iPhone 5 predictions?

Anyone have any iPhone 5 predictions for next year? With the iPhone4 being a big leap from the previous models, I'm wondering how much more can be done? I'm thinking 1080p video, 8 megapixels, 64 gigs, multiple colors, waterproof? smash proof? Any other ideas out there?

64GB. I really can't think of anything the new iPhone is lacking, but I'm sure next year Apple will be playing catch up, as the competition will make something incredible. I don't know what, but it will happen.

ok... so first off... LOL, i freakin' love that someone started this already

I think 4G, better camera on the back and MAYBE the front... 64 gig, faster processor, 1 gb ram... obviously another new version of the OS (but there's a good chance there won't be too many big changes... maybe just increases efficiency, which would increase the battery life...)

anywho... whatever the upgrade brings I hope I will be in the country to pick one up on launch day next year... i really wanna experience the apple launch day hype :p

Why not! I'm going to go off of past hardware here (minor revision, major revision, aka tick/tock), as well as armchair guesstimation.

I feel that much like 3G -> 3GS, the iPhone 5 will keep the same external casing, with perhaps minor adjustments (hopefully they'll hide the seams better!). I don't foresee LTE/4G until the iPhone 6. Othewise, as for internal specs, my guesses are as follows:
- A5 Processor: Better CPU/GPU, same 512MB of RAM. Possibly multicore, Cortex A9 based.
- 64GB. With both 64 and 128GB NAND chips, this is a no-brainer. We may see 128GB iPods and iPads, but not in the iPhone. You'll need the storage for...
- 1080p video recording. The hardware supports it, but it's likely disabled for quality/storage concerns. This may also be accompanied by a dock connector-to-HDMI accessory adapter, we'll see.
- FM / HD radio. The Broadcom chip in there now supports FM radio (as did the one in the 3GS), and Apple recently filed a patent on HD radio for iPods/iPhones.
- AMOLED? Steve said that IPS screens are better than OLED "at the moment". Samsung is ramping up capacity and the price is continuing to fall, and they're building another assembly plant for the screens. Perhaps next year it'll be feasible. Of course, OLED means...
- Even better battery life. Probably not by much, though.
- A better front-facing camera. Probably not 5MP, but certainly better than VGA.
- I believe the rear camera will stay the same, but perhaps with a brighter/more neutral LED flash.

- EDIT: Turn by turn GPS in iOS 5, or perhaps this September with 4.1. They DID buy a map company recently, after all.

That's all I've got.

I think they will bring the 4G feature out for the next one... one of the reasons I think they didn't include it in this one is so that ppl have more reasons to upgrade next year...

also... you (and I in my other post) forgot to mention that they would introduce this new feature that they will invent some time this year that will let you use the flash as a flash light :p

and now that i've got the compulsory making fun of the way steve introduced video chat out of the way, i will let you know that I love how he introduced it and think that although it might not be all that successful... it will be much more successful that other attempts at video chat if only for the better advertising

iPhone 4 seems capable of a 10-year lifespan like the PlayStation family if you want it to be. Nomore 1-2 year cycles. But since the cell phone market is fickle and needs to keep people interested in contracts, technology keeps evolving.

If the Mayans are not correct about any apocalypse, I will likely get a new iPhone in 2015. This version is perfectly engineered to stand the test of time. My Sony PSP is already 5-years old, and I still use it. Just hitting its stride in the software. Sony's forward thinking for the longer term. Even the consoles are lasting longer. So I look forward on getting another iPhone in five years, right before Marty McFly saves his kids from going to jail.

Outside of resolution, this phone is going to get VERY long in the tooth in about 5-6 months time... I hope Apple isn't greedy enough to go an entire year again without updating... Realistically we should see a 4.5 update with 64GB of storage and potentially a better (1.3 MP) front facing camera.

Samsung just came out with 128 GB chips suitable for the iPhone about a month ago, I would hope that iPhone 5 will have 128 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM and 1080P recording...

Once again, the iPhone 4 is an incredible design but it's long product cycles mean that it should be beading edge when it's released, and outside of resolution, the iPhone 4 is hardly that...'

BTW, I am a iPhone 2G and iPhone 3GS owner, and I have the iPhone 4 on pre-order... I am far from an Android fanboy, but I call it how I see it... and I was pleased overall with the iPhone 4, but I was VERY disappointed with it only having 32GB of memory, ESPECIALLY since it can record 720P and higher resolution photos...

I think that one reason gaming consoles have longer lifespans is that their size compared to phones... because the phones are so small I think theat the hardware can be updates more quickly... and even if that is a load off BS, the market is different... they only update consoles after quite some time... but they do update phones quickly... so ppl have no choice but to update consoles after a relatively long time... if they updated consoles yearly... a lot of ppl would definitely upgrade yearly...

omg iPhone 9!

It will have 8G speed and be a piece of sheet metal. And possibly do everything for you without having to look!:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

My only prediction about the next iPhone is that people will still be nuts come release. They will still complain when they don't get their phone on the day before release. They will still complain when they are #12 on the pre-order list and the store only gets 11 phones. They will still post a million threads saying their iPhone just shipped. They will still ignore the main page and repost news anyway. Did I miss anything?

I really hate this time of the year. :p
