[Merged] iPhone 5 / 2011 iPhone speculation thread

This is my fear. I'm definitely not buying the ip4 for many reasons, but probably the number one reason is that it's so aesthetically ugly and chunky. Unfortunately the ip5 will probably be a refresh of the ip4 so it seems we are stuck with this design until maybe the ip6.

If the iPhone 4 is chunky I'd hate to know how you feel about the size of previous models...

Amazing a new one comes out and this guy is already wanting the next model. Can please some people. And my iPhone has no problems. Well there is one problem it won't seem to print money so maybe I should take it back and wait........

As a long time Apple customer, iPhone & MacBook Pro user, I trusted Apple and bought the iPhone 4... BIG Mistake!

You read like a "Seminar Caller" on the radio. Not sure what your game is, though, or how you plan on winning. At any rate love my iP4. It would not even hit in my Top 25 Electronic Buying Mistakes. I've owned far, far, worse phones to know the difference. The iP4 is sometimes quirky, like your uncle Ned, but nonetheless lovable. If you find yours annoying though then just return it. Easy enough.

It's chunky looking and feeling. I know it's thinner by measurement, but it just feels chunky and not sleek like the 3gs. That's to me at least, I know most of you love it, but it just doesn't feel good for me.

Or be like me and buy the iPhone 4 and then buy the iPhone 5. ;)

yea really. AND, IF (IF) Verizon rumors are true AT&T will continue to break their own rules to keep iPhone customers "happy" (not cancelling service, funny how happy is relative in this situation)

What makes you think iPhone 5 won't have its own set of problems, considering it'll be a Rev A all over again?
Just an educated guess based on past Apple practices, the next iPhone is likely to be an improved version of iPhone 4. Knowing that despite their denial, Apple is not enjoying the negative press and user reaction. So I believe there's a good chance that the phone performance will be improved on the next model. As far as other issues, I did not say it would be trouble free.

What I've marveled at over the last few years, is all the AT&T bashing by the Apple fanboys. I have carried two AT&T smartphones for the last few years. First is my work issued BlackBerry, second my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and now 4th generation iPhones. The BlackBerrys have always delivered excellent phone performance. So that proves the merits of the network. iPhones on the other hand only became decent with the intro of the 3Gs.

No game, therefore there is no win or lose. I'm simply doing what you are, posting on a public forum.

I have no reason to return the iPhone since I don't rely on it as a phone. As I stated in an earlier post I like everything else it does, already had the line of service, so it's more about making a statement regarding the phone performance. If everyone stayed silent, Apple wouldn't benefit from customer feedback. Unlike the resident zealots I'm not all worked up over it. I always have a few new smartphones to use. As an enthusiast, that's what I do.

Returning it is not an option as I use a MacBook Pro & iPhone combo for all my content such as calendar, contacts, music, videos, and photos all residing in the Apple ecosystem via iTunes.

Just curious: why can't you return your iphone4, get your upgrade eligibility restored, and buy an iphone 3GS on ebay or Craigslist to use until either the iphone4 is fixed or the iphone5 comes out? Doesn't the 3GS with iOS4 work with your MacBookPro for all that stuff?

I think we can all agree that the 3GS was what the 3G was supposed to be. It was a superior implementation with most of the bugs worked out. I agree that iPhone "4s" will offer the same advantages.

Unless Apple takes the drastic step of completely overhauling the 4's design, which is unlikely but not impossible, I will also hold out for the next generation.

The reason why I think it's remotely possible they might change the design is that market dynamics are now producing stellar sales results, but as the word spreads, really slowly, among iPhone owners and potential new buyers that the phone aspect really underperforms, sales will start to fall precipitously.

And that is the only thing that might change Jobs' mind, a dismal performance of Apple's cash cow.

I know what you mean. The 3G/3GS also photographs better as it looks much thinner in pictures (the curved back just blends into the background). Maybe they didn't shoot an iPhone 4 commercial for this reason as it doesn't photograph too well.

However, it has a MUCH better build quality compared to the plasticky, cheaply constructed 3G/3GS. While I miss how the curved back felt in my hand and pocket, I much prefer the iPhone 4 build quality.

...and stick with my Blackberry Tour? The same Blackberry Tour where I'm on my 3rd battery pull of the day? And the trackball is acting schizophrenic? And I have to go through 329842749327 menus to get to something? With the ****** browser where I'd rather wait and get on a computer before even attempting to do a simple google search?

Yeah, no thanks. As soon as I get this e-mail to pick up my iPhone 4, I'm all over it.

I think I'm easy to please. :D I'm sitting here looking at my 3gs and I don't find the build quality cheap at all, at least compared to other smartphones on the market, it's not particularly better or worse built at least to how if looks and feels to me, there is no flex, no creakiness, no loose parts or flimsy parts, it survives being thrown in my pockets, mounting on a motorcycle (yeah seriously), and very intense gym workouts. I have a feeling that the ip4 would not fare as well under those extreme situations as my 3gs which doesn't have a single scratch on it after a year of use.

Also after holding the ip4 and 3gs in both hands I can't notice a difference in build quality. Maybe the ip4 feels more sturdy because it has that box design with the hard edges and straight back.

I know it's too early but....iPhone 5?

After seeing the iPhone 4 last month,it had almost every feature that we have been waiting for, multitasking,LED flash, video calling, complete redesign, etc.

So my question is:What do you think Apple will add to the next iPhone to make us want to upgrade? (besides Flash and Verizon) Apple needs to add something new because a speed bump, more memory, and more megapixels would make the majority of us not even bother to upgrade.

I would say the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 4G and introduce 4G networking.

Then we'd have the iPhone 6, which would be the iPhone 4GS.

I honestly can see it going that way.

It is early but i'm sure apple is working on if not has already designed the iPhone 5. I'm not sure what else i would like to see in it but odds are it will support LTE.

Probarly have the 32 GB as entry level with it maxing out at 64.
Maybe a bigger screen but i like it the size it is though.
Longer battery life
Higher Res front facing cam
Maybe 2 Speakers instead of the one it currently has.

I hope it keeps the currently body type though but odds are it wont and i'm just comparing this based on how the 2G and 3G body style were very different from another.

Actually, forget iPhone 5, lets get it in iOS4.1

Probably move the antenna to the opposite side. :D

Other than that, I can't think of anything the iPhone needs in terms of hardware. All my complaints have to do with iOS. Cool, new notification system would be great.

maybe 4G network support, better battery life, and faster. apple seems to be doing a major update, followed by a revision, followed by another major update. like iphone 3G > 3GS > 4 > im thinking next will be iPhone 4S/G.
