I still like the other icons more, with the silver background.

Glad to see you working on the forums! :) I assume there is scrolling up and down to see more forums ? iPhone, iPad, MBP, iMac etc?? Because I'm telling your right now all of those forums you have shown on your screen there... I never ever go to (save this particular thread). Which reminds me, subscribed forums are very important!

Also the "favorite" tab on the bottom. Is that for particular articles that you save to read later?? Because I don't really see too much use for that... Is there some sort of favorites feature on MR that I'm unaware of?

I like your updated logo a lot better Saladinos, and the updated forums look a lot better also.

The forums UI is something I threw together to test the concept. I haven't even managed to get arn to approve the app.

Right now only board-level is implemented at all. Still lots to do for a satisfactory forums experience. Subscribed threads could probably squeeze in the favourites tab.

There's a load of awesome things we can do with this app, I'm just trying to get approval for anything at all. It's really extremely frustrating having done this much already. Until we get approval from arn, lots of awesome features have to hold.

i wonder if you should ask Arn if you can go through another contact? Doc Q/WCB or somebody? they are "up there".

But surely you have some sway? I mean there has to be a way to get this approval process moving faster. I think it is utterly absurd that an Apple rumors site as popular as MacRumors doesn't have and won't allow an app on the iphone....

Unless arn gives the ability for direct access to the data behind MR for the front page and forums, any iPhone/iPad/etc app will not bring a much better experience. All you can do is scrape the HTML and parse a few bits of RSS which is unstable, slow, and high maintenance.

The one part of MR that is semi-exposed is forum spy which runs off an XML file. But spy on the iPhone I imagine wouldn't be the greatest experience. On the iPad it might be nice.

Also if arn were to release an app he probably wants to make sure it stays updated, and that's hard to do if you've got someone just contributing to the source for free.

I've mentioned it before here, but the best solution IMO is for a better mobile front page and forums. This way you're not limited to iOS. I wouldn't be surprised if this is already in the works with the new front page re-design.

It's up to arn, not me or the other forum administrators. Like the rest of you we'll see what he decides.
yeh i know. was just inquiring because i know that Arn was giving the site a bit more "independence" etc.

arn really doesn't seem to care a lot about all the hard Saladinos has done...
im not sure what other projects he is into, but ive tried to get some support from Arn as well and was not very successful. it was all for the MacRumors site and the MacRumors community, yet he still didnt have 5 mins to discuss it.

so even you gods do not know? thats unfortunate. given the success of the iOS these days i would think that its HIGHLY important to try to get our site as compatible with it as possible - and ALSO have another forum "mode" for the other mobile devices. currently, using wap.macrumors.com is highly minimal. it works but is hardly bearable.

Well, the best thing would of course be if arn just gave the community access to the raw data behind MacRumors. (I absolutely don't see this happening, though).

Anyway, I still vote for making the project open-source after Saladinos sells it. There aren't that many people with a dev license on the board, so I don't think that even if all of them strip out the ads it will make a big difference. With the entire community being able to help, I don't think keeping the app up to date would be a huge problem.

HTML parsing is not slow or high maintenance. HTML is a structured file format, and retrieving information is quick and can be very robust.

I can tell you this: navigating around the app is much faster than navigating around the site.

I'd imagine that being limited to iOS isn't extremely meaningful to this site. If you were doing something else, like Engadget, then maybe. You'd expect this site to have an optimum experience on iOS, but even then - it doesn't. Being a native app gives us lots of benefits (although they need some support from the staff to happen...).

I'm finding it really difficult to contact arn. Can somebody give him a nudge? I've been waiting for PM replies for weeks, and I want some honest answers so I know where I stand ASAP.

This site is really testing my patience - I'm offering a pretty awesome app, with a much better and faster way to navigate the site from iOS. I've done nearly all of the work already under the misleading impression the site was behind it. Now all I want to know is what's going on. This is extremely unprofessional. Doc Q or somebody, please lend a hand.

Is there a MacRumors Forums App?

Hi,

Like the title says, is there an App that lets me read through the MacRumors forums in an iPhone style list/interface. I've found a few that are generic forum readers but none seems to include MacRumors.

Believe me I've done google searches and searches here but when you search for iPhone, App or Forums you get forums that specialise in iPhone Apps!

There have been some unofficial ones, which where removed. Arn says there will someday be a free one.

It would be cool if there was an app and it let you upload pics from the phone.

Just in case you did not know, there is a mobile version that is pretty nice. Could use some added features.

https://forums.macrumors.com/wap/index.php

I then select Forums and then find the forum and set a bookmark.

You can login and set some preferences but the one I feel they need the most is to set the Post Order: DESC sequence preference. Most of the time I want to see the new posts first not last as is the default.

strange you say this lol

yesterday night, i was browsing the app store, and found a macrumors app, and it said "on the app store for 1 day only"

just looked and its gone, cost 59p (UK Store)

im guessing it was an unofficial app?
