hummmm

No, Im dead serious... are you at all happy sitting here for months waiting for a product?
They make wonderful products, their website is great, simple, and its all nice. The main problem is their communication skills with their customers... When they release a new product that is totally new they do a great job.. like the iPhone / iPad etc, let us know well before hand.... this is a MacBook... a hardware update at most.. im sure they know the hardware specs they are intending to ship to stores maybe next week... why cant they announce their intentions...

If today they said ok we are releasing the new MacBook Pros in April, id be happy to wait, rather than them silently updating in 2 weeks. Uncertainty is never a good thing.

in the case of earlier annouces form apple, the others competing with apple would be able to better (re)plan their releasing schedules... form apple's perspective that is obviously bad.

It's a very clever policy by Apple, if you where in their position you would do it exactly the same way ... it's 'smart business' and Apple isn't going to do dumb business just to please you or any other of the 1% of their customers who sit and read these forums and obsess over updates....

But think about it, i bet you every 10 year old kid these days can tell the difference between a crap computer and a good computer, a new computer and an outdated computer. My parents who are in their 60s even know the difference and they know nothing abt computers.
Its a game of numbers... faster speeds... greater capacity and lower price... As you may know apple products are premium products and im guessing in this day and age people know exactly what they are buying and what not to buy... im sure theres a fair share that have steered clear of the current macbooks in the last 4 mths atleast.
If a complete lost person who knew squat abt computers asked you today or 2 mths ago if they should purchase a MacBook Pro, what would be your answer..
Macs = lost of $$$, people just dont rock up and buy one.

I suggest you report back here when you've taken marketing 101. Nothing kills current products like premature announcements of upgrades.

Nothing Kills products like no announcements at all... I wonder why CES happens every year...

Apple is interested in getting as many customers as possible, its not like they are releasing something that hasn't already been released by another manufacturer.

Why do you people keep saying Wednesday? Apple ALWAYS releases new stuff on Tuesdays.

Do you know how stupid the average customer is? PLENTY of people are stilling willing to buy the current MBP just because it has the Apple logo on it. The FACT is, apple will lose MORE if they announced an update, rather than silently doing one.

Apple target's the average consumer, not those of us who know better than to waste our money on outdated technology that is charged top dollar for. They are extremely successful in the majority of their marketing strategies. Prematurely announcing ANY update would be a really stupid move on behalf of Apple.

exactly for that reason it is expected that they follow a correct release strategy... if your release strategy proposal was better for them they would adopted that... they have lot of $$ to study such issues...

It makes sense, since the MBP is coming to the end of its cycle.
But what do you guys thing the changes might be? I'm hoping that processor, or at least the base HD capacity, or RAM.

The low-end MBP and the MB, with 4 GB RAM and 250GB HD are pretty much the same thing, aside from the Firewire 800 and the SD slot. The MB is actually cheaper! o_O Not to mention that the MB is coming out with a standard 250GB HD, while the MBP is only 160.... blah

I dont understand why apple have to be soo bitchy abt their macbook releases... its a laptop for god sakes.... cant they atleast let their customers know what is coming so we can make rational decisions rather than announcing it 2 mins before it comes out.

My first post might as well start with this. What will Apple do with their unsold laptops? You don't need to be too smart to realize that everyone will wait for the newer one.

The iPhone and iPad are different; prior to them there is nothing else you can get. It's not like people will stop buying the Macbook because the first Apple tablet is coming out in two weeks.

But I'm just another person highly anticipating the new Macbook Pro. My 2008 version died a few days ago. Problems with the logic board. I pretty much need to get a new Mac by next week, so hopefully the thread starter speaks the truth!

What are the odds though? Early February or late?

Very True, Lots of very Stupid Customers.... thats why they have Apple Stores where there are no competitors.... But i still standby my point that people would ask for a second opinion before forking out $1500 - $2800, and that second opinion regardless from who its from, (bar Mac Store employees) would be not to get one..

