Yeah, the lack of voice+data is also a showstopper for me.

I use that feature far, far too often to just give it up.

+1

I'm not giving that up EVER. So that means if I leave AT&T it'll have to be for a phone support LTE or WIMAX (not sure if they do voice+data though)

Welcome, you won't miss the iPhone one bit :D And these phones only get better the more you get used to them.

The only downside is that the Android Market has roughly a quarter of the apps that the App Store has, but there's less repeated/reskinned apps, and less crap like fart apps so it's all good

In general, the apps on the market are not nearly as complete as their iPhone counterparts. The app store is where most of the money is so more dollars for development go to that.

There are also really stupid apps on the market but i do agree with the android supporters here: it's not about the number of apps. 200k is no different than 50k to most people. I just care about whether my average needs are met and they're of high quality.

Yes, in my past 3 days of using both phones, the speeds seem similar enough that I don't notice a difference. The plan prices are similar. I don't use the phone much, so I went with the 450 min plan (in both cases), which for both iPhone 3GS and HTC Incredible comes to the same $40 per month phone plus $30 per month data.

As for lack of voice and data at the same time, that's something I never use on iPhone (I don't use a headset, so when I'm on the phone, it's held to my ear).

kdarling, as a new HTC Incredible user, you may want to check out (and contribute to) this list of tips.

Thanks for the extra information, I think im gonna jump ship given the leaked iPhone specs.

The Incredible looks like a great phone but AT&T and Verizon service are practically identical where I live. And with AT&T having better rates, even though I'd like to, I wouldn't make the switch.

The problem I have read about 3G on CDMA is that the voice and data uses the same antenna so you can't do voice and data at the same time. The great thing about the EVO coming out and 4G in general is that it uses a different antenna so you can do voice and data. The EVO will be able to do voice and data IF you are in a 4G area.

After reading this, I felt compelled to do some side-by-side testing instead of just giving you my general impressions :). I know that ATT 3G is rated as faster than Verizon 3G. In my hands, in my house, using 3G only (no Wifi, both phones with browsers reset/empty cache, etc), the Incredible finished loading relatively large pages (Engadget, Gizmodo, etc) a couple seconds earlier than the iPhone 3GS. Of course YMMV, but both ATT and Verizon have good coverage where I live.

I couldn't comment on the iPhone equivalents as I haven't had an iPhone for a while, but most of the apps seem fully featured to me!

My younger brother is probably going to switch. He is on the fence right now though. We shall see.

I am going to wait and see what Apple reveals. If it's nothing substantial, then I might switch back to Verizon. I don't know. I like having the data+voice at the same time. I too have gotten used to that feature and use it quite often. I would miss it on Verizon.

I just don't know. I know that if Apple gives something new and refreshing to us this year and it meets my needs, I will be happy.

Coverage is not the issue here either, However I live in new york so thats where the major issue are. Over congestion and faulty layout plague the area yielding call failed and drop of service back to full rinse and repeat. Based on what you see right now do you plan on keeping your htc incredible after the trial period and ditch the iphone? I might do the 14 day trial just to see how service is at my house. Thanks for all your help m8 i appreciate it.

.

Why wouldn't you go to the EVO on Sprint and have data+voice at the same time for a lower monthly cost?

Because Sprint and T-Mobile are the two WORST carriers where I am. Might as well not even have a phone. Sprint also does NOT have 4G in the state. It's only 3G. So it would be a waste.

Has Sprint confirmed that yet? Last I heard, they were testing voice + 4G, but hadn't promised it.

On my WM phones, I've used Skype to get voice + data on Verizon. So I just tried that on the Incredible, but it won't fly.

It seems that Verizon has made sure that the latest Skype phone versions use the voice line when calling within the USA. E.g. I call my Skype id from a laptop and it's routed over the Internet through Atlanta to the phone as a voice call... not as a data call like it used to. Drat.

Sprint used to be bad, but it has upgraded quite a bit. Four years ago when my wife was with them, drop calls were horrible. Now her inlaws are with them and never get a dropped call. Sprint lets you use Verizon towers so it's having Verizon and Sprint coverage combined for voice. You should check out their coverage map.

14-day trial is the way to go. I'm still figuring out new, basic things that improved the HTC Incredible user experience (like the fact that tap and hold, rather than double tap, takes a picture). However, I decided on day 2 that I am keeping the Incredible. The iPhone service will be canceled soon, early termination fee paid (prorated, so not very high), and my kids will be using it as an iPod Touch for games, etc.

Part of my reason for switching is that I like to try new things. The iPhone is neatly packaged with everything self-evident. The Incredible has lots to tinker with, customize, and setup. That's all part of the fun for me. I'm no doubt biased by my dislike for Apple's various rejections of software from their app store. We all have our biases, though, and I am in no way anti-Apple. Still love my Macs and will be happy to move back to iPhone if and when they make a phone I like better.

Amin out of all the Android discussions your is the most cogent I've read. Phones are subjective decision and I think sometimes people get caught up in the bits and bytes but when it comes down to it the only question you really need to ask yourself is "do I like doing things on this phone?"

Nuff said.

Some people think there's no porn on the iPhone and use it as a reason not to have flash. Oh well.

Sense...you make none of it. Everyone and their moms know Steve Jobs was referring to the app store and not the internet.

But you conspiracy theorists and spin doctors can stick to your crazy ways.

Conspiracy theorists, spin doctors? What are you talking about?
