Has anyone outside of these forums even labeled the Droid X as an "iPhone killer"? The only people I see doing that garbage are diehard Apple fans who seem to have this perpetual chip on their shoulders. Android is doing well enough that they don't need to go the insecure "iPhone Killer" route anymore. Their products, for the most part, stand on their own at this point. If I weren't a very satisfied iPhone 4 owner, I'd certainly give the Droid X a look - not because it's an "iPhone killer", but because it's a good phone. Period.

I think it's become a knee-jerk reaction around here to trumpet any major new Android release as an 'iPhone Killer' even if the media and the manufacturers make no such claims. Then we can all chuckle to ourselves when it doesn't happen.

Defensive mechanism.

Everything about the droid x is better than the iphone, except for the screen dpi. But who the heck NEEDS 326 dpi. The droid x has 230 dpi and you have to look under a magnifying glass to see the pixels. The CPU/GPU in the droid x are much faster than the A4.

Have you seen how horrible the video camera is on the x? What a joke. And so what if the CPU/GPU in the droid x is faster than the A4, you still have to deal with Andriod ****** software which is a hog compared to iOS. Have fun with another Android phone with it's horrible battery life, but let me guess you'll just go buy an extra battery.

And the software. Reviews for Motorola's Android skin are scathing.

Honestly it's not that bad. The nice thing about android is that it's mostly completely customizable out of the box. My Droid X looks almost identical to my Motorola Droid which uses stock Android 2.1. My girlfriend didn't even realize I had a new phone (which is good because I told her I was going to stop buying gadgets after my iPad... oops ).

That being said, the only true iPhone killer is Apple. I thought we were past the day and age where people have to say one product will "kill" another due to the numerous choices out there, but I guess not.

I will say though I'm very impressed with the Droid X. It's going to be really hard for me to go back to a phone with a sub 4" screen because it really makes the touchscreen experience much much better. I'm looking forward to spending the next few months with it before I jump ship to another phone-- like I have for the past 8 phones I've already owned this year. Yes, I have a problem. :p

OMFG:eek:

That is so cringe worthy it's unreal!

At least Apple don't need to engineer this crap.

"I like the pinchy thing on the screen" lol!!!!!

What I noticed is that people are holding the phone anyway they want and it still works. What is cringe worthy is when you have to hold a phone the way Steve Jobs tells you to or you drop signal.

I like Apple and own a lot of their products, but I am not afraid to try products from other companies and I'm not willing to give up the Verizon network.

Motoblur has been completely redesigned for the new Droid X and is a very light skin. You can use it or disable it. Reviews have been very favorable so far compared to the old Motoblur.

And the lack of a front-facing camera. :|
I forgot about that one. Anyone who has used Facetime would understand how important a front facing camera is going to be from now on. Whenever I use Facetime I feel like I'm on Star Trek.

Apparently Droid X self destructs if you try to mod it. Looks like verizon is locking down phones again

The android community is not happy about the lock down

This is already being debunked.

Worst case scenario is that the phone will be locked down similar to the Milestone, which has been rooted but has a signed bootloader. As a guy that flashed ROMs on his Droid nearly every day, I don't really miss doing it on the X... yet.

Another POS Android phone. Give it a month and nobody will even remember. They'll say, "It's good, but no iPhone.. but the next Android phone is the iPhone killer for sure!"

Same BS every time. The only thing to kill an iPhone is a new iPhone. End of story.

Agreed. Flooding the market with one Android turd after another isn't bringing down the house.

But the touchscreen experience on ALL Andriod phones suck compared to the iPhone. I can't believe how non responsive they are and people are ok with it.

I own an iPod Touch and a Motorola Droid. I don't see any difference in touch screen responsiveness between those two devices. I think my iPad is a little better then both of them, but that is probably because it is larger and easier to hit exactly what you want.

The larger screen on the Droid X will probably make it easier to use as well.

To you, perhaps, but I've owned every version of the iPhone (with the exception of the 4) and I will say it's taken manufacturers about this long to counter Apple's multitouch/touchscreen technology. I feel my Droid X is just as responsive as my iPad is right now. Some Android phones have slightly problematic touchscreens (see HTC) but luckily for the Android user, there's lots of choice out there including the ability to choose your carrier.

Choice is always nice IMO. :)

I'll agree with this. Of all the Android phones I've tried (save the Droid X), the touchscreen experience has fallen short of the iPhone (specifically in regards to the keyboard). But the keyboard on the Droid X is one of the first (if not the first) multitouch Android keyboard that comes stock, and it is very much comparable to the iPhone. Also, the added screen space makes mistakes a rare occurrence.

So I'll say it....guess I'm glad I bought the evo

Could just be your user experience or my user experience, but both phones have their issues with touchscreen feedback. Both occasionally get hung up on something here and there (BTW that' tested on 2 different iphones, first one had to be replaced do to the stupid proximity sensor).

But the lag, from either device, isn't bad enough for me to totally write one or the other completely off. I see a lot of complaints about how the UI on android is way behind the iphone, but I don't see it at all.

In regards to the multitouch keyboard on the iphone and the Droid X, neither is as good as swype IMO. Or forget typing it out by finger...that's so 2004. :D Speech to text blows all keyboards out of the water :D

that's exactly what i thought when i saw this post. nowhere outside of these forums have i seen anyone refer to the droidx as an iphone killer. people need to learn how to be objective and appreciate a good product regardless of what company they slobber over.

Agreed. There are very few objective people on these forums (or any "fan" forum really).

Yay for us I guess? :)

So have you used all android phones? doubtful.

My Droid X is as bit precise and accurate as the iPhone, so isn't the desire and incredible. My old android phone Nexus wasn't but that was well documented.

Went to play with a Droid X at the Verizon store today. I was very VERY impressed.

The hardware is great, the performance is great, overall it's a very very good phone.

The only qualms I have about making the switch is that I might miss a few of my iPhone only apps, but I'm sure I'll find android alternatives.
