone now to just have the one)
3) Large screen size (ok, some prefer smaller, but you only have one choice on the iPhone, and I want bigger)
4) Widgets

The list could go on, but the icing on the cake was the sexy hardware and beautiful screen on the Evo. It isn't as high resolution screen as the iPhone 4, but it blows away the iPhone 3G I've had for two years, so it's a huge improvement over what I've been using.

The iPhone 4 will, no doubt, be a great phone. I had really hoped that Apple would introduce some of the things that Android had that I wanted, and if they had, I probably would have stuck with the iPhone. But after using Android for a week, I couldn't go back now. I'd miss those features I love about Android that the iPhone doesn't do, and it's nice to have the option of a larger screen. There is no phone that is a do it all, perfect for everyone phone, but it's nice that there are several worthy choices for us to choose from today. I just wish people would stop pretending like the iPhone 4 set a new bar, when all it did was make the old bar more shiny.

One of the biggest signs of a fanboy is illogical arguments without base.

Please stop criticizing Android for releasing updates. They release them more often than Apple and I think they are more feature full. Come on, where you really impressed with MMS 2 years in? CCP was good, but another thing that could have been there had they taken the time to develop a proper OS.

The new feature of iOS4 would be great... if they worked well. I'm running the GM (for those that don't know, Gold Master is what a company decides is good enough for consumers and will release AS IS if no problems arise) and it is crap. I get emails and go to view them and the indicator is there but there are no unread emails. The To and From headers for threaded emails turn into random numbers. Usually 0 or some long number. From your Unified Inbox, there is no way to see what inbox an email came from without checking the address in the To line for yourself.

Folders, could have been good. They are slow as heck on an iPhone 3G. At least a full second delay between tapping them and them opening. And whats with holding only 12 items? I have more games then that. Now I have 4 Folders named Games.

I jailbroke it because Apple wanted to sell me a 3Gs instead of giving me "multitasking". I'll tell you what, this sucks. I haven't seen any apps that take advantage of the new APIs, but the "improved save state" is not improved. Every time I switch between apps using the launcher they totally boot up from the start again.

My point is... Yes, this is an improvement over OS3.x. The features are good to have and will likely be cleaned up eventually. Just claiming that Apple is better at it than Google is false. All software has bugs and there are always better ways to do things.

Things I like about the EVO more than the iPhone 4:
Sprint, I don't like the number of dropped calls I get with AT&T and the price I'm paying
Larger screen, I want to set the screen up on a stationary bike or treadmill and watch while I run. I also want to comfortably use it to write longer emails.
Android OS Updates, as I said they are the same quality but I get bored quickly and need updates to keep me entertained. I'll likely be rooted and update often.
4G, I live in DC and will have coverage. I realize this isn't for everyone.
Google Voice integration

Lastly, it's something different. I'm getting bored of the iPhone and iOS is still the same old.

Things I like about the iPhone 4 over the EVO:
The reviews about the screen make it sound AMAZING! It would really be something to have. I really do wish it was bigger too, then I think I'd probably stick with the iPhone.
App Store, I know the Android Market has most apps I want, but still not like the App Store. AM is a good replacement, but not the same.
Gyroscope could potentially lead to some cool games, but I don't see many other places for its implementation. Maybe I'll be surprised!

Other than that, the two phones are a wash to me.

As for Video Chat on both, FaceTime looks cool! Android already has a couple options for the EVO to use though and if/once Apple follows through with making FaceTime an open standard, I'm sure we'll see a version on Android that will even work with the iPhone. Much more likely than seeing an iPhone version that works with Android.

These are just my opinions anyway. It's going to be a preference thing. To be honest... I want BOTH! :) That's why I'm happy that Apple has the iPod Touch. Hopefully the next version has the same screen as the iPhone 4.

Um, I just want to point out one thing on this part of your arguement. You are judging this based on a phone that Apple didn't support multi-tasking cause they specifically said the phone was not capable enough to support it well.

Test it on a phone that Apple has made claims it runs well and then get back to us. Apple already outright said it wouldn't work well on the 3G and that is why *it*is*not*supported* on it. So all you are doing is proving Apple correct (and proving they should keep it disabled on the 3G as apparently even those who claim they are in the know will judge the iphone as a whole and features on a hardware that can't run it well).

