that's not "choppiness" it's the Evo formatting the text. I can't believe you guys are trying to make something out of formatting of the text and calling it "choppiness".
I didn't say it wasn't doing something, but it certainly is in no way as smooth as the iPhone pinching and zooming. You can explain it any way you want, but the complaint was that it is choppy and it certainly is.

The Iphone does not scroll smoother. What you are seeing is the Iphone scrolling at a slower rate. I change my Home launcher on my EVO to "Launcher" and the scrolling moves slow just like the Iphone which makes it look smooth.

Nope. The framerate is lower on both the EVO and the N1. I've used both extensively. It's just not as smooth.

OK if you say so. I have the EVO in my hand and a Iphone so I know what I'm seeing.

My Evo is pretty smooth in everything it does. Once I get rid of Sense completely, it will be even faster then how it is now :)

Like i said, prove that its better. It's more to a web page that just loading up, if you can't move display around, then its all pointless.

better is subjective. it does seems strange to me however that u think that being able to scroll a blank web page is "better" than being able to scroll fully loaded webpage at lower framerate

no, he's absolutely correct. iphone scrolling and animations are at a much higher framerate, so everything looks smoother. I own an N1 and 3G. Android appears to be 30fps and iphone 60fps

making another video with my Evo right now showing flash sites and will show pinching and zooming in the browser again...

This has been a reported software error on HTC's part. For some reason they have capped the FPS at 30. The Nexus 1, with same processor can do 60. It will be fixed in a firmware update. Having said that I just watched the new mortal combat trailer on youtube in HQ and it was awesome on the EVO

Well, it's just like saying that jumping from page to page is choppy compared to scrolling. Of course it is - by design. That's what normal (i.e. educated) users want - not the magical albeit useless smoothness. EVO reformats the text thus minimizing the need to scrolling and improving user experience (not to mention the bigger screen that makes scrolling less necessary still). It's very easy to implement smooth scrolling of the still picture. It's more difficult to come up with something better than that and that's what Android does.

First, only EVO suffers from the 30fps framerate cap. This was acknowledged by HTC and will be fixed soon (link). What you see on both EVO and N1 has nothing to do with the frame rate and has to do with the way Android reformats the pages on the fly (the feature missing on iPhone). From what I read on the internet most iPhone users who saw what Android does recognized it as a better behavior. Because with 3.5" screen, they get tired of scrolling very fast.

Make sure to go to some with flash advertisements and scroll up and down. I saw that video where it sucked but I heard that it may have been a bug.

I did. Both Phonedog and Droidog have all kinds of flash ads with animation right on the main page.

Also swapped as fast as I could between all the screens and in the apps drawer too where some people have claimed it lags :)

Thanks for taking the time to post the video! Hows the video quality on flash movies, like the wachovia video you demoed? Choppy? I couldn't really tell.

Welcome. Its not bad quality at all. The first couple seconds of it lagged briefly as it was fully loading the clip, the other one did too. Once it loads it catches up and plays fine though.

Good to know. As a self proclaimed apple fanboy I was impressed with that video:eek:

I watched the video and now know why the evo seems so different than the iPhone. The zooming etc has no inertia. With the iPhone how you touch is with the force you use continues after your fingers leave the screen and it bounces back or moves in a way as if you touching water.

Here is the video showing the Evo pinching and zooming in the browser, flash websites and swiping between screen and scrolling thru apps :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyA2EkkH5o0

"i see no stutter or jerking around"....

1:45 seems to be a good spot of chop. Frame rate is smooth smooth, the small jerk, smooth smooth.

1:28 to 1:31 - i see it as well. It's there, anyone that has used an iphone for 3 years can see it.

Look carefully through the whole thing, You can see it the being choppy.
------------------------------------------thanks for posting the video ------------------------------------------

That said, it's better than on my browser so my question is what browser are you running? Dolphin HD?

and where did you get swype....I have been looking for it on the EVO.

Dude, you are REALLY stretching there, alot...My iPad is a bit smoother but its also not reformatting text. Its the default browser and I got Swype from XDA.

I just recorded myself doing it. I cleared all apps to make sure the memory was free and I get even more choppiness then yours (although it's been better than i usually). I can clear tell and the reformatting of text IS annoying. For the android being all and powerful, can't you turn that off? I found that rather ironic that you can do everything to the phone but that.

I uploaded a video to youtube (i've never done this before so when its ready, i'll post it)

edit:
here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aGslw2lsWM

I used dolphin because to be honest...i don't know how to use the android default....everytime i press internet, it picks the dolphin HD. I personally don't care either way too much. I like the android OS as much as the Iphone (it's ppprreeetttyyy) and other than the battery life (it fits alot of my needs, wish sprints data rate was faster in 3g) but Sorry that I'm anal, but i can see a difference. This seems to be a software issue, not the hardware but we all knew that.

New Iphone preordered. Black, 32GB, waterproof case (for motorbike riding), car charger. $344 plus about $48/mo (with my gov't discount on services).

Now I'm a happy camper.

( I couldn't help but notice news stories about some ppl having to charge their Evo 2x per day due to abysmal battery life lol)

Man, i can't even get through. It keeps saying Session Timed out. I guess I'll just walk into the store on that day.

I expect you will have to wait in line at the stores for the first couple of days and have to listen to the poor clerk having to explain over and over to each customer all the various phone/data plans.

Might want to keep trying the web site lol. You can also go to Apples site.

Well i NEED to see the phone before july 2nd. (the day my sprint 30 day trial is over). I need to play with the phone ( have iOS4 for my iphone 3GS) but what going to get me away from the and the fantastic 4.3 inch screen is

1) pictures (how good is it really?)
2) video (30FPS vs 24fps can make a difference)
3) the screen...oh that screen.

I was thinking of just preordering it and deciding then...
