Responses to my comments exploded a bit
I was really trying to just give a brief description of my use of the EVO, not trash it. It has impressive specs, but many, many, many features that I will NEVER USE. HDMI out, seriously? I have other media options that are much more robust than my mobile phone.
On the stuttering UI, if it floats your boat to have your OS have more features, cramming them in and causing the processor to deliver a less than smooth overall experience, then great. You'll love the EVO. I don't need Safari to stutter and reformat text. I need it to be smooth and clean. And, the overwhelming majority of users (commoners that don't chat on MR) want a simple, clean interface that is smooth and doesn't offer a ton of features that won't ever be used. That was one of the beautiful things about the original iPhone: It does the critical things great, and simply. It doesn't require a manual; it doesn't take a PhD to use. It also expanded capability of phones far beyond previously done and made them mainstream features.
Fast forward to today and now there are huge competitors to the iPhone that include great features and specs. But they also fall into the trap of usability (and lack thereof). Not that they aren't usable, or even fairly easy to figure out, but it is the little things like a smooth interface, hypersensitive and accurate touchscreen, intuitive features that the masses want that really make the difference and will be (in my opinion) what keeps the iPhone ahead of the competition.
I like quite a few things about android, but I don't have any desire to switch because the iPhone 3G fills all of my needs, and the iPhone 4 fills my needs and my wants for a faster overall experience.
EVO owners, please enjoy your phones. It is a beautiful device that I am sure will get better. It just isn't for me.