Get back to us when you get to see it run on the 3GS or 4 and tell us how well it works. Til then, you're not really making much of a fair comparison here as you are judging it by hardware that was specifically said could not support it well.

Choice is clear, no wonder Steve J is pissed at google, the iphone was suppose to shock the world but instead came out as a clear clone of EVO and less powerful with less applications

That's irrelevant. All I'm trying to say is that apps that don't use the new APIs are functioning exactly like the used to. I didn't say that Apps were crashing because of any lack of RAM. The boot times for switching to an app is the same as launching the app. However fast that launches for you from springboard is how fast it'll switch. It's not an improvement of any kind. Most people think of multitasking as the ability to launch apps and switch back to them without waiting for them to boot. The functionality didn't change for me because I have a 3G.

There's now fast app switching that saves the exact state of the program and a task manager that can be called up that doesn't necessitate going back to the home screen. It will also launch way faster once devs implement that fast app switching, which you can bet 99% of them will since it's so easy. It will be a lot better.

even better post

My post wasn't meant to be informative, just a suggestion to look at the thread. Every single point you raise has been raised at least 10 times in this thread. We all acknowledge those points and yet some of us are still choosing iPhone. You people just come in and say the same tired crap over and over.

Now you mentioned that you were running iOS 4.0 right? The apps have to be rewritten to take advantage of the multitasking.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-gb; Nexus One Build/FRF50) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

I don't think we'll really be seeing many iOS4 multitasking apps until it is finally released will we? It's a bit too soon to be criticizing iOS4 until we can see what it can do for real.

The only poor thing I can think of is apps that have been removed from the app store before iOS4 will never be able to take advantage of multitasking.

I cannot believe people fight over their electronic purchases. There is nothing any of these phones do all that differently than the other one. Some features work better than others, and carrier experience is a non-starter. No two coverage areas are alike.

All I'm reading are a bunch of folks trying to justify their money when no one has asked them to "prove" anything. And before anyone accuses me of being a fanboy one way or another, in the past two years I have owned:

3Gs
Storm
G1
Pre

There were features in all ofthose phones I loved. I went back to Apple because ultimately it does what I need it to do in a way that I prefer.

I cannot believe people fight over their electronic purchases. ... All I'm reading are a bunch of folks trying to justify their money when no one has asked them to "prove" anything.

Eh, we fight over much more than just electronics. Have you read the Community Discussions?

Now you mentioned that you were running iOS 4.0 right? The apps have to be rewritten to take advantage of the multitasking.

Yea, I didn't say anything about them not starting up with the state saved. That's the only thing that's left to be implemented. The app process is still going to be totally killed and re-initialized again.

I fully understand how it works and what needs to be done. If an app is not using any of the new API pillars, like for VOIP, Music or whatever, it's not going to be much different. That's all.

You can't be serious can you? You say that you don't have to hack or install additional apps and just before that you posted how you rooted and put Froyo on your phone? ARE YOU SERIOUS? I thought there was no hacking or installing additional things? Do you understand how stupid this makes you look?

Also, what kind of business do you work for?

True. Yes, thats just for starters. If we want to go in depth looking at advantages of one over the other, lets start. These are just off the top of my head too. Feel free to add to the list.

Evo advantages over iPhone

4G
Flash
Google maps with navigation
No cap on 4G data (2GB max on AT&T's 3G)
Notification system
Widgets
Live wallpapers
Hotspot for 8 other devices
Free tethering (Froyo)
Speech to text on every keyboard screen
Video chat over 3G/4G (Wifi only for iPhone)
Screen size
Open and fully customizable OS
Removable memory
Removable battery
Double the RAM (256MB vs 512MB)
HDMI out

...while the only iPhone pros over the Evo are...

Apps
Syncing
Smoother interface (debatable)
and more accessories?

Not even close :)
Ahahahahaha, you're reading the specifications list off like it actually has something to do with the USER EXPERIENCE, which is why people buy phones. Definitely a true nerd (hey, I'm one too!).

Also, can you make a video of flash on the EVO? I am curious about it.
