Who's the President of the United States in 1985?
Ronald Reagan.
Ronald Reagan!? The actor!?

Who's going to win the World Series in 2013?
1. 1.3mp Front camera instead of VGA
2. Bigger battery
3. HD graphic chip
4. Iphone HD?
[highfive]Obviously the Phillies will win. That is unless the world ends in 2012...
I thought the front cam on iPhone 4 was 2 mp and the video was vga
Anyone have any iPhone 5 predictions for next year? With the iPhone4 being a big leap from the previous models, I'm wondering how much more can be done? I'm thinking 1080p video, 8 megapixels, 64 gigs, multiple colors, waterproof? smash proof? Any other ideas out there?
Why not! I'm going to go off of past hardware here (minor revision, major revision, aka tick/tock), as well as armchair guesstimation.
I feel that much like 3G -> 3GS, the iPhone 5 will keep the same external casing, with perhaps minor adjustments (hopefully they'll hide the seams better!). I don't foresee LTE/4G until the iPhone 6. Othewise, as for internal specs, my guesses are as follows:
- A5 Processor: Better CPU/GPU, same 512MB of RAM. Possibly multicore, Cortex A9 based.
- 64GB. With both 64 and 128GB NAND chips, this is a no-brainer. We may see 128GB iPods and iPads, but not in the iPhone. You'll need the storage for...
- 1080p video recording. The hardware supports it, but it's likely disabled for quality/storage concerns. This may also be accompanied by a dock connector-to-HDMI accessory adapter, we'll see.
- FM / HD radio. The Broadcom chip in there now supports FM radio (as did the one in the 3GS), and Apple recently filed a patent on HD radio for iPods/iPhones.
- AMOLED? Steve said that IPS screens are better than OLED "at the moment". Samsung is ramping up capacity and the price is continuing to fall, and they're building another assembly plant for the screens. Perhaps next year it'll be feasible. Of course, OLED means...
- Even better battery life. Probably not by much, though.
- A better front-facing camera. Probably not 5MP, but certainly better than VGA.
- I believe the rear camera will stay the same, but perhaps with a brighter/more neutral LED flash.
That's all I've got.
iPhone 4 seems capable of a 10-year lifespan like the PlayStation family if you want it to be. Nomore 1-2 year cycles. But since the cell phone market is fickle and needs to keep people interested in contracts, technology keeps evolving.
If the Mayans are not correct about any apocalypse, I will likely get a new iPhone in 2015. This version is perfectly engineered to stand the test of time. My Sony PSP is already 5-years old, and I still use it. Just hitting its stride in the software. Sony's forward thinking for the longer term. Even the consoles are lasting longer. So I look forward on getting another iPhone in five years, right before Marty McFly saves his kids from going to jail.