Ok, There are millions of MacBook Unibodys around, im guessing the unibody (aluminium casing) isn't going to change that dramatically, all the current users out there are bound to have faults / malfunctions and would require spare parts. Apple will have a nice stock of parts for all the recent generations of all their products.... How hard is it simply to stop manufacturing the current MacBook in excess (Only manufacture limited/expected sales amount). I reckon the delay is in R&D and manufacturing process, its friggen time consuming to make machinery that assembles computers and makes new logic boards etc... I would be pretty impressed if Apple release a new MacBook this month as it has been less than month since the Arrandale has been released. Its not as simple as assembling parts like generic computers. Thats why MacBooks are small yet powerful.. atleast when released.

I've read that March 16th is supposedly when the Mac Pros are going to be updated. Who knows if that is going to happen, or if the MBP line will be updated at the same time.

I can safely say that they WILL be updated in the next year.

I wouldn't start a business if I were you.

i hope that was humor....otherwise its the stupidest post i've seen on any forum in years...
Oh the irony, this is the 'stupidest' post I've seen in years.

I have a business and its doing quite well actually, you are what the world calls a Apple fan boy, thou shal not speak bad of Apple. Everything Apple does is perfect, nothing is above Apple... Keep ya Suggestions to yourself buddy....

Why has the stock to retail not stopped? Oh yeah, because there's no update yet.

All Frys in the bay area are sold out of the 17" MBP and the two I went to and asked when they were getting more I was told they weren't sure, probably a couple weeks.

Amazon is also out of stock on the 17".

I'd like to think that we all like Apple products, more or less. Maybe that's why we're here in this forum. By the way, "an" for vowels and "a" for consonants. Just a heads up, incase you ever make that mistake typing letters for your business that's doing quite well.

I'm glad you think your suggestions are better than Apple though. Maybe you will earn more than Steve Jobs considering the fact that you think Apple is wrong in not announcing updates a few weeks prior to release.

Isn't it obvious? They produce a certain amount of laptops, then they stop a while before they have a product to replace it. But it will not be officially announced until most of the produced units are sold. They're being efficient. Personally I think Apple does a really good job marketing. Maybe it's not ideal for the consumer but they do a great job with the iPods.

When a new iPod comes out, the specifications are not perfect. Yet the loyal fans who are likely to be awaiting the product for a long time runs out and buys it. Then there are those who like the product but think it could be improved. Say, more space. A few weeks later, Apple will release a newer version with more space capacity. That way, all the at-first "undecided" buyers will opt for the new version. They earn a lot of money this way.

If one thing comes out and it's perfect then they'll have a harder time coming up with something even better to get more buyers.

The point is, Apple is doing a great job. And I hope they release the Macbook Pro next week.

Apple is doing a great job at sucking money out of their customers, yes. But again, why would it be so bad to come out with a 'perfect' product? The better it is at launch the more people will buy it, because it will be so far ahead of any competitor's product. You can always do these bumps in storage or whatever, anyways. Bear in mind that they are not holding back on specs to give us more affordable products. Their reason is a completely different one. To suck the dumb masses dry of money.

But if they hold back specs on the product simply to bump it every year to make people buy new, it just slows down tech reaching out to us consumers. I don't want to wait until the 3rd generation of an Apple product to get something that should have been there in the first place. It's a damn waste of time.

Look at that iPad. Lots of stuff that could have gone in there now at its first revision, but its a nobrainer to see that they are holding back on things just to put it in there a year later. Again, to make people buy new.

For me it is just plain annoying. I am not stupid to buy Apple products at their first generation. I just sigh, and know that I'll have to wait 3 more years. How can this be amazing?

can't stop laughing because of this, thanks

There will NOT be a MacBook Pro update next week

I'm making an announcement here that we will NOT see a MacBook Pro update next week. This is a inside news, and please don't ask me how I get it, just wait and you will see. Seriously.

my word against yours ;)

The holy chart of apple releases also suggests that apple will update its MBP line this months ;)
