That's the MacRumors app I've been working on recently. If arn or somebody else from MacRumors is interested, send me an email.

I decided to make my MacRumors iPhone app open-source. I GPL'd it over at SourceForge. Those of you with an Apple Developer License can download the Xcode project and see for themselves. The project is still in its early stages: for example, the code contains the most blatant and obvious memory management errors imaginable. I'm going to fix those errors soon. Please remember that the project is licensed under the GPL and that we're a community, so if you use and/or modify my source code, contribute it back! :D

Don't hold your breath for a MacRumors iPhone app. It won't make any money so it is not of highest priority.

MacRumors app probably has the most money making potential... but since I actually don't have the same greedy view the world like you, it hasn't happened yet.

But, it will.

well then what is your view? It certainly doesn't seem to be caring about your viewers and subscribers. We have been begging for a MR app since the creation of the app store. Saladinos (and I'm sure others) have been making MR apps and attempting to contact you, but apparently their requests have fallen on deaf ears. You are aggrivating the devs who are trying to help you by carelessness and ambivalance. It would be great to hear something from you, anything. If you are working on your own version, if you support one particular dev team, if you would give devs the tools and support they need to submit their apps to u for approval, or even if you don't want an app at all. You are leaving the devs and consumers in the dark with your wishy washy intentions.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but I know Saladino's has been going through a lot of effort creating a MR app that apparently you appeared to support initially but now you have refused to respond to him in any way... You saw what a success appshopper is, now lets step it it with your more popular site...

Where is the evidence that caring = making an iDevice app? That's just ridiculous.

We have been begging for a MR app since the creation of the app store.

And I've been wanting a pet siberian tiger since age 4. My parents just didn't care about me enough to get me one :(

It's arn's brand and arn's business. Saladinos and others, while they have been doing what's probably commendable work, really have no reason to get frustrated as they undertook the project on their own initiative.

So, there will be an official MacRumors app. I'll admit I was a little lukewarm about it at the beginning, but an on board with it. I'd like it to be more useful than an RSS reader. Frankly, there are no existing site apps that I'd rather use their app then just launch mobile safari. If you have any that you feel are that good, then let me know... I'm still on the look out.

As for all the other projects. I appreciate the effort, but here are our conditions for any "MacRumors" branded app:

- We have to own it 100%
- We want to give input on it during development, not just accept whatever someone comes up with, and say "that's good enough"

I've been very busy in the past with other projects, so it's not been in active development which is why I've been slow to respond to developer inquiries. We've hired professional developers for the task so that's where how we're going to proceed. If you have any particular suggestions for an app, especially ones that go beyond the expected News reading / forum commenting functionality, I'd love to hear them (arn@normalkid.com).

Thanks for the input Arn! Finally something official, no more guessing. I and I think most of the others would appreciate if you could keep us updated

it is going to take a lot of work for the dev to keep strict guidelines to Arns specifications. i agree 100% that everything should remain the property of MR.

No caring = responding to your subscribers. wether in the affirmative or negative. Before now we have only had vauge references that an app may be coming out

It's not quite the same as a parent child relationship... It is a business. We are the customers. To run a good business you should try to keep your customers happy. Otherwise they leave. That's why engadget is now my "go to" app while I'm on my iPhone. I wouldn't even use MR at all, until I found out about the mobile site which is.. bareable.

My Salandinos comment was more because (from my impression) arn had led salandinos on that he supported the app, but then as salandinos was drawing to the conclusion suddenly arn ignored him entirely, thus wasting countless hours. Now, I don't know how exactly everything went down, but that was my impression.

This is all great to hear arn. Thank you so much. I admire your high hopes for a MR app, and I hope that when it is finally released it was all worth the wait :)

I'd accept these conditions.

Ummm... I had to burst your bubble but he already hired a prof dev team.

I agree. Wether you update us on your twitter feed or have one of your devs check in and give us updates and ask for suggestions (like how salandinos has been doing). It would be nice to see the progress or know how things are going.

Thanks.
